  1. I got a Yuasa 5yr guarantee one from my work where I get discount. You can probably guess where.
  2. I didn't check the drain tube. It detached itself when the box came out so I plugged it back on. Didn't see any blockage in there but wasn't really looking.
  3. I bought these one earlier today before work and got it off easily: http://www.screwfix.com/p/irwin-bolt-grip-nut-remover-set-5-pieces/96028?cm_sp=Search-_-SearchRec-_-Area1&_requestid=242443#_=p. Haven't got any nuts with the integral washer like that one lying around so I used my tap and die set to clean up the threads, soaked in some WD40 and reassembled with a slathering of grease. The PAS fluid was low so I topped it up. The battery needed changing so I just did that as well. for future reference the metal that supports it is bolted on. No other corrosion in the engine bay that I can see Thanks for the advice
  4. I know the battery needs changing anyway, but it just annoys me to leave the rusted nut there.
  5. My passenger side window was making a noise that tells me it needs some additional lubrication. My driver side window was working perfectly until the door slammed with window almost up (about an inch gap) and it now makes a horrible clunking noise as it starts to decent and a lesser noise when it reaches the bottom of it's travel. I am going to remove the door card on both sides. What should I be on the lookout for? I have an unrelated issue in the passenger door lock that I may try to fix at the same time. If I lock the doors with the switch on my drivers doors all doors lock and the passenger side immediately unlocks. this doesn't happen every time but about 95% of the time. If it works and I stall the engine, starting the engine immediately unlocks just that door. If I lock the door externally it never happens unless i turn the key twice and then again only that door unlocks. Is it likely this is some sort of sensor in the passenger door or a problem with master control on driver side? (No remote locking on mine)
  6. I have been having a problem with my power steering on my Y reg Fabia (only done 60K). When I bought the car a few months ago I had the power steering light come on twice with no effect and not since then until yesterday where I lost assisted steering temporarily. After the light came on I didn't notice any effect until I tried to park a few minutes later. I drove off without restarting the engine and it was working again though the light remained. I have tested my battery and it could use replacing but I decided to check fluid anyway. The battery box bolts were rust; though I got two off, the last one (top left) is seized and the head has rounded off the nut from corrosion. Without damaging the plastic I don't see how I can get at it. So a couple of questions: - Is this bodywork which supports the battery welded to the main chassis or simply bolted in place? - (Where) can I get a battery box replacement at not too great a cost? - Any tips for getting at it without damaging the casing? (vise grips are slipping and not a lot of space to cut into nut)
  7. Skoda dealer should also be able to tell you the paint code from the reg plate if you phone them
  8. Picked up a MK1 Fabia last tuesday. It's a Y reg (2001), only done 60K. Looks brand new inside, not bad on the outside either. Cleared up headlight clouding with some rubbing compound. Runs great except for the engine warning light that popped up yesterday. I haven't had a chance to service it yet but the petrol was very low when I bought it and after topping up at Tescos I think I just need to change the fuel filter and put some Cataclean through it. Shell or BP only from now on. Got a friend with an ODB tool to check it later tonight so I'll post in the appropriate forum section if that doesn't help. This is my first car. Passed my test about a year and a half ago, insurance would have been about 2,500. Much more reasonable 860 now with no no claims bonus. From South Croydon area, I see a fair few fabias on the road on the way to work (old and new). Maybe one of you guys. Been working at a parts store last couple years so long overdue for me to have my own wheels. Haven't got any pictures for you, will post when I've serviced and given it a clean :-)
  9. You can get the paint from Halfords. If they don't have it on the shelf they mix it in a spray or pot. They just need that code from under the boot carpet by the wheel
