  1. Thanks again, I will buy a set of these lights and give them a go.
  2. Thanks for the update and useful info. I may be being dumb so forgive me (I'm not being lazy but there is no point in re-inventing the wheel if the knowledge is already out there), but I am still a little unsure about the wiring. I am about to fit DRL's to my Sprinter motorhome and found an ignition switched power connection for this purpose which means whilst the ignition is on so are they. Regarding the Roomster, you mention connecting via the battery and sidelights, is there some sort of relay which is switched via the ignition key??
  3. Thanks for the info guys, just to be sure - I have not checked but are you saying there is a 12v available at the sidelight even when it is switched off? I like the look of the Phillps DRL, any chance of a close up shot to see how / where they are mounted? Thanks, Andy
  4. I had a 2012 diesel Roomster which had DRL's, unfortunately we had to change the car to petrol (long story) and this one does not have DRL's. I would be happy to buy and fit them, just wondered if anyone had already done this and could advise the best solution and where to connect the wiring? Thanks in anticipation. Andy
  5. Hi, can anyone give me any tips regarding the task of changing the rear brake shoes - Roomster 1.2 petrol 2012, 230mm diameter shoes? I am ok changing them but am not sure about getting correct adjustment and if necessary tweaking the handbrake. Just want to do it right (and safely) - any help much appreciated. Cheers Andy
  6. Thank you - absolutely ideal - much appreciated - and quick too !!!!!!! Cheers Andy
  7. Hi, wanted some tyre info and checked the owners manual which came with the car - it is in French!!!! Does anyone have an electronic copy which I could somehow get a copy of - or is there one on this site?
  8. Thanks guys for the valuable input, we bit the bullet and swapped the TDI for the 1.2 12v, drove back well from Southampton and the wife (who is main driver) was very happy with it. I found it growled a little as mentioned and as expected was less torque'y but on the whole ok. So another chapter turned in the book of life !!!! Need to think about fitting a towbar - haven't checked yet but are there any guides???
  9. Thanks guys, I am feeling a bit more relieved with this data to hand, it's a 60 mille drive to take a test drive on the 1.2 12v tomorrow - your opinions have enabled me to decide this is worthwhile. Cheers Andy
  10. Thanks to all contributors for your opinions and advice, we made an expensive mistake with the Greenline and will loose about a grand in 5 weeks - good money if you can get it !!! You live and learn, i have owned many diesels previously which have not had a DPF so not encountered this problem before and hence chose the wrong model. I do not have a problem with this - just need to rectify the issue ASAP. We rarely leave Weymouth town and have no motorways nearby so think the 12V could be a contender - will go to Southampton and test drive one, if this is not powerful enough then the TSI is an option.
  11. Hello Phil, thanks for your reply, we have the option of a staright swap for a 12 plate 1.2 12v. From your points, we are using it for multiple stop start journeys round town of 1.5 - 4 mile durations, just the wife driving with a few odd gardening tools - so no weight. She can claim mileage (self employed) so economy is not so important - just a reliable small run around which on odd occasions may carry a lawnmower and some lightweight garden waste. I also do my own maintenance, do you know if these are easily serviced and maintained by the home mechanic?
  12. 5 weeks ago we brought a 1.2 TDI Greenline model, 2012 with 19k on the clock. Since then and my wife doing lots of short journeys - the DPF warning light has come on twice and is trying to do it's second regeneration. We previously cleared this by doing a long drive. Because of this and new found knowledge regarding the DPF, this model is not suitable for our needs and I am in the process of swapping for a petrol model instead - wife does journeys between2 - 4 miles at a time - most in traffic round town. We like the Roomster so want another one. The TDI has been an expensive mistake, I am looking at a 1.2 12v SE model of the same age / mileage and viewing tomorrow afternoon. Other models (TSI) 1.2 are available - what is the difference? Can somebody advise what the 1.2 petrol's are like - good reliable motors, for round town use, anything I should look out for - models to avoid - all input gratefully received. Thanks Andy
  13. Hello Richard, thank you for your reply - we are about to change the TDI for a petrol version - still need the liner so will follow up your suggestions. Cheers Andy
  14. Hi, the wife uses our 2012 Roomster for light business work and mobile gardening jobs. She needs to carry a mower and garden tools in the back - we are trying find a supplier of a full length (rear seats down) waterproof boot liner. Cost within reason is not a problem - want to protect the car. Any suggestions please? Thanks, Andy
  15. Thanks Eccleshill for your detailed advice, we are running it normally and waiting to see how long before the next regen is needed. Cheers Andy
  16. Thanks gizmo (& yes I mistakenly posted in the wrong sub forum). Contacted the dealer to see how long before another blowout would be needed based up town driving - needless to say he wouldn't quantify it at all. So guess we drive till the light comes on again, just wondered if other forum users had experience of this reoccurring issue.
  17. So, having owned a 1.2 TDI Greenline for 3 weeks, we are happy - nice car which feels safe (poor heater / demister) but we can live with that. What is the problem is that it is 19,000 mile 12 plate car - just 3 years old and in the 3 weeks we have owned it the DPF light came on. Not a big deal some might say ....I hope so otherwise we have got the wrong model. I have had numerous diesels in the past with no problem previously, this is my wifes car and covers short distances. So we have done 350 miles, of which 120 miles have been 60 mph open roads; the others are mainly short distances, the DPF warning light came on. Looking at the manual, I took it for a 20 minute burn at 1800 - 2000 rpm. This did not fix it over a 25 mile (40 minute) drive with the only exception to engine speed being roundabouts - where we live we do not have non stop open roads. So 25 miles and still the light on - I needed more diesel (no bull - we were low), stopped a couple of times and then drove back to Weymouth which was another 8 miles and the light actually went off. Now I have a dilemma, looking at websites (rightly or wrongly) there was an article stating that the 1.2 TDI is not suited to round town use - CAN anyone quantify this for me???? If the DPF needs a burn out every 1000 - 2000 miles then I can live with that but if it only lasts between 300 - 400 miles without a burnout then this car is not suitable for my use - i.e. not fit for purpose. I have tried to research how long it would take to get a DPF to the point where it needs the regeneration cycle but this is always dependant upon the conditions etc. Have read threads about the cycles etc. but it is difficult to quantify if this will keep happening every 300 - 400 miles. I am trying gather opinion - hope that our experiences are not going to become normal every 300 miles or so or the car will have to be replaced - the dealer did not explain this to me despite being and Audi / VW specialist - just a little concerned!!!!!! All suggestions gratefully received. Thanks Andy
  18. Thanks for your suggestion, I will look into this. They are too far away, so taking back would not be ideal. I have read some posts about using the speedo trip buttons - is this the best option?
  19. Hi, I brought a 1.2TDI Greenline 2 weeks ago from a dealer ~ 60 miles away. When I initially start the car the service warning word flashes, I have the number 1 on the display which I think relates to the service interval. The car has 2 main dealer services and a service stamp from the dealership I brought the vehicle from, done in August - I brought the car 6 weeks later with minimal mileage added since the service. Should the service word come on - I presume the car has at least 12 months before another service is due - we only cover ~ 5000 miles a year. Can anyone clarify this for me please - I have read posts about resetting this but is it normal? Many thanks, Andy
  20. Had a 1.2 TDI for 2 weeks now (2012, 19,000 miles). Stop / start is active sometimes and not active at others - I do not understand what governs this. Initially I thought if the engine was cold it would not be active, yesterday however when the blue light (engine cold - I was told) was on the dash, stop start was working when stopped and in neutral with handbrake on. During the same journey, about a mile and a half away I stopped - handbrake neutral etc.. and stop start was not available. can anyone enlighten me what is normal???? Thanks, Andy
