  1. hi guys...wow..ok...the garage told us today the car is ready to be picked up, theres nothing more they can do....after all they have done and checked we were told 'NO CHARGE'...all they want is that should we ever find the problem we let them know, what is was and how it was fixed, this was a family owned vw garage that has been running for many years....the coolant has been checked as has oil, water, fuel, we did not run out of fuel, i am disabled so believe me when i say we never , ever run out of fuel, or put the wrong fuel in, having spoken to my husband in depth on the subject of the skoda, he informed me that the temp light is not on when the car starts but comes on when the thing dies, oh and the sensor in the coolant has also been cleaned and checked......please keep the suggestions coming, they are really appreciated...xx
  2. the fault reader at first was the breakdown man obd reader but the garage did a proper one, both faults were the same and when the garage checked the history of faults that was the only one, just cant understand it, we all know there is a fault somewhere but no-one not even the vw garage can find it, and until the crankshaft sensor was changed we didnt have the temp light come on...so frustrating..thank you for your suggestions..x
  3. please excuse the essay but the more info i give the more chance there is of someone being able to help.......we have an 08 skoda octavia elegance 1.9 tdi estate, we were going round a very busy roundabout and it died, would not start, we were pushed off the roundabout and called the breakdown, my husband is an engineer so half an hour later whilst waiting he tried to start it and behold it did..turned off the engine after a few minutes and tried again, no start, breakdown came, he connected the fault thingy and it said sensor, as he was a mechanic we believed him when he said it was the crankshaft sensor but he said to make sure drive it down the road and call me when it dies...we did , it did and we called...towed home...took it to our local garage which is a vw specialist , he changed the sensor checked on the fault thingy, no faults and dropped it off..husband went out and it wouldnt start and the temp light had come on, it hadnt been on before at any time, garage picked it up, checked the fault thingy, no faults...sent the ecu away for checking, came back good, changed the glow plugs and the coolant temp. sensor, garage believed it was fixed, took it for a drive and it died...the problem is still there and now the garage has decided they dont know whats wrong so cant fix it...still no fault codes showing...temp light still on...car still dies when it gets hot....does anyone have any ideas that havent been tried, we have been without this car for weeks now, i have trawled the net for answers without success, someone please help...xx
  4. we have a 2000 skoda octavia 1.9 diesel estate and upon starting the car up it was noticed that the battery light kept flashing on and off, my husband whos an engineer has tested the battery with a battery tester, thats good, its at 12v, but when he starts the engine it goes down to 10.5v..and he cant understand why, can anyone who maybe has had the same problem help...xx
  5. it turns over but will not start, we'd wait 5 minutes or so and it will be fine, but the last time i would go even after half an hour....my husband then after thinking about it....connected the battery with a bit of wire to the solenoid and it starts every time and if you take he wire off it still doesnt start...we need to know why this is happening please
  6. ok a little more in our skoda saga...its a year 2000 1.9 diesel estate a mk 1 i believe ....for a long time now it has started without a problem then we'd stop and it wouldnt start again for about 5 minutes so we'd sit and wait, then it would start no problem, a few weeks ago it wouldnt start again even half an hour and we ended up being towed home...hubby is an engineer and used to solving problems so he attached a wire from the battery to the solenoid and it starts every time but as soon as he takes the wire off it will not start....does anyone have an idea why or whats happening,..... i have searched the net and cannot find anything and its so frustrating, i really need some help and maybe one of you skoda experts might know..xx
