  1. Hi Nick, thanks for that. My guy is an independent with years of experience and I know that he has a link that he uses to interrogate the car, as he has done the the past with a Mk4 Golf that I had. So, I'll pursue that route and report back.
  2. Hello to all. I have a great Octy, but it is scaring me! I've had the car since early January 2016. On only two occasions, the DSG has acted up. I have been out & about for probably an hour, in stop/start and B road driving. Suddenly and without any warning, the + - changes dont work. I try frantically to get a response from the gearbox by 'rowing' back and forth in manual mode, with no response. I cant remember if the engine has just gone in to idle. Then, after only 5-10 seconds (which feels more like a minute or two), the manual mode responds to my inputs and we're underway again. The feeling of the loss of power is like when you run out of fuel and the engine, I think, feels like its slowly dying away. But to be honest, it happens so quickly, that I cant recall anything. I dont remember seeing anything flash up on the dashboard. My thought: could it be that some component (electrical/electronic) within the DSG is getting nicely up to temperature, and then somewhere it loses its contact? This has happened twice now, and both times I've been out cruising, so the engine/gearbox are comfortably within their working temperature parameters, or so I would imagine. I'm having the car serviced this coming weekend, and I've got the guy to get the relevant oil/filter for the DSG. Any thoughts/comments welcome.
  3. Tilt, thanks for the guidance. I will start a new thread.
  4. Hello, as you're discussing DSG issues, can I add my DSG query? Or would it be better if I started a new thread? My issue, by the way, is momentary loss of drive, for no more than 5-10 seconds, which is quite disconcerting.
  5. Hello, just acquired my first Skoda. An Octavia estate (does Combi apply to an Octavia?). Its a diesel DSG (BKD engine) with 209,000 miles on a 2006 plate. Appears to have been well serviced, with lots of receipts, but needs a damn good clean. Its the L&K trim in cream leather with Black Magic pearlescent paint, which is dull as dish water at present. Having said that, its really lovely to drive. I've come from a 99/2000 VW Golf Mk 4 diesel auto with Winter Spec. A nice solid car that never really gave any problems 'til recently, when all manner of electrical/electronic grumbles started to reveal themselves. I plan to have the car fully serviced by a local independent mechanic. Also looking forward to any GTGs that might be happening within sensible reach of Hampshire. Bye for now. Steveland.
  6. Hi, I've got the same problem. Just acquired my Octavia and the previous owner admitted that he had made the initial hole on the black vinyl door capping, but that his little boy had picked at the vinyl and basically made a hole, into the foam underlay. Looks awful. My thoughts were that I would look to getting a door card off ebay, with the same black vinyl top, and carefully swap them over, assuming that removing that vinyl capping section is straightforward. Alternatively, I might look into the cost of getting a professional vehicle trimmer to lay proper black leather over the door capping area, and eventually do all four door cappings. I've got the Laurin & Klement trim, which is lovely (in cream) and although it needs a damn good proper clean, it would look good to have proper leather (in black) door cappings. General question: are there any planned social GTG's for Southern England or specifically Hants/Dorest/Wilts?
