  1. iirc it has written on the inside of the fuel flap that if you fill it with anything higher than 95 RON it will have no effect on performance and economy.
  2. I think there is a fault with the coolant sensor and therefore need to replace it (temperature warning light comes on in the morning even though there is adequate coolant). As I understand it, it is integrated into the coolant expansion tank and it is easier to replace the tank and sensor in one go. My questions are: 1. The code I have been given is 6q0121407a. Is this correct and does this code include the sensor? 2. Do any other VAG cars use this part? (The only dealer I have got within reasonable distance is a SEAT dealer) Cheers
  3. That article and the Autocar article that it is sourced from have already been posted in another VRS speculation thread .
  4. Hi I went to my car this morning and it appears someone has had a bit too much fun last night as they decided to lift up all the windscreen wipers on peoples cars in the car park. Unfortunatly for me they decided tht 60-70 degree by which the rear wiper arm lifts up is not enough and forced up it vertically upwards, breaking the plastic hinge. I have read up on how to change it (it's not diffiult, only 1 nut to loosen) but was wondering if anyone knows if there are any in the skoda/audi/seat range that fit the fabia and rotate through 90 degrees meaning this problem shouldn't happen agin? Cheers
  5. I think maybe when you explained it to the garages they misunderstood what you said. When thay said it cant be adjusted they were probably referring to the clutch system. The clutch system is hydraulic and means that it is auto adjusting. You should be able to adjust the gearshift cables, as you said is in the haynes manual.
  6. I have just bought a tube of scratch-x and wondering if anyone can recommend the best way to apply it to the bodywork and to rub it in (cloth, sponge, etc)? Ta
  7. If I remember correctly, Peterco is right. Cars on a y reg were registered between 1st march 2001 and 31st july 2001 meaning the tax disc calculation would be based on emissions rather than engine size. Hope this helps
  8. The reason why I ask is that it only comes on in the morning (i.e. left overnight) and I can't find any other symptoms that would suggest a head gasket failure (e.g. loss of coolant, mayonnaise under the oil cap, smoke on start up, etc)
  9. Does anyone know if there is any difference in the behaviour of the coolant level warning light if its a sensor fault or a sign of head gasket failure (oil in the expansion tank)? (e.g. if the engines hot/cold when its started, etc)
  10. Regarding the clutch, when I spoke to them I put the emphasis on a spongy clutch pedal (even mentioned it could be a hydraulic leak and could possibly be one of the cylinders) but they never even answered the question about the spongy pedal. All they said was that the high biting point meant I needed a new clutch. I go up a fairly steep hill every morning so I would definitly know if it was slipping.
  11. Hi I took my car (1.4 mpi) into a dealer today (they will remain nameless) to have a couple of things looked at. I know a fair bit about cars but I'm not convinced with the diagnosis they gave. 1. Coolant temp/level warning light. Only comes on in the mornings, if car left to run for 2-3 mins and switched off then restarted it goes away. They said there's a thin layer of oil (which I cant really see) in the coolant expansion tank and I need a new head gasket. 2. Clutch has a spongy pedal and a fairly high biting point. They said it wasn't slipping but I need a new clutch. Anyone with any advice? Am I right to be suspicious or have they made the right diagnosis?
  12. It would also depend on when it was registered. If it was before March 2001 then its
  13. Just wondering, any updates on the tax disc holders?
  14. Welshy - I can perfectly understand why he said "Do everyone a favour..." In the space of two posts you have gone from saying "Dont get me wrong Im not having a go" to saying its irresponsible to encourage others into such high running costs. I dont see anywhere him encouraging others to do it and you just seem intent on stiring things up. Why are you assuming he's on 18k a year? He could be on 20k,30k, 40k a year or had a nice inheritance left to him, but what he does with his money is his decision and as long as it doesn't affect me then he can do what ever he wants with it. I'm sure if he didn't insure it and got caught you would be the first one to rub his nose in it!
