  1. I have had a 64 plate VRS estate for nearly 3 years and had a thrumming resonance from the rear of the car, which varies according to the road surface. I believe it to be the noise from the rear suspension being transmitted through the bodyshell into the boot, which is acting like a big speaker. The car has been into 3 different dealers who could find no problem - no surprise there ! Have changed the tyres to Goodyears, had dynamat installed around boot, had new rear shocks and tried adjusting boot. I have actually found that having some old dustsheets and curtains lying permanently in the boot has reduced the noise to an acceptable level, as I guess they are absorbing the sound. The ultimate solution though is to order a Superb Sportline, using your wife's Spaceback as a part exchange and getting your wife to have the VRS !! This is what I have done and have just taken delivery of a Corrida red Sportline. It is so much quieter, smoother and more refined than VRS, which is no real surprise. Plus I still get to drive the VRS, when I want to experience 300bhp again ! Such a shame that you are having to get rid of the car, because of this one issue.
  2. I took delivery of a Sportline last Friday with ACC and the day after we travelled down to the Isle of Wight so was using the ACC. At some point near Southampton, the warning flashed up that front assist is unavailable and this has remained all week. Have tried turning it off on the infotainment, but warning light is still there. Will be taking it back to the dealer on my return. Anyone else experienced this issue ?
  3. Mine is a manual gearbox and I have had no problem with clutch wear, although it has only done around 20k miles since the remap. I guess if you do a lot of stop start driving and use the extra power more often than not, the clutch will wear out quicker.
  4. I have stage 1 Revo remap with 300bhp and similar amount of torque. Pulls like a train and keeps pulling, unlike the diesel. Have had Revo remap on all 3 VRS's that I have owned, with no problems.
  5. Yes thumping the steel in the boot area does produce a similar drumming noise. Perhaps I should try a spare wheel and clamp it down to see if it makes a difference.
  6. Yes, whilst my car was having the shocks replaced, I had the use of the service managers VRS for 2 days, which was a 65 plate on 19" extremes. This made the same noise as mine, although not quite as bad. The ride was definitely firmer with the 19" extremes so was glad I hadn't gone for these even though they look great. On the 2nd visit to this dealer, I took a master technician out with me and whilst he could hear the noise, he said they "all do it" !! I expect to get tyre roar with low profile tyres which will be worse on rougher tarmac, but I don't consider this booming/drumming noise is normal. It varies with the movement of the suspension, so there has to be a design flaw if this noise is being transmitted into the bodyshell and the boot is acting like a sound box. If I knew for sure that installing H&R lowering springs and Bilsteins would cure the problem or at least reduce the noise to an acceptable level, I would do it.
  7. This is indeed a very long thread ! My Octavia has the accoustic rear suspension that produces the booming sound, which is worse on rough tarmac. Car has been into 3 different dealers now. First 2 blamed CS2 tyres which I have now replaced with Goodyear F1s which has made no difference to the noise. 3rd dealer has replaced rear shocks, still no difference. Have had dynamat sound proofing fitted all around boot area, still no difference ! Have tried all the other tricks mentioned in this thread. Looks like I will have to live with it, until I can justify swapping to a Superb.
  8. Would be interested to know if Skoda have made any modifications to resolve this issue for MY16.
  9. Anyone know if the sound actuator can be reprogrammed to produce the engine note from say an Audi TTRS, as I understand the 5 cylinder sounds great ?
  10. Let us know what you think of them, as I am thinking of changing the CS2s on mine due to the amount of noise they produce. I am torn between the GY F1s and Michelin Pilot Super Sports, as they get even better reviews than the F1s.
  11. Mine was supplied with CS2s last Sept. Dry grip is good, but road noise is poor on rough tarmac so will be changing to either the Goodyear F1 Asy 2 or Michelin PS3 soon.
  12. Can you clarify why the Goodyears are a better tyre i.e. in terms of dry grip, wet grip, comfort, noise, etc ?
  13. This is good to hear, as I am seriously considering changing the SC2s on my estate due to the noise, even though they have only done 8k miles and still have plenty of tread left. I was going to go for the Goodyears, but may now go for the SC5s. Where did you source them from and did you get a good price ?
  14. I specced it last Feb when there were none around to look at, as it was a new white. It looks great in the sunlight, but when dull I would describe it as a grey white. Best thing to do is pop down your nearest dealer and look at one in the flesh. Chances are they will have cars in all 3 shades of white. As already said, probably not worth the extra £550 over candy or laser white.
  15. My VRS Estate 64 plate has had a thrumming resonance from the rear since new. It has been in 2 different dealers twice now and neither could find any problem and they both concluded it is the tyre compound despite the fact they have tried different tyres ! I believe it is suspension related as it sounds like the movement of the shocks is being transmitted/resonated through the boot floor. The resonance varies according to the road surface i.e. it is louder on rough tarmac. I have tried adjusting the buffers on the tailgate and this has made no difference. I have now booked the car in to be soundproofed with Dynamat pads, which is going to cost £400 !! I would like to know if anyone else has tried this and noticed any improvement before I part with £400. If this doesn't work, I am going to try some Koni FSD shocks, which must be an improvement over the standard items and will hopefully improve the ride as well. Has anyone tried changing the shocks and or springs ?
