  1. Offski - checked your link where you check for outstanding recalls etc... am I right to assume if I just get the dear customer and no outstanding that is actually the case? Is it better digging with these cars or just playing ignorant? All I can say is it ticks more boxes than crosses but I am naturally wary... Cheers
  2. Was the 5/30 stuff. Will probably do an oil and filter to the 5/40 at some point plus spark plugs then see how she goes. Apologies for a little trail off topic - spark plugs people! Regards :)
  3. So someone I trust and have to stand over? I assume that skoda won't fit what you bring? Worth an ask maybe. Ah funny you mention that as that is another "yes" ticked. So really for me to be sure is have a minor service plus air filter and plugs? I am reluctant to touch the car but equally don't want the hassle of it breaking. Just a quick add on; will only previous owner know what engine it is on? As are there any that are still on original? Thanks for your help
  4. Hi thanks for that. That may all be beyond my competency! Best bet local mechanic and change regardless? Assuming they actually were changed 4k ago should they not be ok? Mpg sound about right? As for the oil I will check what I put in and how much as I keep it in the boot... this was also required in my 2tfsi Octavia! 5/40 rings a bell due to this forum but as of posting not 100%!
  5. I have purchased these Denso ho ho hoes... How do I "check" the spark plugs. I have had 3 "issues" with Jekyll and Hyde... bought in August circa 40k with a service. Within 3 weeks I had to top the oil with I imagine around 3 litres of oil. Approx a week later I had cel flashing I just carried on and it went off... held back a bit for a while but resumed to normal and light off. And 3rdly I know not to be trusted but just driving around is always around 28.8mpg seems low in my book and being the onboard comp I assume it's 10 percent off that...? Has done a kiss to 38 on more of a run. So after all that waffle - spark plugs worth doing? They seem to have been done at around 20k and skoda have ticked the box at the latest 40k service...now at 44k... any thoughts appreciated

  7. Good day. Does anybody have a wiring diagram for this or can at least point me in the direction of? I have 3 wires - a black, a brown and a lilac/green Basically my garage needs to know what wire goes in what pin and that there are 4 pins? As currently it has baffled a vag electrician and obviously the garage won't repair it until they are 100% sure on what goes where. Oh it's a 2006 tfsi with engine code BWA. All help much appreciated.
  8. Finally managed to get on the vcds - not for 85 quid plus vat I may add. That aside its been pinpointed to the code that means it's something to do with a swirl flap or runners or the map sensor (g31?) I have decided to look at the map sensor to get the correct part number and I am assuming is correct at 038906051D? However on inspection it seems the wire or harness bit is busted... Would it be best to still replace the whole sensor plus would the wiring require soldering or is there a simpler way to do this? So in essence the map sensor is not being seen by the car therefore the car is not boosting correctly is what I make sense of from what the mechanic said...
  9. Good morning. Does anybody know anywhere decent for a vcds scan in the Hertfordshire area, or reasonable distance from? Most places I've looked are £80-100(some even plus vat) - is this about right? Or excessive as my first thought? Regards
  10. Would it be the pad in its entirety making contact with the disc? Mine appear to come to like a sloping towards the centre of the disc with all the contact there. Think a brake service is in order because I don't have a clue what I'm looking at and whether it's normal or not.
  11. I thought rear more likely, but wasn't sure. So am I correct in thinking, that with the car sat on the drive with no handbrake on, then the front pads should not be touching the discs at all? Or is there some contact to an extent at all times?
  12. I was having a little visual of the wheels whilst parked up today. Which brake pads should be "on" (if any) when the hand brake is on? Would I be able to visually check that the brakes were stuck on, or is it purely excessive heat that will pinpoint this problem? I am not entirely sure what I was looking for; just something that would seem odd or differences on the same axles...
  13. Would a build up similar to the front wheels, The sort of brake dust you get also be a sign of this seized on brake problem ? Have never noticed on the rear wheels of cars before... The brakes(if changed) go back to the service I have documented, so will have been like this well almost a year now :-/
  14. Well I took it out to find it had lines of I assume glue down the length of the filter, holding it rigid. I can only assume this to be to make it easier to keep in place , but I would assume keeping the paper very tightly packed would make it restrictive? I have a replacement on order now I know it's correct dimensions.
