  3. That is a great help, great link thanks. Apologies but it still confuses me, it shows 12 options for the front shock, and one part number for the rear, but when I look in to the aftermarket rear options, there are quite a few from each brand. I recently put four Sachs dampers on my other Skoda, very happy with them. How do I confirm which of the many Sachs part numbers will give a suitable set of new front and rear shocks for my 4x4?

  5. May not be connected, but changing the fuel filter on my 1.9tdi appears to have solved a similar issue.
  6. Lad was very helpful, insisted it is not the map, he has had it checked and double checked. Suggests that it is either a boost leak or a waste gate actuator problem, and that the way forward is to put it on a dyno and do a smoke test. I suspect that will also include the vcds check that dara85 suggests to help find the fault, saving me the hassle of doing another turbo log. So that's the way I'm probably going to go, just need to find a good place to get such a job done.
  7. As per title, this question is bugging me and I am requesting the help of a wider and far more knowledgeable audience. Of all the likely causes of an overboost problem (as per attached) which would not show as a fault on VCDS? Thanks.
  8. Ideal many thanks. I was in a bit of a quandary, because without any fault codes I wasn't sure what on the car could be responsible. The car is going in for a wee bit of work soon so I will suggest the points you raised re possible causes of overboost. As far as I am aware, the car has never had a replacement turbo. It was bought from a main dealer with an extensive and detailed history and loads of receipts. I plan to speak to Shark again soon, this was my last punt at asking the forum for help with understanding more about the overboost and its causes. The Shark lad has offered to put the map back on for nowt, so I could return it to normal and take the logs again, just to eliminate the map as the cause. Will provide an update if and when it gets resolved.
  9. Thankyou very much for the replies. The map is a Shark stage 1 installed by a highly regarded company/person. I have had the car just over 2 years and had the remap done a year ago. Unfortunately I have only had the one set of logs taken some time after the remap, and since the car has not felt any different during the whole time of ownership I cannot say that it was there or not before the remap. However, my gut feeling is it was, because I drove other similar engined cars, and this one felt different, a little flat, difficult to explain. The only other thing it does, is a slight 1 or 2 second stutter during light acceleration in 3rd gear, but that seems to have almost disappeared following the replacement of a clogged looking fuel filter, and the blanking off of the egr (egr previously switched off with the remap). It has never gone in to limp mode, and it has never thrown a fault code in several VCDS checks, other than a glow plug on its last check. The garage (summarised) are suggesting that there is nothing obviously wrong with the car and no fault codes, and that what can happen is a generic map is fitted to a vehicle, which may not suit that vehicle, and the best way of mapping is a custom job of some sort. I have only spoken to Shark man once, saying that I didn't think it had done anything, his response was "it's a good map". Local vag lads can if I wish flash the ECU, that would return it to standard I think?? then I could do the turbo log again. But I wanted some advice before doing so, because I need to speak to Shark lad again and it would mean dumping a 200 pound map.
  10. A little help please. I previously posted a question whether it was possible to adjust via VCDS the beam height of the front xenon headlights on my 05 octavia (I had to replace the front levelling module when the arm broke-after which it seemed low). Consensus was that it could be done by VCDS. Tried to do so and failed. Can anyone advise how to do it or offer a step by step guide of sorts?? Many thanks.
  11. Please can I have an opinion on the following. To those who have helped with previous related posts, thankyou. I have hopefully attached the turbo log from my 06 1.9 tdi bxe 4x4. It got a stage one remap a year ago. I am advised that the overboost on the turbo log is excessive and the car should be looked at for a possible cause. I have taken it to a vag specialist who can find nothing wrong with the car other than a slightly noisy turbo, and state that the overboost will be down to the remap. I do not feel that the remap changed the car much. Is the overboost an issue with the car or is it down to the remap?? If it is an issue with the car what should I be considering?? If it is down to the remap, is it just an unsuitable map?? Does anyone have a turbo log from a standard car, and a remapped car for comparison?? Many thanks.
  12. Okay, had the car looked at. Good news is the droning was the propshaft damper needing replaced, that's on the way. Not so good, been told it appears to drive fine. No fault codes. Pulls okay. Only thing is turbo was noticeably noisy, bit of a wailing siren type noise. Been told it will get noisier and will eventually need replaced, but could soldier on for ages. Showed the graph with the overboost, been told this is probably due to the stage 1 remap that was done, and therefore the issue is with the map. I don't really understand that. If the map changes the turbo boost in some way, and there is a bit of overboost, should I be getting better performance, more power etc??? Bit confused really, not sure what to do next. Plan to speak to the lad who did the remap.
  13. car is 06, 91k miles, going to try another turbo log to see if its changed, but most likely I will book it in to someone knowledgeable to work through all the possible causes and take it from there, thanks.
  14. Thanks for the link, I intend to keep the car awhile, I was advised Monroe replacement items had been a bit patchy quality wise recently, and figured the sachs items would be better. I think the Bilsteins would be excellent but thought they would be more expensive, but I may have found a pair for 72 quid which would be ideal. Will call and check they are the correct items, and if that falls through try and get the correct sachs items, or go for the KYB. thanks for the advice.
  15. Ok the search engine didn't seem to like that part number but played around with it, could it end GP rather than GB?? using that came up with Munroe items at about 34 each, and KYB at 33 each. Have been advised Sachs items are better, but not sure if 310950 or 311014 are the correct item numbers?? anyone able to advise??
  16. Bit of help please. I need to get new rear shockers for my 05 octavia. It has the sports suspension factory option, which means specific springs, and the 17 inch wheels. Does it also have different dampers?? If so can anyone assist with the part numbers/specs or suitable quality replacement items please. I managed to get the correct springs recently but am getting brain ache trying to get the right dampers. Thanks.
  17. Well, that was interesting. New fuel filter went in today, asked the garage if they thought the old one had done 35k or 91k miles. The response: it looks like it has done a million miles. I was shown it, it was full of oil, really choked. Not sure now if the service book is inaccurate and its a 91k filter, or there is an oil in fuel problem, leaking injector?? Going to run it for a month and check the filter again. Finally got the blanking plate fitted in the egr valve as well, although not sure its necessary now, the egr delete has already been done. Is there any point putting one in if its no longer operating?? It still seems to drive pretty much the same after the above. Will maybe try and get some checks done to see if there is an issue with turbo or n75 or something else.

This is probably unconnected, but the car has also an annoying loud drone at around 2300 to 2500 revs, which I thought was an exhaust issue, but it's been looked at twice now and nothing obvious wrong with exhaust, was planning a bit more work on car to try and sort it, and maybe put a request on here for advice about it, because i had read threads about a possible drive shaft issue on some cars, but just wondered if the over boosting was connected because it's in that rev range??
  19. Thanks for that, according to service book the fuel filter got done July 2012 at 56k, now done 91k. That was before I bought it, and if that is not correct in the service book then it has never had one. When the lap top was on it, the injector readings appeared to be very good and even across all four, I could start by getting the fuel filter changed just in case then take it to a specialist to work out why it is over boosting.

I am pretty confident that it is the original turbo, I believe it has been like this since I bought it two years ago, forgive my ignorance, I take it the graph shows initial under boost, followed by over boost. Would the over boost probably cause the slight stutter as it backs off?? May it also explain why the re map had little effect?? I am surprised that nothing came up when the re map was done but i can discuss that with the lad that did it. What would you suggest is at fault and where should I go from here?? It runs okay, but I would prefer it to run better if possible!! Many thanks for your help

  22. It had the cambelt done when bought from main dealer 2 years ago. Is checking the torsion value an easy job? My brother plugged in his lap top and had turbo numbers checked just after I bought it, initially he thought there was an initial lack of boost followed by a sudden bug surge, but then said he had been comparing numbers with the wrong engine code, and it was within parameters. Can easy get it done again. It was a Shark stage 1, I don't think the remap was the issue, I think there is something not quite right with the car so it didn't benefit from the chip. I am assuming turbo. Will probably try Mr Muscle first.
