  1. rack is only leaking a little into the steering angle sensor housing so cant be be seen until you remove the sensor , to be fair overall the car has been pretty reliable apart from the steering issues and with hindsight i wouldn't buy a recon rack again on a positive note went to a local breakers and they had a 2002 polo breaking so thought id see if steering angle sensor was same as mine although it was a petrol model and although not easy to get off in a muddy scrapyard it turned out to be the correct one unbelievably so was worth the effort ! fitted to my fabia and works as it should and warning light is out ! so will put it in for mot and see what happens but at least steering is sorted for now but i am concerned about oil /fluid from the rack ruining this sensor too ,im wondering if anyone knows if the rack on a 2002 polo is the same as my 2002 fabia ? they look the same and i presume the racks on petrol and diesels are the same part regardless of engine size ?
  2. thanks to all that have replied , i have tried all the suggestions but no luck as yet , im somewhat confused about the part numbers and the thinking 6Q1 would be left hand drive and 6Q2 right, as all the ones available after market in uk on ebay are 6Q1 so that would mean they are all for left hand drive ? have i just been unlucky with the steering issues with my fabia ( rack failed replaced with recon which failed after 3 years ,replaced with another recon which now seems to be leaking a small amount of steering fluid into steering angle sensor housing so looks like this rack is also on its way out and in the period ive had the car 2 steering angle sensors have failed ) or are these common failures on these cars , i ask as not sure if to buy another or not really ? any feedback appreciated
  3. after trying disconnecting and reconnecting the battery ,removing and reinstalling cluster ,changing battery in key and previously mentioned ideas , disconnecting and reconnecting ecu seems to have worked ,touch wood! just have an air bag warning light on that wasnt there before ? though just relieved its drivable again
  4. can anyone please help ? i foolishly removed the instrument cluster to try and find an annoying rattle but now i put it back the immobiliser light flashes and cuts the engine i have a very important journey to make so any help would be greatly appreciated , i tried the re solder top too pins as shown in a thread on here but no luck ? i also tried the letting imobiliser cut it then leaving key in as someone also mentioned but again no joy ?
  5. thanks for the replies , i just wasn't familiar with the BSW and wanted to check others experience really as ive heard a few horror stories with some engine codes
  6. i will take a look ,thanks for the suggestion ,much appreciated
  7. thanks for the replies everyone , the first one failed after the housing filled with water due to a previous rack change and someone had not installed the rubber bush that sits between the rack and bulkhead correctly ,so i sorted this and replaced sensor but then rack failed a while after so replaced rack then after a couple years wrack failed again - oil coming out through gaitors, and into the angle sensor housing but luckily the sensor survived and i replaced rack again ! and all was ok for few years but now sensor has failed ,and some oil getting into sensor housing again so whether it has caused the problem i dont know tried cleaning up connectors several times in hope this would work but no luck sadly the one ordered appeared identical visually but they said it wouldnt work it was Reference OE/OEM Number 6Q1 423 291 A, 6Q1 423 291 E, 6Q1423291H ive seen some on ebay that are 6Q1423291D but ive no idea what the difference is ? i will check the recommended sites and breakers i actually dismantled one of the sensors hoping to make 1 good one out of the two bad ones so ill add a picture of the internals ,might be of some interest to someone i wasn't expecting there to be chips in it and was hoping to find a dry solder joint , the white fluffy stuff around the chip is the sealant they inject to seal the sensor up
  8. hi all as my fabia 2001 ATD seems to be looking like coming off the road i was looking at a possible replacement , a 2007 fabia 105 with BSW engine but haven't managed to find any info as to if this is one that's had issues of dropping a rod through the block like some BXE engines have ? any info regarding how BSW differs to other 1.9 or known issues much appreciated thanks
  9. hi all well my fabia mk1 1.9tdi 2001 has been relatively reliable for the last few years but now steering warning light is on yet again and it appears steering angle sensor has failed again , problem being the version is 6Q2423291A which is no longer produced ! i had ordered an after market one on ebay which showed as compatible but after supplying my reg they cancelled the sale saying it wasnt suitable and they couldn't supply one that was so i was wondering if there is any way around this problem anyone is aware of ? steering still works but with reduced assistance mainly noticeable at low speeds and mot is due soon so its not looking good thanks
