  1. Hi everyone, Haven't posted here for years as sold me Fabia and drove a Volvo and an Alfa for a while. I recently bought a 2004 Octavia 2.0 TDi from the Crawley down location. Great car, well looked after, around 50000 miles and full 12 month warranty plus great service at the sales center. It had a know fault (I know the previous owner) where the turbo would shut down sometimes while cruising on the motor way. I told them about it and the service center took a look. Apparently they replaced the EGR. So, I drove it for a while and first motorway drive the same happened to me! It's like a small loss of power when cruising. It's most noticeable though when you then leave the motor way and try to pull away. No turbo at all, it's like driving an SDI. Switch the engine off and back on and all is good. Sometimes the engine warning light comes on and sometimes not. So, Crawley down Skoda service center had it in last week for 3 days. Replaced something and tested it and it was fine. I drove it and it happened within 10 min on the motorway. Took it back and they have had if for two days and have replaced something else and they think it might now be ok. Thing is, they seem so unsure and very confused (plus slow at sorting things out!). Today they told me that the test drive went ok but the driver wants to drive a normal 2.0 TDi tomorrow and then get back in mine to check that they are the same! Seems a bit odd as the fault I'm having is very obvious. Lets just say I don't have much faith in them. I've done some searching online and this issues comes up occasionally. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and also if anyone can recommend anywhere else in sussex that does Skoda warranty work? Thanks Bradley
  2. I have had quite a lot of interest in the car over the last week but all offers have been several hundred pounds less than I have been offered for it at trade in which seems weird. I wonder why people think I'd be likely to accept less money for more work! Still, dont blame them for trying really!
  3. What would people think of as a genuine offer? I mean, I know the original 6800 was a genuine offer in hind site but should I just hang on for something to come up or sell it for way below the expected value? advertising on autotrader isn't cheap!
  4. I must say I'm having a really tough time selling my Fabia vRS at the moment. The day I posted it on here a forum member offered me £6800 for it. I think I put it down at about £7700 which was way too high but I'd based it on a couple of cars I'd seen on autotrader. Unfortunately I rejected the offer only to realise that it was a decent offer when I check the valuations for the car! Unforunately since then I haven't had any offers about £6000! According to whatcar and glass's its worth about £6650 at private sale so I'm surprised I havent had any offers around £6500. Its in very good condition, fsh, cruise control, metallic paint, 4 months remaining warraty, 2004 model with 48500 miles. Hopefully something will come up soon that is at least somewhere close to the actual value of the car!
  5. Cool, thanks. The 2.3 V5 must be heavier engine which would slow it down a bit
  6. just checked and the tax is actually the same for the Toledo V5 and the vRS!
  7. Thanks, yeah, the Toledo 2.3 V5 is a little heavier on the fuel than the 1.8T. Anyone on the forums got a 1.8T with high miles for that cash? I put a post in the wanted section!
  8. I'm having a tough time deciding what to go for. I've got a budget of up to around £3500 (maybe £3800) and it seems I could get either one of these cars of around 2001 with 80-90k on the clock. The Toledo V5 170bhp seems to be very well equiped for the cash and has slightly more features than the vRS. Slightly cheaper to buy second hand than the vRS The vRS has a totally different 1.8T engine and is a little quicker. Slightly more practical as its a hatchback and slightly better fuel consumption figures. More potential for tuning but I don't think I'd be doing that anyway. Both seem to get good, very similar reviews. I must admit I'm having a hard time trying to decide between the two. I havent driven either yet (not many around where I live). It also doesnt seem to be easy to find high mileage vRS models for that price although I have seen a few. Anyone got any opinions on the two?
  9. I got one guy very interested withing a day of putting my car up for sale. He offered a decent price (based on whatcar.com) but a little lower than the market in Sussex. Thats been the only contact on the forum. Ebay is not bad, had one person interested in 2 weeks. Got a call from the autotrader ad within hours and am hoping that sale will go through. Sites like ebay, autotrader, friday-ad ect reach many more people than a forum will
  10. Thanks guys, are all the vRS cars drive by wire?
  11. Thanks Scottie_vrs, I use cruise control all the time and would hate to be without it! If possible I'd getting it fitted by VRStu. He did my fabia vRS and is only about an hours drive from me.
  12. Thanks, Will key my eyes open for the vRS too. I'm also thinking about a Golf GTi 1.8T of the same age or perhaps the 1.9 GT TDi with a remap. I don't really need the diesel economy benefit as I've moved a lot closer to work and wont be driving as much as I used to. The Octavia seems to be better value over the Golf. I've emailed Stu to see if cruise control can be fitted? Anyone know the answer? Bradley
  13. I'm thinking about selling my fabia vRS to free up some cash and going for an older higher mileage Octavia 1.8T. I should be about to get something with around 80-90k year 2000 SLXi model for about £3000 Are there likely to be any issues if I go for a car as described? Anything I should look out for when shopping around? thanks Bradley
  14. I would recommend giving the vRS a chance. If you still don't like it though then I have no problems in recommending a hyundai. I had the 1.6 Getz for about 9 months before I got the vRS and it was completely trouble free. My mum now owns the getz and I bought the fabia vRS. Main reason for changing was the desire for better fuel consumption and cruise control. I bought the fabia second hand and got cruise fitted by one of the forum members. If I had the choice I wouldnt go back to the hyundai from the vRS however, the hyundai dealership and service center were far more helpful than my local Skoda! Goodluck with whichever one you choose
  15. I had noticed that the 1.3 90bhp was not longer on the website! I'd like to try the new 1.4 turbo but I think I would still go for the diesel due to the better fuel economy. Hope she enjoys the new Panda!
  16. yeah, the 1.3 mjet is great. Very quiet too! My vRS sounds like a truck in comparison. I'd be quite tempted by the 1.3 90bhp grande punto and then get it re-mapped. Still, not sure if that would be quite enough! I'm about to get my fabia vRS remapped so I can't imagine I'll want to step right down to around 120bhp!
  17. Thanks for all the info on the car! I bought my fabia vRS last year and had to try really hard to decide between that and the Grande Punto. In the end it was the lack of second hand models that made me choose the skoda as I could get one for
  18. Looks like Greenlight have blacklisted the fabia vRS. They told me they wont quote it due to excessive number of claims!
  19. He is lucky! I just called swfitcover and they told me there was no way they would cover a remap of any kind!
  20. Going to get the Fabia vRS remapped soon I hope. Looking for an insurance provider that will deal with modified cars. Thanks, Brad
  21. Mine is close to spot on most of the time. I often cross check between the on board computer and the manual method and it's never far off!
  22. Is that just a case of swapping the yellow and red wires around? The connector cable seems to provide this option. If this is the case, then I have tried it with no luck at all.
