  1. Following this thread, I noted the comments about changes in file size, in particular those saying that the current files are smaller. Mine is an MIB1 and comparing the files for the UK for the current downloads to those of the previous version shows the geocoding as having been deleted. I presume this is a “bodge” to fit the files onto the smaller SD cards and save having to supply new ones on warranty. I rarely use the SKODA satnav, as I’ve never liked it and don’t take my car overseas, so I would have preferred they kept the geocodes and included a UK only version as an option. I don’t have fibre broadband, so spending 8 hours downloading 6GB of something I’m not going to use, is a waste of time. 2. There seems to be a moral here, not to throw away parking tickets, even if you think it's all done with. There was nothing to indicate that that car park was camera controlled, and no obvious reason to retain the parking ticket, but I'm naturally glad that I did. Perhaps one shouldn't use the windscreen clip for car-park tickets, although in this case I guess it was not relevant as no human warden ever looked at it. As to whether I should help my wife out of the car or pay the parking ticket first varies with circumstance. I feel happier to have her buckled up in the wheelchair before leaving her unattended, as recently she took things into her own hands, fell and fractured her pelvis. She suffers from dementia and is not fully aware of her own disabilities.
  3. At the time I wrote that I did not know that I still had the ticket in my ash tray. With nothing on the windscreen when you leave the park, there is no reason why one should save the ticket, hence - no proof. I would, but my wife didn't like the food there anyway, so probably won't be going again, but not because of the parking issue.
  4. Thanks to peterhardy, MattChr & Ttaskmaster for all of your useful inputs. I have partially taken the route since suggested by Ttaskmaster. The Restaurant had an arrangement where you got two tickets from the pay & display machine, one the display ticket, and the other a receipt of the parking paid that they would refund when you paid the restaurant bill. I contacted the restaurant and they took my case up with Euro Car Parks, for as you say it’s their loss of business if people get done for parking there. They have since told me that the case is now cleared, but I’m retaining all the details – just in case
  5. Since posting, I found the original receipt in my car ash tray. They had requested the first letter of the car registration which is also on the receipt, so I can challenge it anyway. There was an 8 minute delay between their time stamp of my entering the park to the time on my ticket. My wife is disabled and it takes a while to get her out into the wheelchair, so I may have exceed their time allowed to pay? I guess with pay & displays if they don't put a note on your windscreen at the time, it's your word against theirs. I'm afraid that the restaurant has lost any further business from me as I'm not likely to be parking in that car park again.
  6. Just over a week ago I went to a restaurant, parked in the pay and display nearby. I attached the parking receipt to the windscreen, using the little clip provided by Skoda. Today I received a Parking charge Notice from a company called "Euro Car Parks" with time-stamped photographs of my numberplate when I entered and left the car park, and a fine for £85. Nothing was put on my car at the time I parked there, so there was no reason why I should have kept the receipt to show that I had paid. I have to assume that their parking warden looked on my dashboard and did not look higher up to where their ticket was being displayed on the windscreen. In future, I guess I won't be using this clip to avoid a similar incident in the future.
  7. Thanks to the earlier posters, a very useful topic. I updated my satnav just over a year ago, without any problem. Mine is a MIB 1 and the usable space on its SD card around 7.5GB. As I was going to reformat it anyway, I tried my previous data using NTFS instead of FAT32, and can confirm that it failed to work. It brought up a message to insert a genuine Skoda card, even 'though it was a genuine card. I also went through the cycle of finding that the current data would not fit when formatted to the FAT32 default. It literally fell short by a few Mb's. FAT32 with 4Kb clusters worked, with around 160Mb spare. - Not a lot, I have to assume that by the upgrade in November, I may have to start deleting the maps I don't use. Not that I use the Skoda Satnav for much other than telling me which road I'm in, It may be the devil you know, but I bought a cheap 'Chinese' Satnav on ebay for £30 a few years ago and it's been far more practical to use than the Skoda one.
  8. Thanks, that must be it. It explains why some see it and some don't. That's Sanse Mp3 Art Sizer
  9. I just don't get the word "database" showing.
  10. PS to an earlier comment: If I used FLAC I could get a truly lossless reproduction of all the "wow and flutter" on the cassette tapes I've been copying. - Just a thought!
  11. I have to go along with petecollier, I can't find the database view either. At the top level I'm able to choose the source be it SD, USB, Bluetooth etc. Then you get a list of the files on whichever source you have chosen, and lastly the individual Mp3 files, "or FLAC if you prefer" Database View must be an option for some. Personally I prefer to shuffle the tunes anyway.
  12. I know this is an old thread, but first my thanks to ciclista71 , I had the same problem, My old car only played cassettes, so I have been converting all my old music tapes to mp3, scanning the covers to add them as "artwork", also taking care to keep all the jpg files to 300x300 pixels. As others on this old thread had noted, some showed OK, whilst others just showed the default icon. The problem proved to be the fact that the ones that failed to work had progressive jpg files. I found that the IrfanView freeware viewer had the ability for lossless conversion of progressive jpg files to baseline. I deleted the progressive files and substituted the converted baseline files and all my artwork now shows fine on my Skoda.
  13. Not so as the SD card is a non-standard value, and it does not work if you substitute a standard SD. What you are saying Ozzyoz may be true on some earlier devices, but those cannot be programmed oneself, you have to purchase an updated SD from Skoda. I had no problems in updating mine, but having said that, I still think the Amundsen Sat Nav, leaves much to be desired.
  14. A couple of points I missed. 1. First in the car, go to "SETUP" - "System Information". Check your Nav Database. The current one ends in ECE 2016. 2. "Setup" click "Remove SD2 Safely It should then grey out. Do the same on completion on the PC clicking the USB icon. Folkie
  15. Hi n00dles71, The link on the Skoda site that I went to launched a downloader. In theory the downloader loads the 7zip file, you then point it to your SD and it does the rest. In practice mine stated that there was data on the SD card, and did I wish to delete it. I clicked "yes" at which point it bummed out saying that the file would not fit. The procedure I used was: 1. I backed up the original data on the SD in case I needed to restore it. 2. Unlock the SD Card 3. I used their downloader to download it as the file is over 6GB 4. After the hassle I had with their downloader saying the file was too large for the SD (rubbish), I reformatted the SD card FAT32 anyway. 5. I used my MS windows own software to unzip the file ,(Drag the file on a Rt. click then select "Extract to" -this takes a while) 6. I then copied the unzipped files across to the reformatted SD card. 7. Lock the SD card Out of interest, I tried pointing the Skoda downloader at the file I had downloaded earlier. It stated that the file already existed and did I wish to overwrite. On saying "no" it still goes to the unzipping option, but as my updated SD card was already working at that point, it was a case of "if it 'aint broke, don't fix it. I think the Skoda downloader was supposed to be friendly, but just didn't work. Although it offers to delete the original files, it still seemed to think that the SD card is too small, so perhaps if you delete the files off the SD card before you start their downloader that might work. (untried) My next problem is how to update the firmware, which on my unit is at version 0435. Looking on YouTube and also one of the Russian forums, it is currently at 0475, also how does one add Media Codecs? but that's for another topic Folkie
  16. Probably "finger trouble" being quite a new car, but daft as it sounds, I still have to use my old Sat Nav that cost me £30 on a well known auction site. The first problem is when I give the Amundsen Sat Nav a Post Code, it always comes back with "Street Data Not Available For This Location". Last week I went to Gunton Hall in Suffolk, I had been given the post code for Gunton Lane, but the car Sat Nav had no idea where that was, while connecting up my old device, it took me straight there. Even my son's Sat Nav app on his iPhone, found it OK. The one with the car located Gunton Hall as being somewhere near Yarmouth, but I got no direction indications on how to get there. Another thing on my old Sat Nav was a decent count-down to when I may need to change direction, I found this somewhat lacking on the one with the car. I downloaded the latest Map data, from the Skoda website, in case that might be the cause. An interesting note here is that the size of data on the SD card as received with the car was 1.25GB, while the downloaded version was 6.8GB. This sounded quite promising, as the larger data size must have more data for something. Anyway I plugged it in: It said "Reading Navigation Data" or something similar, I then test it with a post-code and it's back with "Street Data not Available " again. It can find most post codes, but the results seem sketchy, also it does not show the speed traps. Is there something else in the Setup needs doing? Is it me? For now I just use the car Sat Nav to tell me which street I'm in which it seems quite good at, but I do not often use it to find out how to get anywhere. Folkie
  17. I'm only saying, that's how I recall it, I was probably going at around 60mph and certainly not parking. The image was different to Fig 175, and different to the parking image, that on my car only shows the rear of the car. After it had occurred, I went through the manual, and also tried "Google Images" but I was unable to find the same image. Apart from the picture being different, all else indicates that it was warning me to brake. There was no need to brake at the time as there was nothing in front, nor was there any automatic braking. It's probably going to happen again, so I'll see what happens next time. I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had the same alarm with a picture different to that shown in the manual?
  18. For the record: The Fig 175 shown by andyvee shows a rear view of the car with sensors front, + front left & front right, and is the same picture that I have in my manual. As I recall it, the picture I had when it occurred, showed a plan view of the car, with sensors front, rear, + front & rear sides. I think there were six sensors shown in all, but the differences in the drawings may depend on the number fitted. No indication was given to the direction of the hazzard.
  19. Thanks again andyvee, yes Figure 175 on P156. is the closest, apart to my recollection of there being no lines showing the road, also I thought it indicated more of the RF symbols that surrounded the whole car in all directions. The entire illustration being in red. In response to the other queries: There was a "beep" There was no braking. I'm fine with all the above explanations, and thanks to everyone for there help. Possibly it would be more helpful if the direction of the suspected "collision" was shown, which was not the case.
  20. Thanks pipsypreturns and Skodev I'll go along with the crash mitigation thing, perhaps a picture of the car in red with sensors around was to indicate a side proximity problem rather than something in front. I had a passenger with me at the time who also noticed nothing obvious either. I was somewhat surprised that I could not find any copies of the same image on google images, or in the handbook. Certainly there was no automatic braking involved or any other cars in front of me. I looked in the mirror when it happened and there were no cars behind either.
  21. PS to the above: If it helps, I searched "front assist", suggested by andyvee and looked for pictures showing the display pictures for for front collision. These appear to be two cars with an exclamation mark between, or a picture of a car in front with an arrow pointing towards it and dotted lines showing the road. Neither of these are what I had on my display showing a warning picture all in red of the car with RF sensor signs (similar to the symbol you have on the contactless credit cards) on front, back and sides . I've tried searching, but can find nowhere showing what that symbol was intended to mean? If it was supposed to be self explanatory it failed.
  22. Thanks for the prompt reply andyvee, I thought of that, except for the fact that there were no cars directly in front, and looking in the mirror there were no cars directly behind me either. Second point is that the drawing showed "sensors" all round the car where I would have expected that warning of a front collision for example would have shown the sensors just at the front. Your "Front Assist" would appear the most likely explanation, apart from the fact that there were no other cars that close. Is there anywhere one can download pictures of these symbols and their meanings?
  23. Driving on the open road the other day, the warning indicator on the display panel behind the steering wheel suddenly showed a plan of the car all in red, with RF sensors showing all around it. This took up the whole display, with nothing else being indicated. The car carried on as normal and after a while this picture disappeared, and the display reverts to its usual state. Being all in red it would indicate that it could be something serious. I searched the manual for information of what it might mean, also tried Google Images, so I would be grateful if anyone here could enlighten me as to the meaning of it.
  24. Thanks to you both for your input. Anyway, since my last post I made a search and went for the http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CD0JBZK , I looked at both the UK reviews and the ones for the same item on the USA amazon and although a number on the USA site were unfavourable, there were none relating to any interferance, so thought I would take a chance. I'll do my own review when I get it. Folkie
