  1. Thanks softscoop . I’ll double check the engine code.
  2. Thanks WINO. Can’t get hold of the owner right now to get the code but I’ll check it thoroughly when I get to see it tomorrow. Don’t want a PD 2.0. I’ve got a Yeti 2.0 CR 170 with 415,000 miles on it so ‘nuff said. I think after doing some research that the PD was phased out in 2008 so I reckon I’ll probs be in luck. Cheers.
  3. Can you tell by the VIN ? It’s TMBFE61Z5A2065766.
  4. Thanks for reply but I was under the impression that all EA189 engined cars were up for the recall ??
  5. I’m looking to buy a 2010 2.0 140 bhp Octavia. This would have the EA189 engine. I looked up on the Skoda Emissions checker to see if has had the “fix” and it states “This vehicle is not affected, enjoy your Skoda” Does this mean it’s had the emissions fix done ? I’m confused. Anybody ? Cheers.
  6. Has anyone on this forum had any dealings with Volks Apart dismantlers recently. I have e-mailed them numerous times and phoned endlessly for weeks and cannot get a reply. Have they gone bust? Only reason I'm interested to know is they owe me £200 credit for parts. SAJNA
  7. Can't seem to locate rear shocks for my 2004 Fabia vRS. Main agent state there's none in the country and are quoting up to 3 weeks delivery and cannot find any aftermarket ones either. The original shocks currently on the car are Monroe HM265. Anyone know where I can get a pair, or even one, as my MOT expires this week???
  8. First and second gears are considerably shorter in my 07 car than in my 04 one. If it was only sixth gear different, I wouldn't bother. First is so short, you can pull away from a standstill on most occasions in second. Hate it! Don't know why they changed the boxes, the original one was brilliant, and that sixth gear is a beauty on the 04 car, purrs along at 2500rpm at 100mph+, the 07 car is revving it's nuts off at that speed!!!
  9. Am looking to replace the JNC Code gearbox in my Fabia vRS SE to the earlier "long box" Code FSM. I need to do this as the longer gearing helps my learner drivers (I'm an instructor) plus the fact that I do thousands of miles a month on the motorway and I need that "long" sixth gear. I have been quoted £1200 plus VAT for a new one, but does anyone have any idea what the JNC box would be worth so that I could claw some of that outlay back. The car it's coming out of is the Special Edition model (2007) and only has 23,000 on the clock, so virtually a brand new box for somebody??? Any ideas or estimates anybody????
  10. You have to be a driving instructor to fully appreciate the difficulty in getting a new driver to change up and down the gearbox as rapidly as you do in the newer car. As an experienced driver you will hardly notice the difference.
  11. Further to my thread "gearbox ratio nightmare", is it still possible to obtain a gearbox for Fabia vRS with the code FSM ?? This is the one with the long ratios. My 07 has the short ratios and is useless as a teaching car for learners. My previous tutor car is a Jan 04 with the longer box and is superb at the job. Total dilemma!! Any suggestions ??
  12. I need a gearbox with the code FSM. These were the pre March 04 ones. My vRS SE has got a gearbox with the code JNC. Need a new or nearly new one though as the car it's going into is an 07 reg. with 20,000 on the clock.
  13. Looks like I'm going to have to sell the Special Edition and stick with the 04 car. Apparently my only alternative is to change the gearbox which is just too much hassle. Oh well, not for the want of trying!!! Cheers for all the comments.
  14. What's the best method to stop the front leather seats squeaking in my vRS SE ? I know they don't have springs so assume it's something in the mechanism at the side where you adjust the seat back height. Can I spray something down there like WD40 or would this damage the leather??? The rear seats were squeaking but I traced that to the rear parcel shelf rubbing on the seat back and have taken care of that with some cloth tape between the two.
  15. First and second gear in the 07 car are OK for an experienced driver because we can lower and raise the clutch at will in traffic queues, but a new driver can't do this so easily, so when they lift off the gas it gives a vicious kickback and the car lurches badly and gives them a fright, In the 04 car, because the first two gears are longer, when they lift off the gas, the car just loses speed very gently before they have to drop the clutch. When I bought the 07 car I never thought it would be an issue but was staggered by the difference in the gearing when I started to teach learners in it. I know a lot of instructors use Fabia 1.9 TDi's but hardly any use the vRS, so don't know if the gearing is different in those cars???
