  1. Ahh - I only got the cheaper set with the 4 mats in hence the confusion. Still waiting for my white set to arrive so will be selling the 4pc red and 4 pc blue sets that I have now acquired (though my lack of forethought and the sellers ****-up)!
  2. Well, as you're not going to let this go, since losing most of my left thumb and some of my index finger in a factory crush injury, a fair bit actually and I cant always pull the handbrake on without the ratchet due to the pain in my thumb stump. Maybe I should be made to drive a LHD car? Any more smart answers?
  3. Cant say that I do? just making the point that the mechanism feels nasty and sounds cheap like it wasn't assembled correctly in the factory or something - not a slick mechanism by any means..
  4. Haha - yeah, must have missed the page in the owners manual that said what the "proper" way was - silly me Trouble is though, if I do that, I think I can hear other noises like the inner cable pulling through the outer cable - is there a way to stop that - that noise is maddening too? hey, is there a "proper" way for anything else mum?

  6. Ok, I am a bit obsessive, and having owned a few VW's previously, I know that Skoda may have scrimped on a few of the quality items that VW has (ahem..) as standard.. but whilst the handbrake on my VRS works fine, it doesn't sound particularity pleasant when you pull it on! In fact sounds like a dry 1/2" socket set ratchet being turned in a biscuit tin to me? Kinda echoey and even a bit..er..cheap (sorry!). Anyone else also been annoyed to the point of a "mod" with this and if so, what that was? More grease on the mechanism? sound deadening pads?
  7. God - stupidly satisfying when you do the job and play with the handles! I just grinned! Cheap and nasty to upmarket & classy in 10 minutes! I'm such a saddo, but I cant help looking for things I can make look/work better
  8. Yeah, I had that same thought about the idea of taking them to bits in future - don't think it would be pretty! Still, apart from doing this job, when was the last time you ever needed to remove the pivot pit from one of these handles?
  9. Are you sure you haven't put them together incorrectly?
  10. Yes, without any spring force or added leverage, they did feel pretty stiff (if trying to move them with just your fingers), but once together, anything less wouldn't have damped the action sufficiently as the spring is pretty strong.. Compared the the Wife's Tiguan and my old Bora, they now feel exactly the same and as they should..couldn't be happier with the result.
  11. Er.. not me - I know what you are saying, but the groove was on either side (both sides) of mine and it went together fairly easily once I had worked out exactly what went into what groove..
  12. It will melt (and get chewed up etc), but before it disintegrates, it will melt and stick to components such as Turbo Vanes throwing it out of balance, which at up to 100,000 rpm is likely to throw a vane (broken turbo at this point at least) into the induction throat, and if it or any part gets past a valve (or worse jams one open), valve(s) meets piston(s) would be probable. Dead engine needing a new head likely outcome. Or, it might all be ok. But, I for one would not risk a few grand for a straw/tube.
  13. Are we talking about the plastic "straw" that comes on a can of WD40 (for example)? If so - I would very, very much recommend removing it by what ever clever means possible to prevent (likely) turbo demolition chain reaction destroying engine :peek: If you didn't start the engine - this might be possible: get a length of hosepipe, and hold it loosely inside the suction pipe of an old hoover (that you don't care about if it get oily gubb inside!), and try to suck the offending tube back out. Course, if you have started the engine with the tube still in, it may already be too late

  16. Bikes and Skoda's - smashing! Been riding since 1978 (aged 14!), tried to give em up, but just cant do it! Three of my current bikes:
  17. Good one But on the assumption that a breaker doesn't remove many parts until asked to, they wont know the part number I suspect, and there isn't much point in my telling them a number if they haven't removed the item to check it
  18. I think I want to put this on the list of "stuff to do"! However, is there anyway of identifying if its a Maxidot without it being switched on? I'm just looking at eBay Octavia's being broken for spares, and unless the seller happened to have a pic of the gauges with the ignition on, cant see that they will know what I'm on about if I ask: "a maxiwot mate?" etc..
  19. Surely they are beneath us in the hierarchy?
  20. Well the wife's always telling me that I have no taste.. Just to test a theory, I have just had a chew on one, but they do taste ('orrible!), so I guess it means tasteless to put them in your Skoda, but I think they compliment my arch flames and glitterflake paint-job quite nicely
  21. Particularly on the VRS, seems a bit tight of Skoda not to have done this in the first place!
