  1. I am happy to say, reverse is now fixed. I found a second hand gearbox on eBay and for £350 posted so bought it but when it was delivered the casing was all smashed. after a lengthy chat with the supplier, they refunded me £250 and said I could keep the box. after reading so many posts and watching YouTube videos I felt confident to undertake the repair myself. I stripped the damaged replacement box, it wasn't a bad job, just time consuming. I removed my gearbox from the car and proceeded to strip that but found absolutely NOTHING wrong with it. I took the gearbox to an auto specialist in bits and he charged me £250 to test and check everything. he put it all back togather and the only thing he found wrong with it was a worm o ring in the oil pump. refitted the box with new oil and filter and it works. I am so pleased with it, the gear changes are amazing, hardly noticeable. if anyone else has an issue with reverse, I have got complete internals spare for a 5hp19 eyf gearbox

  3. sorry for the late reply wishbone. I did in fact manage to swop my gear knob for one from a 2004 a4, straight fit but it does look out of place. I keep trying to find a second hand one but they're like rocking horse ****.
  4. Hopefully the aftermarket parts are a bit stronger then the original for you. I didn't think it was too bad myself but I've only just bought the car for £1560 and £650 just seems a bit like a kick in the teeth. The £650 repair was if I took the gearbox out and re-fit, and then it wasn't an overhaul, just a reverse drum supply and fit with new filter and oil. Thats from a bloke called John in portway, redditch. He doesn't advertise, I got hold of him via my snap on dealer. I do have his number thought if anyone wants it I think I'm going to call up Sussex auto for the drum/kit and have a go at doing it myself. Cheers for the help jimbof
  5. Thanks for the reply and the link.. If you don't mind me asking how much was your repair? Cheapest I've been quoted is £650 but then extra if any clutches are found to be worn :/
  6. Hi all, I know you have probably been trough all of this before but I have read and read forum after forum and haven't actually found an answer although I have an idea.... Reverently bought my superb from from auction and shortly after purchasing noticed I have a reverse issue. It will go into reverse, and will crawl/roll backwards but as soon as I accelerate it will loose drive then when returns to idle it will start to reverse again I have read a lot about reverse drum but not 100% sure this is my issue as I do get reverse, I have done a code scan and only got p1119 from abs control unit 'gear recognition signal intermittent. Could this be an issue due to a faulty valve/pressure regulater or is it reverse drum?? Should it be due to the reverse drum has many people changed them or even know where I can purchase a drum from? Thanks in advance, James
  7. Hi, it shouldn't effect them as the xenon load sensor is on the arm but worse case basic setting the headlight aim is a doddle on vag-com or some snap on scanners and a headlamp alignment tool
  8. I also have this issue. Managed to find another gear knob complete off an A4. I will be attempting to swap the knob over the weekend. I will take some photo's and post should I succeed
  9. Hi, new on here. I'm James from Warwickshire. I have just bought my first skoda and its a 55plate superb. Totally standard and like it that way, for the mo anyway. I'm a mechanic, spent 9years from college in an independent garage and a further year in an Audi dealership Anyway nice to meet you all, James
  10. Hi guys, I am new to owning a Skoda after writing off my golf. I bought the 1.9tdi superb from an auction and not until I paid for it realised I've got trouble with reverse. It's tiptronic and the tiptronic gears weren't working but didn't take long to replace the magnets on the selector and now works My more serious issue is reverse gear. It will go into reverse and roll/crawl backwards but looses drive as soon as accelerator is depressed, then when idling it will return to roll/crawl backwards. I have read endless forums off the reverse drums and spoke to many gearbox "specialists" who just want to take the box out and recondition it It does have a fault code p1119 gear recognition signal intermittent, but no other fault codes Could anyone please give me a genuine answer or opinion of next steps. Many thanks in advance, James
