  1. I checked with a reader, basic one but it does have VW on the menu, and the RAC guy checked, and there were no engine codes I also checked when the engine light first came on, no engine codes then either I thought the engine light was for exhaust gas recirculation, although I'm obviously mistaken! Yes, cam belt jumping was my thought, and yes it'll be uneconomic to fix
  2. Hi all, Our 2.0 FSI Petrol (as per my sig) suddenly stopped while driving tonight. The yellow engine light has been on for a while, but no noticeable loss of power until tonight of course! Luckily it was only a mile from home as we had to wait 4 1/2 hours for the RAC's contractor to turn up He thought what I did initially: a broken cambelt, at it's spinning fast on the starter with no compression But I'd already taken the inspection cover off, and the cambelt is still there and looks intact, and everything's turning as expected He was very puzzled, but couldn't recover it, so we have another 5 or so hours to wait for the recovery! Any ideas? Thanks Iain
  3. Also check the air temp on the dashboard, ours says -20 or something most of the time and the AC doesn't work Occasionally it says the correct temp, and the AC works, next project is hunt down the dirty connection on the sensor!
  4. Just replaced the regulator in the driver's door as it ate the cable I discovered rivnuts, which as the name implies are nuts you can rivet in! I got all the bits from eBay, here's the UK sellers I used, all very good! Sealey Rivnut tool + 40 rivnuts, I used all the M4 ones https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/toolsbypostshop M4 Cap Bolts, get the 10mm length, I got 8mm which were just long enough https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/gwr-fasteners Window Regulator, even though the picture showed the old style with open cables, this had shrouded cables which looks to be a better design https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/carspares-direct The rivnuts were really easy, and it all fitted perfectly apart from me dropping the plastic securing dowels!
  5. The 2.0FSI has been good for six years, it's now 16 years old/101,000 miles Had the belts done when we got it, doesn't use oil, still goes very well!
  6. Looks like the clutch master cylinder has gone on our 55 Octavia Estate Mk2 Ambiente 2.0 FSI, pedal to the floor, and signs of leaking in the engine bay Any clever substitutions for the tool to get the actuator clip off the clutch pedal? Otherwise I'll tape a couple of small bolts to a big pliers thing I've got... Also, found plenty of master cylinders online, but can't see the replacement seals/o rings anywhere? Thanks!
