  1. Thanks for all the useful comments and suggestions regarding my original question. From the sensible people I learned about the Hill Hold feature, this is the solution. My car did not have this, that was the reason for it rolling back. I exchanged cars with the dealer for one which had Hill Hold - the replacement one is absolutely perfect. If the engine stop start function is activated the car will hold itself on a hill long enough to accelerate and drive away. It is just as I expected it to work, and similar to automatic cars with the normal torque converter type gearbox, so the handbrake is not necessary. If anyone wants to buy a DSG Skoda Superb I would definately advise to get one with Hiil Hold, in my opinion it is a 'must have' option. Thanks to Andrew Pengelley at Specialist Car Skoda Aberdeen for allowing me to exchange the car I bought, and sourcing a similar spec model for me with the addition of Hill Hold. Great customer service, recommended as a dealer.
  2. Hello, I have a 2014 Superb Elegance 170BHP 4x4 DSG and am concerned with it rolling back. After stopping on a hill the auto stop start will cut the engine, when I ease the pressure on the brake pedal the engine starts but between the time when my foot comes off the brake pedal and goes onto the accelerator the car rolls back. I demonstrated to a Skoda mechanic at my dealership: I stopped on a hill, the engine cut out, I took my foot off the brake, the engine started, I deliberately didn't touch the accelerator and while the car was still in Drive it rolled back over 2 metres! The dealer is telling me; they all do that / the DSG gearbox isn't really an auto box like other cars (Mercedes) / the extra weight of the 4x4 causes it / they can't do anything about it... It just seems wrong to me. Has anyone else experienced this? All responses gratefully received - thank you.
  3. Apologies if I'm going over old ground but the thread doesn't seem to have an answer to my specific query... I wish to purchase a set of 4 alloy wheels with winter tyres for my 2014 Skoda Superb 2.0TDi CR Elegance Estate 4x4 170BHP DSG It is fitted with 18" wheels at present and 225/40 tyres. I wish to change to 17" wheels for the winter tyres - ideally in a 205/50 size. The tyres I want are Continental ContiWinterContact TS850's Having looked on 'MyTyres.co.uk' I am confused about the rim sizes available; they range from 6.5J to 7.5J and OS45 to OS49. Can anyone please advise which wheel/tyre sizes will work best?
  4. Anyone experienced an annoying vibration coming from the front of the car (seems to be behind the dash) at about 1300 - 1400 rpm? Car is a 2014 Superb Elegance 2.0 TDi CR 4x4 Elegance (170bhp) DSG. Do they all do this? Thanks in advance for replies and advice - do I need to take it back to dealer or is it a 'feature' of the car/engine?
  5. I had a cracked alloy on my previous car - Merc C200 Kompressor. The tyre fitter pointed it out to me, it was on the inside rim. The tyre had been holding pressure. I had it repaired - alloy welded and finished. Couldn't tell there had ever been any damage when the guy handed it back. £40. I drove it for a year and never had a single problem, completely air tight Used D.E.A. Engineering Works Limited (Welding/Fabrication/Maintenance), Cuminestown, Turriff. Mobile 07968 336084. [email protected] I would use them again. Obviously not much use to people living outwith the Aberdeenshire area but you may find something locally. Expect there may be detractors saying not to repair a cracked wheel but in my experience it was absolutely fine. I saw a high quality job had been done and was happy to drive on it.
