  1. Some time since my original post on this topic, but in January the Rapid refused to start whilst out shopping and parked in the shop car park. It had driven 12 miles to the shop with no problem and had been parked for only 30 minute or so. Breakdown chap arrived and tested the battery which was absolutely flat. He started the car with his jump pack and we drove 12 miles home with no further trouble. I purchased a new battery from Halfords and fitted it myself. Ever since then the "Low Battery" message has not appeared and the Start/Stop system cuts in far more frequently than it had done before. This supports my original suspicion that the original MOLL battery was the problem. MOLL batteries had been replaced by Skoda when they had been fitted as standard to new Kodiaqs, but Skoda always said that the problem only affected Kodiaqs fitted with MOLL batteries , and definitely did not affect Rapids fitted with MOLL batteries.
  2. Thanks for this info. I am currently talking to Skoda UK who seem to think that the info from the Skoda dealership may not be correct.
  3. There is no starting problem, the engine starts perfectly every time. It just gives this message almost every time the ignition key is turned. If I fully charge the battery with a smart charger are you saying this will harm the battery?
  4. The Rapid does very few long journeys. Most are between 8 and 30 miles two or three times a week. I can understand that the battery probably does need top ups and I want to buy a charger, but one that is suitable for the car.
  5. My wife's Rapid 1.2TSI has regularly displayed the message, "BATTERY LOW, PLEASE START ENGINE OR TURN OFF INFOTAINMENT", on ignition turn on. It has done this from new but has always started OK. It is now 3 years old so no longer eligible for Skoda Assist. My Skoda garage says I need to charge the battery every month or so to cure the problem. Two questions; 1. Is this a common problem with this model fitted with. MOLL battery? 2. I have seen somewhere that vehicles with START/STOP must be charged with a special charger. Is this true? If it is can anyone recommend a suitable charger? Thanks for any advice you can give me.
  6. If they were not willing to deal with you via the postal system then they could not possibly gain possession of the original delivery document. Why not scan the document and email it to them. That way you have retained the original and they have a copy of the document. Also, I think you will find that you have agreed to Ts&Cs that state that you MUST comply with all of their requests, failing which you will indeed be subject to penalties.
  7. I have a Nextbase DUO, front and rear camera in one unit. The front is wide angle and the rear looks back through the car with a telephoto lens. Only disadvantage of this is that with five on board the rear camera is looking at the middle rear passenger's face! Mounted with sucker behind left side of rear view mirror. Cable pushed into trim at top and passenger side of widscreen, behind rubber trim of passenger door, above trim above passenger footwell, spare cable tucked into net on passenger side of centre tunnel, then into cigar socket by gear lever. Simple to totally remove and temporarily install in another car when neccessary. Records speed, GPS position, vibration. Software allows viewing on laptop with zoomable map, graphs for speed, shocks etc. Thoroughly recommended.
  8. That's OK as long as you've got the right oil in the sump for variable servicing.
  9. So you probably still had about 10 litres in the tank, which would equate to the 95 miles first indicated. It could be a one off event but could be worth while keping an eye on the gauge when you next get into the last quarter tank.
  10. " however as soon as you got anywhere near a hill it shifted down to second," Now that is not something I have experienced in my 1.4 TSI 125HP manual Kodiaq. I suspect you had a fault in the DSG software.
  11. When you refuelled did you fill the tank? and if so, how many litres did you get in?
  12. OK, Can someone tell me if my Kodiaq 1.4TSI 2WD 123HP engine first registered April 2018 has a GPF? Sorry if the answer is obvious, but this old codger isn't up to all the technical stuff with modern cars. When SU carburretors with dash pots went out of use my brain got left behind!
  13. As earlier posts have said, my Bear (1.4TSI 125HP) does not have a sticker in the engine bay to say which oil to use. I have just been looking for 508.00 as specified in the manual but no stock in Halfords. There is so much confusion on this topic, amongst lots of people who seem to know what they are talking about, (and I am not one of those people), that I will hope that I don't need any top up oil before the first service in April 2019 and hope that my Skoda service Dept have sorted it all out by then. I was also looking for G13 Coolant in Halfords, but no joy on that either!!
  14. My 1.4 TSI SE spec has the lugs in the footwell.
  15. I took my mats out of my Superb and fitted them to the Kodiaq OK. Space between clips not exact, but can be made to fit. No problems after drivng like this for 5 months.
  16. In the olden days, when internal combustion engines were simple enough for me to understand and tinker with, the oil warning lights operated from a sensor which measured the oil pressure. When there was insufficient oil to maintain the required pressure the warning light came on. By that stage the actual oil level would be well below any of the marks on the dipstick. You seem to be saying that VW have "level" sensors rather than "pressure" sensors. Is this correct? I am not questioning your knowledge, just double checking that modern cars measure the oil "level" rather than the oil "pressure".
  17. No mention of a hot or cold engine there! Just "switch off the engine" so are we to assume from that that the engine is warm? As you say, a lot probably "lost in translation".
  18. Interesting difference in the videos! Check oil level with engine hot (US) or cold (UK?)
  19. With a bit of luck this Welsh idiot's details have been circulated throughout the insurance industry and he will be blacklisted before he is able to kill some innocent motorist or pedestrian.
