  1. Well the skoda Octavia was written off last week not long after spending the best part of £750 having the egr valve replaced Looking at my replacement options I dont want a replacement diesel with all the issues with egr and dpf issues Would like a petrol engine with an auto box that gives decent fuel economy That leads me to a petrol hybrid and as skoda dont make one yet I am going to get a new Toyota Corolla sport touring for my next cab Retail at £26k there is a firm that is providing them new for just under £20k So o this will probably be my last post on here. Nice chatting with you all
  2. If you purchase a cat d car in the normal warrant period that has been repaired Will the dealer repair the vehicle in the future if it develops and warranty issues
  3. New egr fitted so stripped old unit The plastic gears were fine and no teeth missing. The valve moved fine with no interference The tubes that travel through the water jacket do look bunged up with carbon, see pic. Is this enough of a restriction to cause the eml to come on. If cleaned out would this work again
  4. Have we any news of the lawsuit against VW for the diesel gate ea189 here in the UK As mine was one that was affected would I have to keep the cat until it was settled or would it be enough if I had the original invoice from the selling dealer
  5. Next car is going to be a hybrid with petrol electric system Tired of these diesels of all brands with issues with one thing or another Will skoda be bringing one out anytime soon or am I going to change brands and get the Toyota auris sports tourer or the Hyundai ioniq
  6. What mileage did that break. Has it had regular oil changes
  7. I also drop the oil and filter every 8000 miles using low ash quantum 5w30 long life oil. Believe if oil goes for longer periods this collects more carbon and also contributes to extra crud passing through the egr valve
  8. Been advise to egr fixed by indie garage and not get the update done as it forces the egr valve to work twice as hard Its lasted 138,000 miles so not done to bad though I always use shell fuels and not supermarket pisch
  9. Done about 136,000 miles now. Only me drives it. Tend to buy them 3 years old at 50,000 mile and sell them 4 years later with 150,000 Tend to get best reliability and costing during that period Couldnt bear paying out for a new cab to be used as a taxi
  10. ok going to be in the market soon to replace my Skoda octavia estate mk 2 1.6cr manual that I use for a taxi question is do I go for another diesel with the egr, dpf issues or do I go for the 14 petol engine and does it have less problems next up are the automatic dsg gearboxes ok
  11. Yes the crud could have caused the gears to jam and the metal gear just sheers the teeth off. My car never had the emissions update done but I believe skoda replaced these units amongst other items under there 2 year trust building measure. If I get my egr replaced by my local indie is it worth getting skoda to update the software and get the 2 year warranty. Car is under the 160,000 mile threshold. Has been service by myself after warranty ran out using genuine parts. Would that be enough to refuse the 2 year trust building warranty
  12. Have been looking at the common cause of the egr problem on the Skoda 1.6cr and it seems the plastic cog that is driven by the metal gear on the motor causes the plastic gear to strip its teeth on not move the mechanism throwing up a fault code P0403 Now £800 to replace this item seems a lot of money On a well know auction site there are plastic gears available to purchase to replace the gear at fault for maybe a £30 fix Looking upwards under the car (see pic) you can see the housing the gear sits in and removing the 4x 2.5 Allen headed bolts and the electrical connector would release the mechanism The gear in the housing can then be swopped over and the housing placed back onto the egr and bolted back up and electrical connection plugged in anyone tried this? may give it a go this week
  13. Believe the fault was the rheostat that controls the fan speeds. The motor wasnt working on speeds 1 and 2 and this was the reason the car wasnt demisting Part number 1K0959263A £41.63 from pts
  14. have seen a guide for removing the trim on a yeti in theses forums for fitting a rear dash cam is there a guide for removing the tailgate trim on the mk2 octavia estate also is it a good idea tho fix it to the rear glass or would this cause damage to the camera with constant closing of the tailgate
  15. the ventilation through my dashboard has never been great so i scanned the car for faults and found one motor for air distribution flap actuator stuck what issues does this cause and anyone know how to rectify it, thanks
  16. The bonnet release lever was lying in my footwell this morning Put it back in place but it's not secure as it comes off the locating peg Is there supposed to be a clip similar to a window winder handle to secure the bonnet lever Vehicle is a Skoda Octavia mk2 estate Thanks
  17. Could be Repair short or open or high resistance in wiring harness or harness connectors Might be worth ringing Skoda and asking if there is a modified or upgraded part for your vehicle

  19. Do you have to programme the ecu to tell it a new agm battery has been fitted
  20. Just checked how much a replacement battery would be for my greenline 2012 Over £200 for an agm battery are they really that much more advanced than a standard battery I need a sit down ????
  21. I have a 2012 octavia greenline with a standard roof mounted trim with the alarm sensor On eBay there are a couple of these trims with sunglasses holder and alarm sensor Are they interchangeable or is the sensor coded to the alarm
  22. Is there a reason it gives a date in the year 2046
  23. just read my octavia using a micro can which came up with the faults listed didnt realise i had faults (have changed rear number plate bulb recently though) the battery fault is odd as the date is in the future, also are the door reg faults old codes that havent been cleared see attached file Log-TMBHT21Z3D2028792-80047.txt
