  1. Have seen plenty on eBay for less than £10 just non for a 2011 Fabia but if any from a Skoda will fit then not an issue.
  2. Yh mk2 and yes there is a black line down the windscreen
  3. So someone helped themselves to the aerial off my VRS, not sure why it was just a standard one. Anyway, does anyone know firstly if aerials are a standard fit on vag group cars and while I’m here is there anything I can do to get better reception for AM frequencies as I listen to talk sport more than anything.
  4. As a salesman I can say we are asked to inform people of the issues of buying diesels to do inappropriate journeys in. Although we certainly won’t refuse to sell a car to a customer even if it’s a bad choice. That being said, even when advised not to do something for their own benefit most customer can’t look past the short term draw of cheap road tax and high mpg. Things are changing slowly though, with all the scaremongering people are questioning the viability of diesels more.
  5. As offski said, mods carried out first, there was an improvement but still used more than tolerance.
  6. Was asked to post. Just got mine back after having an engine replacement under warranty, mines a 61 plate CAVE on 40500ish miles and it's had a CTHE short unit fitted to hopefully fix its thirst for oil, one the highest my particular dealer has seen. Now not sure wether to keep and extend the warranty or offload and hope the grass is greener.
  7. All well and good until it does and then it's either a huge repair bill or find a replacement whilst off loading a non functioning car, the kind of situation I would like to avoid. I am well aware I could swap the car and still end up in something unreliable.
  8. Well, it's a while since I last posted but today I picked my Furby up after having its engine replaced-ish. It's had what's often refered to as a short unit, I'm not sure what to make of it really. If the consumption has been sorted then great but I'm slightly concerned over the longevity of the the bits that have been unbolted from the old engine onto the new one. The question is, should I be concerned or will it be fine? When I took it in and the work due to be carried out explained I had decided it was time for the car to go but the difficulty finding a replacement and the joy of being back in it today make want to keep it. So, opinions please, what would you do?
  9. Either that or the Carista app will let you change it to a single press unlock all doors but you will need a dongle for the OBD port as well.
  10. They never told me actual figures, just said it's consumption had improved but still more than it should be. The car came with a 24m approved used warranty when I bought it.
  11. That will be a nice upgrade, have driven a few 220bhp Octavia's thanks to work and they are a better all round package. Not 100% on the facelift yet, think they might be a bit color dependent but looks like skoda have done a good job improving the interior.
  12. Ok so another update on mine, went for another consumption test today to see if the previous modifications had fixed the issue. The answer being no, using less oil than previous but still too high. New engine time, or at least they are going to put the claim through to the warranty company. Not sure if the right step would be to continue down this road or seek a way out of the car though.
  13. Although cheap Tyres can be a gamble I think it depends on the driver as to how big a risk they are. A good driver who doesn't drive a car to its limits is unlikely to find the limitations of a budget tyre in the same way someone with poor road sense would. I also think there are some gems out there, I had a modified focus with accelera alphas on and they were excellent in all conditions but it's a brand we no longer fit at work due to apparent poor quality. That's not to say I don't believe in getting what you pay for, I've just fitted 4 avons to my furby, hardly a budget tyre but I also drive it quite hard from time to time so I notice where the extra money went and if it was being used on track from time to time I'd have some more serious rubber, I doubt my mother could tell the difference though. I guess you have to consider the fact that a lot of cars on the road now sit on eco tyres which are essentially designed with less grip to give better economy and a lot of those will be premium brands so make of that what you will. Tyres, giving petrol heads a headache since the days of the horse and cart.
  14. Mine was at 24k miles when I bought it 18 months ago, now on 38k. Bought from a Skoda main dealer as approved used and came with 24 month warranty.
  15. Can I ask, roughly how much would it cost to get all the parts together to upgrade the front and rear brakes on a VRS?
  16. So I finally got mine back from Skoda today. A days work turned into nearly a week as they were short staffed and I work retail hours. Breather mod and spray jets done and now I've been asked to drive 200 miles and take it back to see if it has cured my oil consumption. Didnt think I would miss it as much as I did as a don't drive it hard very often but the 1.2tsi soon became tiresome and dull, apple care play was excellent though. Hopefully the next test will be positive and mine gets the all clear.
  17. Im sticking to recommended oil while I'm under warranty, I don't want them to have any reason to not pay out since after today's work if it continues to use oil it will require a new engine. On the bright side I've got lovely 110ps 1.2tsi Fabia courtesy car that I'm enjoying far more than expected!
  18. I just thought I would add to this thread as a few weeks ago I reported my high oil consumption to my local dealer (rainworth Skoda) It has undergone the consumption test and late last week it was confirmed my car exceeded tolerance and they were speaking to Skoda uk as to the next step. Roll on this afternoon and a call to book the car in on the 30th. They are doing the crank case oil breather mod, oil spray jets and ecu update. Im happy they are going to do both, best chance of a fix by the looks of it. Hopefully this will be the end of my issues and no more oil all over the back of the car!!
  19. Microfiber all the way, I have a couple, not particularly expensive. As for the age of the car I don't see what difference it makes, if the paint is in decent condition try and keep it that way.
  20. I shall go and do a search later for more input. Thanks for all the replies though.
  21. Any opinions on Goodyear eagle f1's or Avon zz5? Both more readily available and in my price range
  22. What are everyone's recommendations for Tyres on a VRS? I've got rainsport 3s on the front that are due a change and I'm not overly impressed with how quickly they have worn, I would still be tempted by a second set for grip but would like to know your opinions.
