  1. na its not electrical, everything is clunk-clicking and after 3-4 pulls it always opens its like the latch is just catching still...deffo a mechanical - latch related issue, just thought it might be something someone else has had, im reluctant to fetch the door card off without knowing what to look for.
  2. hi guys, lookin for some advice, my passenger door sometimes wont open even though its unlocked...the passenger often cant get out by pulling the handle and i have to get out and have a crack from the outside...even then i have to try 3-5 times before it opens...anyone got any ideas? its getting on my nerves big time! sods law when i tried to show the skoda guys while it was in for a service it worked fine!:thumbdwn:
  3. thanks chaps, from memory the lights do dim a little momentarily while its starting, thought that was a normal thing.
  4. not yet, doubt its battery related as the windows all worked fine as did stereo and headlights and dashboard.
  5. cheers, will a faulty relay stop it turning over? one of lads here seems to think the relay would cut fuel and not the supply to the starter? ie relay supplies power to electronics and electronics turn the starter motor on so if the electronics are working (like they are) then the starter should be turning over but not recieveing a fuel supply because the relay is knackered (ie its not the relay cos thats not what its doing)
  6. hi guys, went to start car this morning and it wouldnt turn over, all electrics are working fine so its not the battery thats flat, it doesnt even try turn over, just the usual 3-4second whirr in the background of the throttlebody alligning or whatever it is then nothing. not even a click. after about the 5th time i got a cough as i released the key but thats the best i got, in the end abandoned all hope and got in our lass's car. anyone had this? first thoughts are its an electrical connection problem between ignition and starter??? crazy thing is sometimes it does this when its cold but it usually starts 3-4th time, and it NEVER does this when its warmer (5degrees+)...wierd or what! ok, the general consensus here is that its the relay between the ignition and starter, anyone know where this is.
  7. thought some of you might like to see a skoda holding its own against some pretty sweet cars! there was 23 of us total with some real beasties...and a couple of random cars... and my octavia leading!...needless to say some very kind comments came from the owners of the faster cars saying how they were shocked and impressed with the pace it set (this was no stroll in the park)! hope you enjoy!
  8. churchill, mine is £980 or summat like that, std, full comp, at 23 with 3 points and a claim and 2yrs no claims.
  9. its air leaking from the secondary air pump making it louder, saw a thread on here before...do some searching, its a quick and cheap fix.
  10. Ben, print this off so if im not about you know what to look for... In no particular order... Bubbling on the alloys, Timing belt AND water pump replaced after 4th year or 60,000...dont accept one thats only had the belt done. Front anti roll bar bushes ok Front anti roll bar plastic sleeve ok Rear wheel bearings ok Centre exhaust mount ok Starter motor ok(alot of em screetch when cold starting this time of year, its due to the solenoid sticking and keeping the motor turning for a second after the engine has fired up) think thats the key common failures on em, apart from the timing belt all are quick £30 quid fixes you can do on the drive with some axel stands and a small amount of mechanical prowess.
  11. ahem...me would be the answer to that:D
  12. its always interesting to see how people come to figures. i think ive said it a few times but wheel horse power is the only measured power on a rolling road everything else is best guess based on a programme and the engine braking on rundown, the guy on the rolling road can alter the way the programme makes its calcualtions and hey presto a 6000bhp octy with 180 bhp at the wheels.
  13. from what ive read on this forum 230 is about as much as the turbo will run at. For me, id say if your going to try for big bhp id sell the octy (oh no i didnt!) and buy the leon cupra-R. much better basis for some getting 300bhp with alot less hassle.
  14. off off off! learn some throttle control if you cant launch without lighting the tyres up. if you shift into second in mine with asr on at full chat the front wheels chirp and then asr cuts all power for about a second before gradually feeding you the power back... so again i say off and practice launching.
  15. my car is a 52 plate and it had its belt and pump (metal) replaced recently (cars only on 38,000 at the time) and the pump had 1 part of the impellor cracked and the other bits pretty much crumbled with handling them. as the guys say better safe than sorry. even relatively untravelled cars can suffer from this. (guy at independant vw specialists was shocked when he saw the pump and admitted that the knowledge he'd gained from me about this would mean he reccomends doing it on other cars in future as part of the timing belt work, he also had never seen a metal impellor pump till i told him to find one)...all because of the helpful people at briskoda!
