  1. @BATVANVRS Kudos for all the useful information you have given. Very interesting. Wonder what sort of 'popping' you get with a manual gearbox? Thanks again.
  2. @BATVANVRS Thanks for the update. Sounds good. Like you I would want the option to make it noisey, and switch it off on a motorway cruise. Does it sound any more invasive in the cabin than standard when the value is closed? Cheeky question, but how much did it cost you including the fitting? Cheers
  3. Have you had it fitted now? If so, what are your thoughts? Some videos would be cool? Cheers
  4. Yes the maps and POI show on the car screen. Think there is an Android alternative.
  5. Navigation works surprisingly well using Siri (as long as you have a decent signal). Plugs in to the normal USB socket. Not used the navigation enough to fully understand its flaws and faults. Only annoying thing with the music is that it will often forget where you were in a song on your next journey.
  6. My car is on finance, so my contract is between the finance company (in this case VW) and myself not the dealer who sold me the car, hence why I was dealing with VW Finance directly. They paid for the CarPlay as a gesture of good will after I had had so much hassle going to and from the dealer for them to try and fix the problem. They swapped nearly every component to try and fix the issue but couldn't find the cause. Their argument was that they don't specifically state that the usb connection will support an ipod. My point was that when I asked the sales rep whilst test driving the car whether it would connect to an iPod, he said it would (and iPod connectivity was a major feature we wanted in our new car, hence why I kicked up such a fuss about it). I also argued saying that there was no other owner (at the time on the forums) with similar problems, so it must be a fault with my car.
  7. It happened to me on any iphone / ipod I tried. After 8 months of going backwards and forwards VW Finance resolved it by installing Apple CarPlay on my car. That won't help you with the ipod classic, but works perfectly with my iPhone (or anything running iOS i guess). Is it worth £130 for CarPlay. Not really, although music doesn't skip anymore, so from that point of view, then yes.
  8. Dealer still can't fix this issue. Been back 7 times so far. Enough is enough. Making enquiries on what my 'rights' are re having a faulty car from new.
  9. It's a 'stutter' which happens randomly several times per song, which gets very irritating after a while. It isn't the audio cutting out, the track just stops and starts (literally for a fraction of a second), but it is enough to become an annoyance. Car in for a software update in the next few days. Hopefully that will cure it. :wonder:
  10. That what I use and have problems (although my Infotainment unit is the standard system). :|
  11. Thanks everyone so far for your setup. Interesting about using the SD card slot. Presumably you don't get album art, and you can't setup playlists etc from your iTunes? Not heard of these MDI sockets. I'm guessing at one point a USB socket wasn't a standard feature? My usb connection is still playing up when connecting my iPod to it. The dealer didn't seem that confident they would be able to do anything about it. Based on feedback from the forum and me trying my iPod/usb combo in another Skoda without issue, I'm not really happy about it as it is clearly a car fault. Being able to connect an iPod to the car was a main feature I wanted in a new car, and in mine it is dropping out constantly which is most irritating. Anyone have any advice on how to launch a complaint to Skoda to get this fixed, and how likely they are to take any action??
  12. No takers on the iPod + usb combo yet then?
  13. Started this topic as I am interested to know if I'm the minority regarding how I use the media function of the car. I connect an iPod via USB cable to stream the music. Is this method how most listen to their music, or is it streaming over Bluetooth from your phone? Be interested if anyone has had issues with the playback.
  14. Maybe you should invest in a powermagic pro? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00LN2BZL2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_uxqGwbJSSN9AA
  15. Identical to my car! I personally think it is the best colour on this car, with the standard alloys complementing the body colour. I was worried that I hadn't spec'd the Canton (and tried in vein to add it to my build), but I shouldn't have worried. The sound is awesome, good bass and treble. I think it depends where you're coming from to how you'll perceive the quality. I was from a fiesta so it sounds significantly better than that. If you're use to a top spec Audi or Lexus then you may be slightly disappointed. I may now have wished for leather seats, sat nav and a camera, but didn't really want to spend thousands on extras for a car like this. Was disappointed I don't have a shark fin aerial on the roof too! Car feels proper rapid though when overtaking! I had a mk1 Focus RS when they were first released, and use to drive it like I'd stolen it. I thought I had mellowed since having only my wife's fiesta to drive, and was convinced I would only use the extra performance in the VRS on the odd occasion I want to overtake something. However, now I have the VRS, I feel the need to overtake everything in my path. MPG was low for what I thought it would deliver. Do a lot of short trips and trip computer says 31mpg. In the end I decided to enjoy the car and not worry about the fuel. Judge the car by 'Smiles per gallon'!
