  1. would be even better if skoda would contribute to the remedy for this known issue too!
  2. I'd definitely say test drive both the manual and DSG to see how they compare and then amother comparison against petrol & diesel... (as for DSG and my biased review, that's purely due to lifestye and an injury where a manual is too troublesome with my back and foot especially in stop start traffic) on paper the DSG is a fraction quicker...goes to show how well the gearbox manages quick gear changes... it is a lot of fun for a roomy and practical family hatchback..and the boot is huge
  3. just make sure they installed the indicators correctly..they have a habit of not working at all...
  4. million dollar question...depends on what you want!... I have the DSG... one of the best gearboxes around in my opinion... double clutch with pretty much instant gear changes...they are not without fault though... so make sure if you do go for one its been looked after and had the necessary oil changes... I wouldn't have a manual now... the DSG also comes with multi function steering wheel with paddle shift... standard manuals come with pretty much a bog standard wheel with no audio controls etc.. very fun to drive and respectable mpg figures for a 200 bhp car.. the petrol version is again not without fault... tsome have been known to have pretty catastrophic engine failures.. all to do with the timing chain and tensioner..again.. not a show stopper but something to be aware of.. a 2012 model would likely have the new parts fitted.. but if not.. factor in 400-600 for the parts... obviously more press about it on here as its a forum and typically you will see more problems on them as owners join to rectify problems ask for advice etc.. as for diesel.. do you need diesel?... driving style, commute..annual mileage..etc etc.. My last 3 cars have been diesel.. but low mileage driving and short trips didn't make it cost effective with the higher initial outlay.. so decided to go back to petrol.. yes I visit the pumps a little more often...but not so much that its an issue between fill ups and easily see 40-44 mpg on a run... not so much round town..maybe 30-32mpg... but saying that my diesels before this weren't too dissimilar round town....
  5. Buy it back with a huge loyalty discount... new warranty..new engine (with revised tensioner etc)
  6. Would also be good if they can source you a skoda approved vehicle for the same price with a few sweeteners thrown in ! (that is if you are looking for another octavia)
  7. I did this once in my Vectra C... while visiting parents 180 miles away... Was told to smash the window... but I couldn't put myself through it and replace the tinted windows.. So I got on the train.. 4 hours later..collected my key from a neighbour who drove it to the station.. and got on the next train back to my parents..(needed the car so couldn't courier/special deliver the spare the next day)
  8. Considered wrapping them? There is a place nr swindon that do wraps..where I had my grill done and can highly recommend them..
  9. The RS3's are surprisingly cheap... I got my last RS2's online with Camskill and got them fitted locally..and will probably give the 3's a try in the next couple of months as I'm below 2mm now.. try Camskill for tyres if you've not already... but do your homework for delivery and local fitting as a local tyre garage may have offers on..
  10. £60 in my eyes it was what I was comfortable paying..spraying was a lot more expensive for someone with a bit of DIY knack and the right tools and patience it may well be an easy mod to do.. I was looking at painting it... but saw a local company who wrap and do tints etc... and they said they would also give me a better price for the tints than advertised for the repeat business..so I'm happy both ways..
  11. Ha, nope. I cheated and paid a company to do it. I haven't got the patience or skill to do stuff like that.
  12. proper made up with my new grill.. totally transforms the front of the car. I was never fond of the chrome grill and the new carbon wrap totally transforms the look. Next on the list is window tints
  13. Yaaaaay!! Its back!! 2 days short of 4 weeks.. finally I can say good bye to the Insignia hire car... well its all fixed.. bar the little car pass holder that still isn't flush against the screen but I guess I'm going to have to live with that! god knows what they have used to 'valet' the car afterwards but the interior looked as though it had been wiped down with a cloth with car polish as there were wet cloth marks everywhere and the plastics and vinyls were so dry it was untrue.. The leather was really dry too..looked as though it had been baked in the sun it was that dry... Just spent a good hour or two out in the sunshine treating the leather with rejuvenate stuff and Armorall for the interior (all I had until I get a new detailing order in) It'll do for a week or two but I need to get the machine polisher out and do the rest of the car..and then a few weeks (once the pillars have cured) Ill do the upper pillars and roof..
  14. I'm going to get it carbon effect wrapped. It's a black car so it'll be subtle and slightly different to all black.. I do want to get the grill pin striped.. A bit like the BMW stripes in the M series you sometimes see.. Just to add a flash of colour.
  15. I'd still manage to F**k it up! I honestly would!! Id rather pay someone...whether a fellow member, or garage to do it..
