The EGR on these engines (and most CR diesels from this era) are nutorious for clogging up and breaking down
-
So about a month ago I treated myself to a gorgeous yellow Octavia VRS TDI which I absolutely adore, now I'm looking to remap and do the EGR delete, and so the million pound question (which I'm sure has been asked numerous times for this type of engine) How do you do the delete, and is it relatively easy to do? My only issue is that I have the pipe, but no blanking plate so I'm wondering being a common rail it's got the cooler attached to it, there's no need for a blanking plate but I could be wrong?

I did think this again as I've had a similar problem on my previous Octavia, but it's a "new" alternator. I'm also swinging towards the way of the tensioner too.
-
So last month, my car completely packed up, dials stopped ran rough, everything electrical went. Long story short the problem turned out to be the wiring loom between the alternator and the battery which fried the alternator, battery and fuse box. However, since doing that, the battery light comes on after start, blip the throttle and it flags the alternator warning on the dash (L&K spec) an goes out. Any suggestions? Have I missed a step?

worth checking the alternator pulley as they're common things to go -
yeah, the sudden urge to crack out NFSU2 again :P I only thought the PS2 as its the easiest one to do unlike a PS3

So I've been toying with this Idea since I fitted my Pioneer Double Din Stereo, and I decided that since I've got quite a bit of free time on my hands I was going to go ahead and give it a whirl, has anyone tried doing this and with what success, also whats the best way to do it too?

Double din stereo not working (continued)

Found the cause, ended up having to rewire the stereo to a ignition switch feed from the rear window heater, works a treat now -

Ignition is a good shout, how easy is it to get out on one of these? -
Still getting no life from the double din stereo, checked all the relevant fuses and all ok, are there any other known faults at all? Bare in mind with the factory stereo, i had to turn on and off manually.
-
Had a look at the diagram, we tried most of the ways already with no result, one thing I didn't check was the ciggarette fuse as I've had one go in the past and it took out the stereo along with it.
-
Yeah, it looks like its just sheared off from the end of the damper
-
So another fault has seem to appear on my 1U, a rather loud rumbling noise, i opened up the bonnet and looked down and saw what i think it is, the tensioner has completely ripped itself off the mounting from the engine, not too sure how severe this is.

Mk1 owners, where do you draw the line with DIY maintenance?
Quiche replied to Evil's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Afraid not, the mk1 VRS down here are starting to get rare, and the ones left are being abused :'( -

I work at a Skoda dealer, so I guess theres no line for me :P -
Just bought a double din Pioneer stereo to go into my 2003 Octavia elegance, all fitted fine until I tried to turn it on, got no power going to it , checked the fuses, checked the voltage on the standard ISO, and found on pin 4, the voltage doesn't come up to 12v when the ignition is turned on. The standard radio works fine, but does have to be turned on and off manually, but I tried turning on the double din stereo, and another aftermarket pioneer stereo with no result. Are there any other clues or steps that I may have missed out as I know it is a slight issue with some models?

Hi Guys. My names Mischa, I'm 20 years old and living in Partridge Green, West Sussex, I'm currently on an apprenticeship with Skoda and I drive a 2014 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo diesel estate. Found this forum through a comment I saw on Car Throttle and I figured that it looked like a good place to join people. Below is a picture of my car who I named Fiona :P I hope to see good things on here, as well as learn all sorts of tricks and tips mechanically.
