  1. Just back from another trip to Australia hired a Suzy Swift for nine days...nine days of having to high rev to set cruise control..nine days of no real boot...nine days... and there are a few more issues...I got the Illness out of the long stay at terminal 4 and fooking welped round the M25 ....I thankyou ....
  2. Returned from "up north" and final true mpg..41.4.Four and a half hour three hundred mile dash for home inclusive of wives fag'n'comfort breaks. The trip to the lakes of which the passes were completed in auto mode one way and flappy gears on the return. Happy happy days for the Illness!
  3. Part one:- North Kent coast to Newark..following day on to Kettlewell via Snake Pass in tbe Peaks through Bradford and onto Kettlewell....real mpg ??? 46.2 ....I love the Illness...Lakes today and the two great passes of Wrynose and Hardknot of which my dear wife knows nothing about !!
  4. On the way up to the Dales, stop over in Newark...The real fun starts tomorrow, the Illness hasn't missed a beat in 10 months and 15000 miles. Every mile begets a smile.
  5. Had to do this yesterday morning,I'm old and thick and it took three minutes ...no "bing bong service calling" this morning!
  6. First MOT yesterday on the Illness,no problems. Looking forward to the first of our bi annual trips up to the Dales in the first week of April.Every mile still comes with a smile !
  7. Totally agree with above, set at same gap, running a tuning box with no problems at all.
  8. I used a small bladed screw driver to remove both the plastic parts and a visual guide I found in the briskoda search under "hard wiring dash cam" took thirty minutes and I'm an old fart at these things...good luck.
  9. Just got back from a month in Australia driving a Kia Rio! I hadn't even got out of the "long stay" at Heathrow and the grin was back...how I missed the Illness !
  10. I received one for the Illness on my birthday. Took the five minutes suggested earlier, was simple as suggested earlier and has the bonus of being the right size for my vintage Ray Bans plus one stashed roll of Polo's,sweets of the gods, not suggested earlier but most welcome.
  11. With help from this forum my local garage has had no problems servicing my vRS.They had not previously serviced a twin charge engine and were honest about it.Using reccomended servicing details from here and charging a sensible price for labour has only improved my vRS experience thus far.
  12. Coming up for 8500 miles on my 2013 vrs since purchase mid July this year. No problems at all with very mixed and varied driving.A smile for every mile....
  13. Loool...ever the shark..let the whole community know please..
  14. Appropriately "bright light" coming from Gizmo ;)
  15. I wanted a Polo gti/Seat with the same engine.... then after researching realised the vRS had to be the comparative bargain of the century. I bought,"The Illness",mid July this year.A 2013, 14500 mile vRS..I have the rarb, yellow stuff brake pads and Denso spark plugs suggested by others.I have since then covered 8000 miles, everyone with a smile on my face,no added oil and consistent 40 plus mpg with mixed driving. Having the later engine perhaps is the reason for my pleasure but as you have read repeatedly there are far far more good cars than bad.I say again, with this engine, the mk 2 vRS has to be the bargain of the century!
  16. My "young adults" both VW owners refer to my vRS as " The labia fabia" or The gaybia fabia"...We only know her as the Illness!
  17. I used it on my Fabia 2 2013 vRS. I piggy backed using the smaller piggy back fuse. I used a second row fuse, which by sheer luck, first go, was permanently live, which is what I wanted.I have had no issues at all since install three weeks and a few thousand miles back now.
  18. Lol,no,I looked for the "outside" mark on noth tyres before I drove off,but I know what you mean mate.
  19. Had tyres put on at G&M Autos King Street Herne Bay Kent. They've just started doing tyres and will fit if you supply ,as I did. No complaints at all.
  20. New tyres Monday,on the front, performed very well in this morning deluge.Tyres fitted perfect, alloys scratch free,by G&M autos Kings Road Herne Bay...
  21. Rarb finally in. Bad u bolt had to be replaced,no dramas. Out at four this morning terrifying myself round bends. With new tyres on the front, finally, ready for winter in the soft south. I've a few days in the wild, wild west,Cheltenham, towards the end of this week so valuable run to check tyres and bar....living the "vRS" dream....
  22. Using Denso, 0.6 gaps with Blue Spark box, measured 3.6 l of oil in service 1500 miles ago,(three weeks),living the 'vrs' dream !
  23. Candy white 2013 had the "Illness" for four months and 6,000 miles and love her.Have taken advice here for tuning box,(haven't gone below 40mpg with any style of driving),rarb for handling and yellow stuff front pads with a view to track days.
  24. Yesterday I took an assessment for IAM and discovered I wasn't very good at making sure my assessor was capable of securing his seat belt correctly, even though warning of this would have come via the cars systems. I also discovered that I didnt explain the intricate nature of the gear box in the Illness to my assessor...but on the other hand my ability to control speed and overtake were very good though my road positioning at junctions and braking were average. I was offered a position on a course but won't be taking it up.I will spend the money saved on this, attending skid pad training and improved driving techniques which I consider will improve my present skills far better for myself and other occupants of the car than explaining gear boxes and seat belts. I'm sure for some IAM works but not for me.
  25. I've had the Illness for just over six thousand miles now and she still hasn't missed a beat. My trusted local independant garage love her. I've taken advice from here to change my spark plugs after 20,000 miles, each of the previous ones being a "lovely" colour, along with filters and oil change.I've gone on to yellow stuff front pads with a view to future track days. The addition of a bluespark tuning box set on the middle setting shows a regular forty mph. I remain a very happy vRS owner and look forward to many more miles of fun.
