  1. I have covered about 14k since owning the vehicle. When I purchased the trip indicated an average of 45mpg over the previous 2000 miles. I will give the MAF a clean up for sure. Tyre pressures are all fine, they are checked every Saturday. Breaks are a possibility. The EGR is deleted although I noticed that the lower intercooler pipe is caked in oil - so was planning to get all the pipes off and give them a clean as well as the intercooler. Could this be a contributing factor? As i say. Its never really bothered me the low mileage. But as weve done quite a few long journeys lately its just bugged me.
  2. Howdy folks. Cars sat on 68k, serviced every 5k miles since new.. last service was 200 miles ago. Around town it sits at 37mpg, on a long journey it can return 42-45mpg. This isnt trip, this is manual calculation. Car has been scanned and returned no fault codes. No smoke apart from a bit on start-up. As far as mods go to the car, it is on 17" Ronal alloys. But I wouldn't of thought this would be the cause. Possibly: MAF? Thought this would throw a fault code? Faulty injectors? Anyway to test this? I know a lot can be down to drivint style, but i have tried a mix of driving styles over the past 10k miles and its never changed. Any ideas?
  3. Top man Wino. Seen a few conflicting theads with regard to the hub nut.. upon removal should the driveshaft come out freely.. seen threads talking about copper hammer taps and removal tool. Cheers
  4. Are they reuseable and is there a torque value? Cant seem to find one. With it being a later model, it'll be fitted eith the 36mm 12 point hub nut I presume? Which will need to be replaced? Is TPS best place to search?
  5. Hi there guys. Car has been sat over Winter over at my mothers.. Been abusing a little Corsa Anyway, noticed the subframe was a bit greasy and upon further inspection notice that the Inner CV Joints are both knackered. Cant find much on the forums in the way of guides/tips for the inner CV Joint. I presume from a few videos I have watched that it is easier to remove the Driveshaft as opposed to replacing in situ? So loosen centre spindle/nut, ball joint out, rotate wheel to one side, slide out outer CV/shaft - lost when it comes to the inner! Any input is appreciated! I think its just 6 M14 Spline bolts that keep it in place?
  6. Afternoon all! Had a wierd problem start! Got in the car Sunday to pop to the shops. Key in, knocked the blowers on and turned the key - nothing.. no starter engagement at all. Lights didnt dim. Few turns of the key on and off and on about the fifth try, she started.Rest of the day, on and off without a problem. Out to her Monday morning 5am, no start again.. same story, 5 or 6 times on and off and it started, no problems for the rest of the day.Tuesday morning it started first time, but thinking back i literally got in the car and turned the key straight away, no ignition on etc. This morning was a bit harder - a good 15 times before it would start.Quick search suggests the wire under the battery tray, but i thought the problem would be constant, not just first thing in the morning and then fine the rest of the day?Or Starter? Possibility of it being the battery? Edit - quick think back last week car was sat for a couple days and she felt a bit weak on the start-up but got going..
  7. So after tackling that, it was time for the service. Old air filter was pretty mucky! Then the rear breaks. They were jammed on pretty tight, but managed to get them off in the end.. misunderstood when I first attempted it that the carriers needed to come off - but managed it all fine this time. One side was particularly bad with a decent lip forming in them.. this was the side that the buckled rim was on when I bought the car! Last but not least, as it's our wedding anniversary tomorrow and we're due out for a meal tonight- anymore time on the car and the wife would of killed me. Managed to pick this up a few weeks back. So gave the car a quick wash. The paintwork situation is still getting me down, and I will be sending a nice collaborative selection of photographs and statements and links to these forums to SkodaUK. But in the meantime - I'll be going about getting quotes for a respray. I managed to get one the other day. Replacement of sills, treatment of the section where the bumper meets the bodywork and a full respray - £1800 + VAT and that's with someone whose work I know.. All in all a good day. The tapping went away after the service.. so not sure whether it's short journey related etc.. Only downside is the spoiler has had a fit and decided to shed it's lacquer big time! 8. So it's been a little while since I posted an update.. my wife gave birth to our second child on the 20th May.. and with lots of complications before and after, the car has just been a work horse this past 2 months.. It was smack bang due on its service, desperately needed me to tackle the rear breaks, and needed some TLC. So I decided to head to my Moms as she has a paddock as opposed to my public road. Arrived with my boots full of goodies! The first job I wanted to do was take the Rocker Cover off and get some pictures of the camtaken.. I stupidly didn't take photos of the cam in multiple positions.. Some of the lobes look marked. Wasn't comfortable attempting to rotate the cam manually - so sorry that all the lobes aren't present in the pictures. Some of the marking. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

  11. Great stuff.. ! That's where I get a bit lost! :-)
  12. I've got a good stock of the AG Super Resin Polish.. and was going to give that a go this weekend. I saw the multitude of waxes on offer, and got lost with what was best! I'm not too fussed about time scale or durability.. I enjoy some hard work, something that would last for 3/4 months would be fine.. Would a sealant be best after waxing?
  13. Evening folks. Just got myself a decent pressure washer after using our local fuel stations for the past few months! Sick of paying £3.50 for splashing the car and not getting it clean properly! Alas - it's now a thing of the past. I'm going to experiment with some snow foams and some different shampoos. In the future, I'm hoping to invest in a DA, until then however, there are some real light swirl marks all over the car, and the paintwork has no protection on - so it's time to put some muscle into giving her a real good detail. Is there any products that are good for hand-polishing that you guys would recommend? And is there any specific products that work well with the Skoda Race Blue? I love the deep gloss wet look! I'm aware that'll take some work with just the arms, but want to do something before I get a DA ordered in Autumn/Winter. Thanks folks!
  14. That's one beautiful car, and a stunning colour!
  15. Was that OBR Kev? I'm glad they're doing something for someone Kellaway! It really miffed me how the assessor was surprised at the sill corrosion and spent extra time looking at them to find damage - couldn't find any and then comes back with this. It's clear his report to Skoda UK was contrary to what he said to me. I specifically mentioned that I could accept that stone chips around the arches could cause some of the corrosion - but I wasn't convinced this was possible from stone chips on the sills.. this would mean that every 9 year old car should have these issues, but they don't? When I mentioned that I was in contact with people who have similar issues around the same registration (07/57), he told me that Skoda keep track of all owners forums and social media and investigate issues if enough of the owners raise them - as they don't appreciate bad publicity. With regard to giving up - I am going to get as many details photos as I can, get a decently written letter drawn up - and I'm going to get an independent assessment carried out which has been offered for free by a company local to me as they're doing it alongside a quotation for the work. If the assessment proves what I think - I'll get it sent over to Skoda UK and see what's what. But I also can't spent the next few months fannying around back and to when it needs sorting and I want it sorted as well!
  16. Be good to get a few quotes under my belt to make the best decision really.. Getting some new sills in and the rear panel patched is the priority for now really!Recommend anywhere Kev?
  17. Saw a fella on the Octavia Facebook page have both sills cut out and replaced, arches patched and some spoiler work and I think he mentioned £500 odd.. I'm wondering how much a full respray would cost! Do you know whether Furrows would take this work on?
  18. Had a snotty email from Skoda UK today to inform me that they won't be pursuing the warranty work.-Sills; apparently there is clear evidence that the sills have been damaged and therefore the corrosion has spread from these areas. In the 'pictures', there is areas where the paintwork is clearly chipped/damaged. I've been out and under the car and the area they are talking about is where the corrosion is coming up from underneath and starting to affect the paintwork you can see from the side. No sign of ANY damage from underneath which is what was commented on the day by the assessor. -Lacquer on the spoiler - isn't corrosion, so flat out not covered. -Spot on the read bumper - apparently from the 'pictures', they can see there is a colour difference from the rear bumper to the bodywork.. and therefore it's there opinion it's previously been repaired and when putting the rear bumper back on its damaged the lacquer and caused the start of the corrosion.. I asked whether this was backed up by paint depth readings and they said they weren't allowed to comment. I'm pretty miffed to be honest but I can't say I didn't expect it. Didn't help the car was filthy by the time I got there for the assessment. Off to get some quotations for some new sills and a respray!
  19. No update from them really. I had an email last week to request some more pictures of a couple of areas. In the meantime I have had a small patch on the spoiler bubble up. Nothing major but have stuck it on the claim as can't seem them 'stone chipping' the spoiler excuse. Was gonna pop a call in the morning and just chase up. I didn't pay attention to the depths! He said they take it to identify whether it's had a bump or what have you. I'll keep this updated when I know anything, need them to sort it sharpish really otherwise I'm going to pay to get it done myself with new sills. If anyone follows the Octavia and Fabia pages - there's a fair few more Octavias popping up from 07/57 with these issues.. I did mention to Skoda that a lot of owners are having these issues. He said that Skoda frequent owners forums and like to investigate owners complaints.. can't see it myself.
  20. Yea spot on Hutchy! Exactly the same as mine.. glad you managed to get it recorded better than me! Lol. Mines the same- take it for a good Italian tune up and she's fine..
  21. I went to see whether my local dealership had a Rocker Cover gasket this morning as it was by the shops! Was without the family, so as it was a nice day, and the main roads were busy - I took the back roads back and had a blast coming back. Engine sounds sweet now and the Ticking hasn't been present for a few journeys now.. Still going to inspect the cam.. gives me an idea for the future of the condition then. These cars do put a smile on your face!
  22. I took the video and thought - brill I can hear it.. now it's uploaded I can't notice it? Lol.. ah well. Rocker cover should be here Tuesday and I'll get it off Wednesday and take some pictures.
