  1. Car went into limp mode last week, flashing glow plug light. Plugged in and got codes shown below. Cleared codes and sprayed EGR cleaner plus fuel additive but not going away. I want rid of the car anyway as now doing short miles. Options: Proper fix (expensive) or blank / code out (cheaper) Car does run fine until the EGR moves position! Are there any reputable tuners in Preston for option 2? PS I've not had the emissions fix!
  2. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but wanted to thank you for your help! I ordered the parts from Lookers VW in Preston and all is good
  3. I would say it's a fair bet the Navigation has a folder system whereas the Garmin is using encryption hence the .afs extension.
  4. I have the above issue. Our Garmin PID has all the updates... and ALL the FM station logo's work on all stations EXCEPT Rock FM which is the station we listen to the most! I have a Logos.afs file rather than a folder containing the images. I have made a .png file called PI_E1_C889 with all the attributes mentioned so I know this is the correct file name and have copied it into a created Logos folder on the PID itself. Can't find any way to edit or open this Logos.afs file to see if the files are embedded in it. Odd... but one of those first-world 'problems' which I can see many hours being devoted to!
  5. Thanks for the reccomendation Mike, I met up with Adam this evening and all is good in the world again! What a thoroughly good bloke he is too. It took a little fiddling but we go there after a couple of tries. VCDS looks interesting but best kept out of my hands... I would be dangerous!
  6. Thanks for the swift responses. I have no VCDS experience but am fairly tech savvy. As it's non urgent I am not overly worried but do want to get it correctly coded if possible, just because... Maybe the local dealers (Simpsons) will put it right if I get them to make my cheating EA189 diesel honest for a change! I really wanted to set dipped beam as DRL's but don't think this is possible without also switching on the rears. I'm keeping the Carista app though as it might come in handy one day for clearing a code prior to MOT ;-)
  7. They are standing. I cleared all faults and rescanned later and they were still present. I have a copy of the full log if it helps... That was fast BTW!
  8. As per title I scanned the Octy today. The following fault codes came up: Telephone: 9458195 CAN network gateway: 01044 - Control Module Incorrectly Coded All the important stuff came back fine. I installed a 9w7 Bluetooth module when I first got the car and my inexperienced hunch points to this. The Bolero fitted might have been put in by the previous owner as I have the manual for the Swing instead. I live in Bamber Bridge and would be very grateful for any VCDS assistance that could be offered. At least I can unlock all doors on first press and have finally turned the annoying beebs off at last! Thanks in advance Briskodians!
  9. Thanks to all for the advice. I fitted the OEM kit and it works flawlessly without coding. Apart from the stupid "mobile box" speed dial which I believe is a "feature..." Now to work out replacing the 15" wheels with something more masculine!
  10. Hi Eddie, I've just fitted a 9w7 bluetooth module to my Bolero but have no jumbo box or MDI. Do you know what else I would need to fit this as a factory look install? (2011 1.6 TDi SE) I presume this is added somewhere on the quadlocks? Interested!
  11. Many thanks for the confirmation of my thinking on option 1. I'm new to VAG cars (1st car was an MG Metro in '97 + lots of Fords thereafter) so I've had a steep learning curve! I only want the streaming so I can listen to saved recordings on the TuneIn app as I'm more than happy with the SD Card function. I think I'll order it tomorrow after getting permission from the other half... and picking up a T20 Torx driver as my socket set wont get to the screws holding the Bolero in place. I have confirmed the complete lack of any factory fitted mic, loom etc already. Thanks again @adamal
  12. Evening all, Having had my Octavia for 3 weeks now I have to say I'm mightily impressed. I want to install a "factory style" bluetooth kit to go with the Bolero unit. I have no Mic in the lights so need to fit that too. I'm torn between the following: 1: Used 9w7 module inc. loom and Mic from fleabay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252033054784?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Am I correct in thinking this will need coding with VAGCOM (hopefully by a helpful Briskodian - I'm in Bamber Bridge, Preston) and will also give me streaming? 2: FISCON "Basic Plus" kit as I have no MFSW or Maxidot. I am confident in fitting this myself but I understand streaming only works through front speakers - Is this correct? It is the more expensive option however (@£250.) This is my first thread after introducing myself so please be gentle! Many thanks in anticipation of some replies. Chris.
  13. I was a member of what started out as the Mondeo Enthusiasts Group. Same username etc. Great tips saved me £££ doing things myself wherever possible. Thanks for the welcome!
  14. Hello all... I'm due to pick up a 61-Plate Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDi this week after 9 years and 9 months driving a Mondeo 1.8 Duratec Petrol. As it's now gone over halfway to the moon (without ever breaking down and meticulous maintenance I might add) I decided it was time for a change. I'm looking forward to being a part of the community, having researched things like "Maxidot" "Bolero" "VAGCOM" "FISCON" and "VCDS" over the last couple of days... you can probably tell that I'm looking to get Bluetooth integration up and running and the car has no Aux-In or USB slot as far as I can tell! I'll leave that for the correct forum (so don't worry mods - I'll not mither in here!) I'm based in Bamber Bridge, Preston and it might be handy to find someone locally who knows their way around this coding stuff if I decide to do the retrofit myself - I'm quite confident in the physical installation but the setup seems tricky to the uninitiated. Anyway looking forward to the Skoda learning curve ahead and leaving the friendly Ford bunch behind. Kind regards, Chris.
