  1. my airbag warning was traced to this wire. it was repaired and codes cleared, and hasnt been an issue since.
  2. Just had mine done by my trusted independent. £750. thats a lot of money but its 5 hours labour and genuine skoda egr vave (285 plus vat) and gasket/ fittings set.
  3. goodyear efficient grips for me. the only brand of tyre ive been so impressed with that ive bought them again without considering other makes.
  4. there may well be somebody closer too you, but ive used https://cartronix.co.uk/ and can highly recommend them. they"ll replace all the bulbs, after all they"re all the same age and now as likely to fail. if you can get there, the repair is while you wait, otherwise you can courier. i made a day out of it. its easy to take cluster out yourself, saves money too! and they give a lifetime warranty on the repairs. steve.
  5. i had exactly the same, and sure enough it was the wiring running through the door. Yellow wire chaffed through.
  6. I would say so, seeing as Skoda are issuing a Technical Bulletin to its agents. (It was always the case when we received similiar instructions from Ford when i was in the trade). Indeed the article admits to "insufficiently sealed connection".
  7. Depends how fussy and / or competent you are. You can scrape it back as clean and as small as possible. apply rust converter then touch up paint over the top. take your time and you may be able to flat and polish the repair into the original paint. To spray it you really need to remove the clear stone chip sheet then paint and blend it keeping the repair as low as possible. then polish it when fully hardened. Then new clear sheet.
  8. easiest to let them take care of the repairs. do, however stick to your guns if you dont like their "approved repairer". at the end of the day, its your car, not theirs. a good bodyshop wont be afraid to offer a minimum of 3 years guarantee. the bodyshop usually offer courtesy cars, but these days you have to insure them yourself. you must make it clear the other sides insurer must reimburse you.
  9. As long as you go to a decent independant garage, i would not worry. Its not in their interest to fit poor parts and have you come back complaining. They wont want you back for a warranty claim, taking up workshop time and space. They tend to buy the parts anyway from established motor factors, ECP, Allparts etc. If in doubt, ask whose parts they will use. As pointed out, there is no reason whatsoever in paying for a Skoda box containing exactly the same parts, from the exact same manufacturer, for a lot more money. Skoda buy their bits in, just the same.
  10. guess what? ive just double checked mine (the red one in the pics) and the nearside which was repaired has the folded over lip into the door shut. the offside is original and doesnt!
  11. hi, hope these are ok. basically the bottom of the film sits at the top of the textured sill coating, which means the top lines up with the bottom of the door moulding. fit them with a light spray of soapy water to allow you adjustment if necessary.
  12. Ask your self a couple of questions. Can they drop everything else they"re doing when when your existing one fails and you need it immediately? Will you be able to get to them without cancelling your plans? Will it be cheaper then? Will you still be intending to keep the car? I think the answer really is that if you can afford it now, then go for it. Why not spoil yourself if thats what you want. Why wait and put it on later for somebody else"s benefit?
  13. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=removing+octavia+cluster&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi_xrS-_c7UAhWUF8AKHfpeA8oQsAQINA&biw=1024&bih=638
  14. removals dead easy, (search for here maxidot removals, bulbs etc.) but basically lower steering wheel, prise off trims around cluster. reveals 2 torx screws to remove, then unclip cluster.(push an old cd into gap above cluster/ below dashboard. cluster will slide forward. pull it clear and release multi plug on back.
