Okay - maybe those with the latest all-touch screens with integrated touchscreen buttons from MY18 onwards..

It's been in, they have run diagnostics and a software flash and.... ordered me a replacement screen. The car will have to go back to have the new screen fitted under warranty when the parts arrive, but maybe those with touch screens will want to look out for similar.

I have a 2018 Octavia SE with the standard infotainment touch screen with touchscreen buttons and smartlink (not sure if that makes it bolero, amundsen or whatever). I have noticed a little vertical line, about 2/3rds from the left, running through the screen of what I would deem to be dead pixels. It's mostly noticeable when it is displaying brighter hues - ie when displaying maps through the smartlink. Turning off/on doesn't make a difference, it's there in every mode (you can see it in radio station logos for example). I called in and showed my dealer when I was passing yesterday who agreed that I am not imagining things. I tried to photograph it but it just doesn't show it's so faint. So the car is booked in for investigation next week - they have to go through the full process as they have never seen that sort of fault before but the tech suggested that they will probably end up replacing the screen and dispatching the faulty unit back to Skoda for investigation. Watch this space. Not a good sign though - I've only had the car 4 months. As always, it's the techy intricate stuff that acts up first - all the mechanical stuff feels pretty bombproof so far.

I recognise much of what the OP says above. Mine is a 2.0 Tdi SE. I Dont Use voice recognition either but siri works fairly well with Carplay. Might have to get some of those LEDs for the boot and i Plan to install Osram Nightbreakers to replace Halogens before too long - But the OEM halogens are Still way better than other cars i have owned in the past. And what of torsion beam? Not bothered one bit - Ive changed from a Rapid and this is way more refined - Its like a proper grown up car!

I've done it before on other cars previously - just take the access lid off the back (so the damp air has an escape route), warm up the glass till completely clear, then refit the the lids. I'll see if they clear up of their own accord first though.

so my plan to go out armed with a hairdryer is a good one?

As per the topic, Ive noticed condensation on the inside of all 4 of the headlight units. Nothing significant, just noticeable misting. I picked the car up with delivery miles 10 days ago. I had the normal call back from the salesperson to see if everything was going well - and it generally is - I mentioned that the rear number plate is ever so slightly not level (I notice these things and it really, really bugs me) so he told me to call in when I'm next passing and there will be a new rear plate ready to screw on. I also mentioned the condensation in the headlights. He said that it was because they're new and sealed units, so there will be moisture in there and that normal use will clear it as the bulbs get warm etc. Whadya reckon everyone? I call BS. To the uninitiated those headlights will continue to mist up for months. I'll probably go out to the drive at the weekend with Mrs PerArdua's hairdryer and sort it out myself in about 5 minutes. Are misting headlight units an issue on Octys?

Sorry - I've tried this. My CC panel has a 'menu' button which I have pressed which brings up an impressive air distribution schematic display on the infotainment touch screen. There are menus and submenus here but the options and settings are limited to 'Auto' 'Manual (fan speed etc), 'Off' and 'Screen demist'. Alongside the usual temperature settings, there are no other options such as adjusting the sensitivity of the automatic function as was alluded to earlier.

- as an aside to the 'leave ac on all the time' comments - a few years back Mrs PerArdua acquired a brand new Fiat 500 - the leap back to being a 2-car household after a few years after her career break for babies. One lovely warm early spring day I was a passenger in said little Fiat with Mrs PerArdua driving and as I was getting warm I turned the ac on. "Why have you turned the winter mode on?" she asked. Presumably the snowflake symbol on the button had confused her - she just thought it was there to help demist in winter... Anyway - I recognize the question by the OP - I would like to have a feeling of the air moving around the cabin a bit more in auto mode. I've see the comments about the different sensitivities of the auto mode to be found in the setup menus, however I had a rummage around in the infotainment menus last night in my 2018 model year, post face-lift SE, and I can find no such setting. Am I looking in the right place?

Harry, I have just traded in my Rapid Hatchback Sport after 30 months of ownership from new. I have a young(ish) family - 2 children of primary school age. A Rapid Hatchback is a supremely capable family car. Mine caused me no problems whatsoever in the time I owned it. I've changed it only because my daughter found it hot and stuffy in winter so I have upgraded to something with climate control and better ventilation (ie actual vent outlets in the back seat) - mainly because I could and fancied a change - but there was fundamentally nothing wrong with my Rapid - I enjoyed owning it. The space in the Rapid Hatch - both in terms of boot and rear seat, is second to none at the price point, and the 1.2 Tsi is lovely to drive: plenty of poke and really economical. It cost me peanuts to run in 32000 miles. Fixed price servicing was a good idea (£15 a month for a minor and a major service). I just needed new tyres which cost a smidge over £100 for the pair. Brother in law has a 16 plate Astra Sri. They have 2 toddlers and always, always struggle to pack the car up for a weekend away because of buggies etc and have resigned themselves to an ugly roof box. There would be no such issue with a Rapid Hatchback IMHO and yet it is significantly cheaper than that Astra. I used to feel really quite smug on family holidays that I could just chuck all our kit for a week away in the boot without fuss and it'd still be rattling around! Another advantage is that the Rapid is quite narrow - so it's a doddle to park in Supermarkets, multistorey car parks etc. I hope they get something they like and fits their needs.

I didn’t pay attention to what tyres were fitted - black and round ones as far as I could tell... ;-) they were 16s though on pretty bland alloys - I can live with blandness as I can maybe lose a little kerb anxiety and I figured 205/55 r16 tyres will be pretty cheap to replace. i thought the ride was fine and then the salesman piped up that he realises that the tyres were still set to delivery 3.0 bar pressure! Still felt okay and not too crashy. I was more interested in ensuring her ladyship was comfortable in the back anyway!

I'll resurrect this old thread. I have been contemplating changing my Rapid. It's a great car and has been faultless and cheap to run, loads of space for all our kit for family holidays etc. I have however mentioned before my frustrations with the Cabin Air control system (manual ac in the Rapid Sport) which causes my daughter to kick up a terrible fuss because she is hot and stuffy in the back unless it's set to full cold - which in the depths of a cold, damp day is pretty uncomfortable for everyone else. So I want to upgrade to Auto Climate Control and get a few more bells and whistles. I got an invitation to a 'special VIP event' at the dealer I bought it from and after admiring a Karoq from afar I took the family in for a 'look but don't touch session' a week before the event. Well, so much for good intentions... (It is nearly my birthday) Anyway, long story short, got chatting with a very honest salesman and after a quick spin with darling daughter in the back, ended up signing up for a brand new, unregistered Octavia SE 150 Tdi 6G manual. They had 3 of the same colour in stock and wanted rid quick to make room apparently. It has plenty of goodies (all I ever need) and the new infotainment system (even the base Bolero one) is brilliant. Diesel will work as I am changing work location with a 60 mile round trip commute each day (rather than 18). Due to them knocking over £3k off the rrp, and then the retail PCP £3000 VW deposit offer on top (with 2 free services) AND a very good trade-in on the Rapid (pays to keep em clean!) - it's costing me nothing to change - with pretty much the same monthly payment. More space, more toys and a content daughter. (and a further 3 years warranty and no MOT). Once I sign, seal and collect, I'll mosey on over to the Octavia III threads... (if anyone is interested - they may have 2 more to shift?)

Reading through the thread, people on here are tying to be helpful to the OP and trying to explain that the LED bulbs would be illegal to use on the road. This is why noone has experience of them: because we are all law-abiding. For my own 2-pence worth. I live in a rural backwater (Norfolk and the fens) where road illumination is appalling and miss a pitch black turn and 'sploosh' - you're in a fen drain. But I digress. I installed Osram Nightbreakers and the improvement over OEM is startling. They give me much more confidence. Yes 30,000 miles and I'm on my second set and I reckon they're due to fail sometime soon, but I can forgive that for the improvement. Long story short: I don't need to break the law to see a massive improvement. And the fact that so many are driving around with these illegal bulbs is the reason I hate driving at night - I'm constantly dazzled by vehicles coming the other way. It might even be legal xenons that do it too - probably on older cars that are poorly maintained, people just don't seem to care until the day of the MOT test. It seems to have got much worse in the past 3 or 4 years.

yes to all of the above. Ac is always on regardless, recirculate off and I have a demister bag although I often forget to put it on the dash at night! The car doesn't feel particularly damp inside either. If I put my had in front of the dash-top vents for screen, with the blowers on full power, they have the power of a sparrow's f@rt in my opinion - always have. It's the only complaint I have with my Rapid - that the cabin ventilation system is dire. In my opinion its the only place the YGWYPF principal really manifests itself.

I have also noticed how long it takes to produce warm air - always has taken an age in this car. It doesn't have climate - 1.2 tsi 110. Clearing a fogged-up windscreen can take a frustratingly long time. I also have a problem that my daughter cannot bear hot cars, but this has now manifested in her watching the temperature control dial like a hawk - she complains if it is set to anything other than fully cold (even if it's 0 deg outside!)- however I try to explain when the windscreen is fogging up that I need the warm air - I can also feel that no warm air is being produced anyway for about the first 5-10 minutes. Most mornings I'm on my own and I've driven 8 miles or so before I can feel that the air is actually warm. I'll be interested to know if you do have a fault Chris!

Of course 'buyer beware' etc, however you are buying what is, in essence, a brand new car. Yes the salesman was probably testiculating wildly about 'transport mode' and the like so you wouldn't get scared and walk away from the potential sale (if you can prove s/he was being misleading, take it up with the manager as a customer service complaint) but remember you are protected by a 3 year manufacturer's warranty and by the sale of goods act. It should be delivered to you free from faults and errors. Remember that those of us who ordered our cars brand new from the factory never test drove the actual car we bought - they may have had all manner of hiccoughs when they rolled off the transporter at the dealerships - but we would never know because they would get sorted on the PDI.

So, the car goes to the repairers next week - when booking it in the garage told me to ensure the locking wheel nut key is given to them... so the scumbags had the locking wheel nut key away from the boot too. Told the insurers and the they said they'll change the locking nuts too as they are insecure (standard to change all locks after a theft apparently) and may even necessitate replacing the wheels too! i have a very small insurance excess and prettty good cover it would seem...

Would it not be a touch suspicious if someone was selling just the screen on fleabay or Facebook marketplace nearby?

The weird thing? The radio still plays and the Bluetooth phone still works - I can access all functions (except nav) via display in the instrument binnacle and via the stalk buttons. just proves how useless an item the screen is on it's own.

Strangely, no damage. Could swear I locked it as I habitually do but they is no sign that they forced their way in. its been dusted for prints but they only found a glove mark. we soon realised the cheeky scumbag has stolen my grip gloves that I keep with the spare wheel and clearly decided to use them for the rest of the burglary. fuming.

Happened on the driveway and by logbook I do mean the service schedule and owners manual only. police coming shortly to take description of property - apparently some scumbag was arrested near by last night for a similar crime and they want to search his/her address.

Scumbags went to the car this morning only to find a gaping hole where the Amundsen used to be. They've also had the log book and owners manual away along with a DABmotion DIgital radio box from under the driver's seat. They had a good rummage it the boot too and took some spare headlight bulbs, but left the wheel and jack. called police, insurance etc. Not a great way to spend a day in the summer holidays. im watching Facebook marketplace and eBay. Watch out for great offers on (stolen) head units!

I'd love to go with all season or cross climates - especially as my daily commute is in deepest darkest Norfolk (although the past couple of winters have not been a problem). Cant seem to find crossclimates or reasonable all season tyres for 215 40 R17 though.
