  1. In the end I caved and went for the Triple QX on Eurocarparts for £45. It is VW 504/507 spec and got some good thumbs up on these forums and just wanted to get it and get it done and hours of searching turned up nothing better! Longlife III seems well established in the VAG servicing trade though and at £20 you couldn't go wrong really. Probably end up stocking up on a couple bottles when it's back on offer. Edit - Just seen its back on for £24. Wish I'd sodding waited now!
  2. Really wish it wasn't sold out at that price. Damn.
  3. Its a lot easier to get in behind the CD player and check there first than it is stripping down that damned plastic backing to the boot. Also, even if its still attached by the cd player take some extra steps to keep it that way i.e. gaffa tape, whatever or else you risk it separating in the future and blowing your reverse parking sensors control nicely positioned under there. Ive found my pipe separated at both locations in the past. Seems the second I replace it its quick to pop out again. Need to take some extra steps myself to keep them stuck together, maybe soak the washer jet in something incase its a bit corroded and causing somekinda back pressure to separate the pipes. It does sound like its leaking from behind your boot plastic though, likely when you open the boot its dripping down from the top (now upside down from being open) however, for the sake of removing 3 bolts and pulling the carpet back may as well check by the cd changer and get something on it. If you fix it behind the boot lid and that in turn causes it to slip out at the cd changer and take out your parking sensor control unit youll be pretty miffed.
  4. I think things are going to get a bit muddled if we all post different sensor problems on one post. Someone who's got the long error tone beep is gonna have a different issue to someone whos just not seeing the on screen display to someone whos got nothing happening at all lol May be best starting new topics! Best of luck, Im still yet to pull my B pillar apart
  5. How did you gauge if the unit was shot or not or did you just replace it?
  6. Im not particularly knowledged as a mechanic or anything but I do think I had a recent incident which sounds along the same lines of what you may be experiencing... I also own a 1.9TDI engined Octavia. I was travelling on the M62 back from Manchester to Leeds and having come out of the road works at 50mph had come upto speed at 70 when suddenly there was a shudder, I lost all power and with my foot to the floor in 4th could barely maintain 60. Having perhaps foolishly braved the journey home on fear of being stuck on the hard shoulder of one of the most dreaded motorways in the north I found the bottom of my engine bay drenched in oil and thought Id lost my car. Took it up to troys who said it was the turbo hose that had blown, they said they replaced the hose and the replacement blew as well. In the end it seemed that the turbo had gotten so clogged up with crap it was just tearing through hoses. What they did there after I believe was to use some turbo cleaner, most likely from FORTE which I know they use in their services to pour straight into the turbo (Ive heard people remove the air filter and tip it straight down?) and then blast the car round at really high revs, even encouraging me to fill up and jet the car round a bit to really clean things out. Since then Ive had no issue, and the cars been an absolute dream to drive, even giving a much better response from the throttle! :p I do enjoy pushing my car when I hit country roads but generally Im know to swiftly move through the gears, and unlike most be into 5th by 40mph and people have commented that perhaps this style of driving might not be so great for the car, so if you find you have a similar driving style to me, it could perhaps simply be that even with a well serviced car, if you dont get some cleaner through and push the car through its gears a bit more aggressively then things might get a bit clogged! Hope this might have helped in some way and best of luck getting back up and running!!
  7. Did it post 3 times? Christ. No idea what went wrong there then. Apologies. Not off to a great start am I
  8. Thanks for the reply, Ill take a look see if I can find it. Would this stop the display on my radio coming up though?
  9. Ooh Ive checked the 'posts im following' and my post did go through after all, thank goodness for that !
  10. Hey, Im Simon from Leeds, 24yr old, owned my 05 octavia nearly a year and cant get over what a lovely car it is! I have just signed up tonight for some help and advice on the dreaded reverse packing sensors issue, but rather depressingly after writing out an entire post on the matter and submitting it, I was told I didnt have the permission to post and then completely lost my entire post, ARGH bit gutted! Is there something Im doing wrong? Cheers, Simon
  11. Hi all, first time poster! Owned my 05 mk2 octavia elegance nearly a year now, picked it up from auction and its been such a treat! I have the dreaded faulty reverse sensors issue that seems to be common, HOWEVER, after reading other topics on here I have put my ear to each sensor and all 4 sensors emit the clicking noise so one would assume they therefore are all fully functional? Ive had a look over the control unit located on the wheel arch and nothing seems visually out of order, no loose cables etc. Also if this was at fault would the sensors still emit a beep? Very very oddly once or twice to my surprise the system did kick in and the sensors activated, the radio screen displayed the associated parking display and the sensors functioned as normal. this is just a rare odd once or twice out of what must be hundreds of reverses over this past year. Initially when I got the car, engaging reverse would emit a long beep presumably indicating a fault. This past month however, there is no noise at all, nothing on radio screen, reverse engages, reverse lights come on, sensors still emit the clicking sound each but absolutely no noises or anything on display. fuses in dash fuse box are fine. Anyone any suggestions what to do ?
