  1. So glad I'm not going mad. Wasn't even sure what to search for - put in "fuel tank sloshing" and got this thread. Have got fairly full tank and can hear it - will listen out when nearly empty. Mine is FL TDI hatch.
  2. I too had this dilemma. Had my 56 plate vRS from new and did 146000 miles. Looked at Golf GTD and Leon FR - way too expensive. Have now got the diesel Octy vRS. Really miss the Fabia (there were tears when I traded it in) but needed a change. Am pleased with the Octavia but it's not as fun as the Fabia ( a bit more middle-aged!) and certainly doesn't have the punch from standing start!
  3. Spent most of my late teenage/ early 20's in rock clubs of Merseyside/ N. Wales/ Manchester (Stairways - Birkenhead/ Krazy House - Liverpool/ Tivoli - Buckley) then at Uni in Glasgow saw quite a few bands at the Barrowlands. In my past seen Cult/ Faith No More/ Pantera/ Little Angels/ Aerosmith/ GnR/ Def Leppard/ INXS/ Thunder.. Then turned into a bit of a shoe-gazing indie kid
  4. First meet for me so would like to meet some locals!
  5. Morning, Anyone got a recommendation for dent repairs in the Huntingdon (home) or Hitchin (work) areas? Someone whacked my car with their door in a carpark yesterday (and didn't leave a note!!) so need a dent taking out and a bit of a paint repair. Thanks.
  6. Am in Huntingdon area so P'Boro not too far away - count me in!
  7. I actually suspect that it is not type approved for towing. Classing it as illegal for attaching a bike carrier sounds a touch extreme. A bike rack won't fall off this, they're much better off the towbar than anywhere else. I have the most fantastic carrier for 2 bikes on a towbar - it's just a shame neither Sciencebird's or my cars (sorry it's FranV8) have towbars to fit it! I would have thought the reason for type approval issues on the vRS would be somewhere around rear suspension settings and ride height.
  8. Currently 30 miles down the A1 to Hitchin. Moving further north soon so will be 40. Am dreading putting 400 miles a week on the car but hey that's why I got the VRS - a joy to commute in! Going to be a shock to the other half (not cos we're moving in together!! ) but he will have to drive 20 miles instead of walking over the road to work! My journey time fluctuates for no real reason, although school holidays make things much easier. Have to allow 1h 15 for hold ups.
  9. Thought I recognised it - my folks live out there (just outside Paphos) so we drive past it quite a lot. Off there to see them tomorrow - very excited!!
  10. auroan - was your second piccie taken in Cyprus? Looks like a place in Paphos!
  11. The site is quite slow - guess lots of people are sat at their desks playing on the last day at work!! Here's mine - "elf-bird"....good oppurtunity for us to laugh at ourselves!! http://www.elfyourself.com/?userid=77974ea5b25a03e04801717G06122204
  12. Mine's the 28th Dec. Which is good cos I am always off work. Never really had the joint pressie thing - M&D always pretty good about that. Mates are just never up for going out as they are tired from Christmas and gearing up ready for New Year.
  13. FANTASTIC!! Particularly like the "holding ankle" move -very cool. Definitely feeling Christmasy now. Thanks elf boy!!
  14. ...a** with their fog lights on. Is it foggy?? No!! Obviously the culprit tonight was subjected to full vRS power
  15. EOS 350D - don't mess about. Then you can get a second hand EOS lense for not a lot with a lot of zoom, 70-300mm is a touch soft (easily less than £70-80 s/h), or a better (optical quality) is the 100-300mm, old lens but even less money. I've got the former, but also bought a Vivitar Series One 100-400mm for £84. despite the dodgy stateside reviews (they all buy the top L series stuff), the AP review at the time rated this lens well. And on a 350D it's equivalent to 160-640mm. So, go with the previosu posts on s/h gear in AP, well worth the trouble. And good luck! (Sorry it's Franv8 again - danger of just jumping on quick reply)
  16. Took FranV8 to see it this afternoon. The last Bond film I saw at the Ciinema was The Living Daylights - showing my age now!! Am not usually a fan but really enjoyed this one (not swayed by Mr Craig being in it whatsoever!). Nice to see some good action without tons of special effects - good on him for doing most of the stunts himself. Great Aston Martin - and Skodas, obviously! Not just a blokes film- good for the girlies too.
  17. ... so apologies for being thick!! Got a Fabia VRS. Is the gear **** meant to rattle when idling in neutral?? Once you move it slightly it stops. Does anything need adjusting or is this the norm??
  18. ...is rubbish!! Off sick with a stinking cold and actually wish I was back at work. Only light relief from the "consolidate your debts into one easy payments..." adverts was Knightrider!! Think my brain may turn to mush soon, hoping for a quick recovery.
  19. Oops - sorry its FranV8 - accidentally using Sciencebirds login on her PC (Sorry hun! Xx)
  20. Yes, they on't officially licence the EF (or EF-S) mount from Canon, so they reverse engineer it. I was looking at a Sigma 300mm (non zoom) F4 APO lens for my EOS 350D, but they don't work with any of the digital cameras properly (aperture fixed wide open), Sigma will rechip lenses for free for a time, but after a few years of a particular lens, they stop offering this as they use up their chips. If you're buying a new Sigma now and not looking at updating your Canon body for a while then they are still worthwhile, if this concerns you though, you may want to go for one of the safer manufacturers who do license the mount. Or Canon (but I think their optics on their budget lenses are just that, budget, speaking from experience of the 18-55 and a slightly soft 75-300)
  21. Depends on my mood: Was listening to the best of the Cult this weekend - classic!! Greenday, Cast, Kasabian, Cheesy 80s hits and Franz Ferdinand on rotation at the mo. Otherwise it's Radio 2 - I know, sad! I can confess to laughing til I cry at Terry sometimes in the morning - particularly Janet & John stories!
  22. Don't get me started on CSI....sooo addictive despite the glaringly inaccurate and down right ridiculous science (as you may guess by the user name I have "ologies"). The most outrageous episode so far is managing to look at grainy CCTV footage, see a piece of paper and find and decode a 2D barcode - amaaazing!! Do the Americans actually believe this is how forensic science works?? And yet I find myself staying up for just another episode until way past my bed time!!
  23. Any suggestions for products to clean the interior? Particularly dash area and steering wheel. Dealer did the Autoglym thing for when I picked it up but a few solvent marks still on the steering wheel. Recommendations please..
  24. Got the new Kasabian album - still trying to get into it, hard to beat the last one which was fantastic! The Feeling and Kooks are great too. Went to see The Charlatans at UEA a few months ago, The Feeling were meant to support but cancelled due to illness - gutted!! Charlatans were fab though - don't make 'em like they used to!! (still stuck in my "shoe-gazing" 90's days!! ).
  25. From Sciencebird's car: Xenons - expensive but brilliant, plus imho makes the car look a lot more expensive at night! Heated seats - depends if you like them, so far we've just used them to sneakily switch on the other's when they're not looking and see how long it takes them to notice... (but it's not cold outside yet) Cruise - BUY THIS !! It makes long journeys so much more relaxed. ESP - I had heard the standard traction is a little harsh on removing power when it's slippy, I gave a little too much pedal turning into a T junction and apart from the light on the dash, it was virtually imperceptiable. Despite claims we all have of being a good driver, none of us know when we're going to end up on some spilt diesel, or when (as I read in a post on here months ago) you need to lean on it while performaing an avoiding maneouver of some idiot oncoming motorist. It's pricey so whatever you think really. Well, that's my 2p worth - I'll shut up now! (oops - posted under Sciencebird's login - sorry it's FranV8...)
