  1. I'm thinking EGR delete as an alternative to replacing the pipe? would anyone recommend this?
  2. I asked them to check the issue that turned out to be the EGR pipe, I thought it was the manifold gasket, the car also had a service while it was in so I suspect they were doing it thoroughly. The oil leaks don't fuss me but I know if I keep this car in good nick it will do me for as long as I need. Only 84k on the clock which isn't bad for 07. I would definitely prefer things to be done much cheaper if I can, just wanted to be sure I wasn't being excessively charged.
  3. Honestly nothing would please me more than a nice set of AP coilovers, but I also have a holiday to Spain this month and a 4 year old daughter with childcare bills, the timing is rather awful
  4. Good advice, I'll probably look to source what I can, I have 2 weeks test left before it's off the road, I could probably get help or find a garage and save myself quite a sum.
  5. Thanks, The callipers on the Special Edition (or Limited Edition I never know which one) are all red, so I imagine they are like rocking horse poo in terms of sourcing.
  6. BTW chaps, the whistling transformed to a blowing noise, it was the EGR pipe as discovered today at the garage.
  7. Afternoon all, My VRS SE has just failed it's MOT, I have a list of the work and the cost and would really like to know if the figures are in the right area, I'm not distrusting of the garage, I just like to know my options (I expect not many as I have neither the skill, tools or time to do it myself ) MOT Fail Off side front coil spring snapped £138 near side rear brake calliper has excessive travel £210 (because it's the red one) Advisories Oil leak from rocker cover gasket £129 Gear box oil leak from end cap £89.88 Rear bump stops perished £90 EGR pipe leaking £138 The garage is a specialist VAG garage with plenty of great reviews, which is the reason I took the car there. Cheers.
  8. I'm due a service and MOT next month, in the mean time my car isn't going to sh!t a turbo or anything is it?
  9. I have similar on mine, only happens when I'm giving it some beans, not quite as loud as that but I figured it was some kind of leak either from the air intake or turbo, I can also smell exhaust fumes when i'm travelling slowly, I thought this might be just when I'm in traffic but it's never really been there before I had this slight whistle/screeching. Time to check hoses?
  10. It does seem like the turbo to me, I think I'll be taking it easy and not give it too much work to do until it goes in for it's service and I ask them to check it.
  11. You're right, the only way to truly know would be to have a car inspected fully by a mechanic such as yourself, and the car is booked in for 4th May. I was hoping for either a shared experience or perhaps a known fault of a component so I could assess whether I'm OK driving some 500 miles over the weekend,
  12. I've also noticed this, I'm due a service so I just assumed that it was old oil, but then I know very little about these things. So if this happens after the service, there's nothing to worry about then?
  13. Hello good people of Briskoda I noticed a strange whistle coming from my car the last 48 hours, at first I thought it might have been a bit of rubbing on one of my pads but i've just studied it on the way home and it's coming from the turbo (or just air intake for now). It happens if I'm giving it a good nudge on the accelerator, not necessarily foot to floor but also I only hear the sound between 2200 and 3000 rpm approx. It's not the normal turbo whistle I know what that sounds like and I rather enjoy it, more just a louder noise that sounds as mentioned like a squeaky brake. At this moment I just need to know if it's going to be OK until I can get it looked at, I'm travelling to London and back from Darlington over the weekend and need my trooper to do me a solid on this one. It's Fabia VRS. Thanks in advance, Mark.
  14. Right no bother, I'll get it sorted. Thanks very much! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks, With it being a hydraulic clutch, would this cause the other issue I have? The clutch sometimes doesn't return under my foot, it's soft and feels dampened. Can be for 2-8 presses of the clutch which is annoying in traffic using the bite to move.
  16. Hi Guys, I'm having the same problem, the gear changes are notably different when cold, also occasionally I struggle getting into 1st or reverse and have to pump the clutch/turn engine off or whatever takes me at the time. My local VAG specialist want £35 to do a diagnostic which tbh I'm not fussed about the cost unless it's something serious!
  17. Hi all, A few times my clutch pedal has been slow to return under my foot, it's random when it does it and feels like it's being dampened, it also does it with the engine off as I sat and tested it for a while. Likey cause/fix? Fabia vRS SE. Cheers Mark.
  18. Hi, what's in the repair kit? Basically the last owner of my car removed the motor and blade completely so I need everything apart from the wiring. Cheers. Mark.
  19. Rear wiper motor and wiper assembly if possible [emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Amazing, I topped up my screen wash before i left, so that's likely the cause. Cheers both! I did read that thread before but I clearly have a terrible memory.
  21. Howdy all. It seems my intermittent wiper setting isn't working, specifically the wipers don't work when on that setting but do work when on normal and fast. Next is actually a question, below the dipped beam switch is a cubby hole that has a sliding lever in it, it has 'ON' written on it. No idea what it does or what position on actually is. Thanks in advance.
  22. Nice, thanks guys. It has Anthracite coloured alloys which I was going to do anyway, I'd like a more smokey look on the headlights if i can, the current ones are brand new by the looks of things. My god was it fun to drive! 74k on the clock so I'm chuffed to bits. Can't remember the SE number tbf but I'm sure i will post more on here!
