  1. Hrm, I did have a peek for it, but couldn't see it. The CD will still be years out of date as IIRC they stopped them around 2008?
  2. I rather think that's the route I'll be taking. Just can't justify £400+ on a columbus!
  3. I've installed a few alarms in my time, I prefer Honeywell Galaxy systems, which the newer Dimension Series are "Hybrid" systems if you add the right stuff so you can mix wireless and wired sensors. They also feature zone expanders which are handy as you run a data bus to them and then can run a number of zones from there. So for example your downstairs zones run back to the panel, then you have a data line run to the front door for a keypad, and run the other way to the attic for your upstairs zones and/or then back down to the garage/back door for another keypad of garage zones. You can pickup ADT boxes on eBay cheaply and with one of those on your property, most criminals will go elsewhere. There is also a ethernet self-monitoring service www.selfmon.co.uk which is £1 a month minimum (you get charged for texts/voice calls for alarms, but not for email alerts). If anyone wants more info, feel free to ask. It's easy to install if you're reasonably technically minded.
  4. Hrm, sounds like double the cost of a Sony unit sadly! Annoying really that this doesn't do any USB. It has Aux audio and an Aux A/V, but they're not installed (plug in cable job if I wanted them), but that's pants as I have to connect things.
  5. How much are the Columbus units going for these days? Do they take a USB key for playing music from?
  6. Hi All, New Octavia Owner here - looking for some advice! My 06 Octavia has the Nexus satnav fitted. But sadly no sat-nav cd, nor any aux input (3.5mm jack) that I can find. So my research has found a CD for £30, and a USB/Aux interface for around £80. But is it worth it? The cheap usb interface doesnt pass id3 data, nor have any phone support. I've not looked to see what a bluetooth upgrade would be. Or I coukd ditch the Nexus and install a Sony Double DIN unit that holds my phone for £160 + £60 for the facia/steering controls kit. My Android phone has decent enough nav these days. What have you guys & gals done? Any advice would be appreciated! (Also posted this in the Octavia II forum here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/370610-audio-question/)
  7. I prefer "Your Skid Ends Here" Been rear ended a few times and just gotten out, looked at the mangled front end and gone "That was silly, wasn't it?" before leaving them to it. Saves them a claim on their insurance anyway! Still the Octavia will be my commuting vehicle, with the Disco for weekend fun

  9. Hi All, Just bought myself a 56 plate Octavia Mk2 this weekend. Really pleased thus far, I've gone for the 2.0 TDI PD DSG Laurin & Klement with Sat Nav. Im a fairly experienced home mechanic, IT geek by trade, so looking forward to tinkering. My other cars include a Discovery TD5 Auto from 1999 which has been my daily drive for a few years and I've just clocked up 100k in it (190k total). The disco has been heavily modified and tinkered with. I also have a Ford Focus TDDI from 2001 which I bought for my partner to learn on and is now her car mainly. I'm planning a new workshop in 2017, hopefully with a 4 post lift also! I'm planning on getting VCDS to sid things, as my Hawkeye doesn't cover VAG cars. Anyways, thats enough for now, I have some Qs but this isn't the place! Alex.
