Front Spring has snapped.....
Good evening to you wise and knowledgeable people. After 20 yrs my Red Shed Vrs Estate has finally snapped a front spring whilst parked. My question is.. Which of the multitude of suppliers and manufacturers would you choose...?? I have the OEM part No. 1J0411105AJ. Also I am contemplating replacing the rear springs at the same time, but believe finding the correct spring rate is a PITA, do you have any advice on these too.... Cheers

Rear Wiper Motor on vRS Estate
There is never a stupid question because sometimes the simplest things are missed... I have had all the fuses out and they are fine, when I check for current at the connector there is power.. More investigation is needed.....

Rear Wiper Motor on vRS Estate
I shall have another look there, I had the usual indoor pool in that corner from the crappy washer pipe joint, and a leak from the bolts that hold the CD changer, which 12 months later is still dry as a bone.. which with an 18 year old car is a win... Thanks

Rear Wiper Motor on vRS Estate
I am looking for a little advice from you all knowing Mk1 Gurus. My rear wiper motor became sporadic then eventually died. I checked the wiring and voltage at the connector which gives me the required 12v etc. I got hold of a second hand motor which I was assured worked before being removed from the car (yes I know, not everyone is honest !!!). I have changed them over and still no joy. Now before I return the motor is there anything else that could be causing the issue. I know the wiper is not supposed to operate when the tailgate is open ( or did I imagine that) so must be connected to the boot lock mechanism. My interior boot lights have stopped working and also the power outlet too. Could this be part of the wiper motor problem..?? Any advice is welcome...

Loss of power midrange
I had a similar issue with a 1.8t(AUQ) and it turned out to be a faulty spark plug - the issue only showed up when the engine was under load.

When you say seized, is it the slide pins that aren't moving or the piston inside the caliper..??

Leak in boot - 2003 Octavia
Just to add to the recurring theme of sieve-like Mk1 Octavia's. I too had the paddling pool under the CD changer in my 2003 Estate, stripped all the boot panels out today dropped the headlining to check the roof bar bolts and gave it a damn good hosing. Turns out I had 2 leaks the first being the LHS tailgate shock mount, which needed sealing and tightening up, and the 2nd was only visible once the CD changer was removed. It was the bolts that hold the CD cradle to the body, water was coming in through the bolt holes. More sealant and a tighten and its seems to have solved the issue...for now - because we know there is bound to be another one soon....!!!!
