  1. Following a light bump to the front end of my 2007 Fabia, I am in need of a replacement front bumper. It would appear that the majority of the available bumpers are for the 2010-2014 facelift model, so I am now wondering if the later bumper fits on my earlier car? the lights are the (not very good) single projector type if that makes any difference. Cheers Pete
  2. Does this engine have an anti judder valve fitted? I had a VW Caddy with the ALH 1.9 TDi engine which developed a big judder on shut down, the wire in the plug to the valve had broken. Fixed that and it fixed the judder. I appreciate that they are different engines, but they are made by the same folks.
  3. I broke my key whilst trying to take my winter steels off this spring, took the car to my local VAG specialist as they had a wide selection of keys, none of which matched mine so they cut the lock nuts off and replaced them with new standard items. Mush easier o do with the steel wheels as the is no "nut well" for them to hide in.
  4. Afternoon folks. I mate of mine was driving behind me last night and pointed out that the rear light on the drivers side was kaput. I removed the light unit and both of the bulbs were blown so I whipped one of the bulbs out of the passenger side light and put that it, two slightly less bright rear lights are better than one bright and one dead one. when I turned the lights on it blew the replacement bulb too :-( I checked the fuses (number 18 from wheat I could decipher from the handbook) but that was ok. I have retrofit HID headlight bulbs as the only modification to the car. Any experience of this issue and any suggestions on how to fix it? Cheers Pete
  5. my 2007 PD3 has 288 front brakes so I assumed (dangerous, I know) that it was a case of just swapping the carriers (and discs), and Robert is your Mother's brother. the calipers have the number 54 stamped on them.
  6. When you did the front brake swap, was it just the carriers that you changed and kept the same calipers? if so, what car did you get the carriers from? Despite keeping my eyes peeled, I still haven't spotted you in or around Lincoln, if you do see somebody in either a grey T4 Transporter or an orange Fab II waving at you like an idiot, it will be me......
  7. Just ordered a kit from HIDs-Direct, So I should have a brighter commute to work next week.
  8. They're not bad, but they're not that good either... HIDs are on my to do list of mods.
  9. If I want to see where I'm going, I have no choice other than to use the fog lights! Stupid Fabia headlights....... :peek:
  10. Just for the record, I powered the booster from the iso connector, pin 5 I think.
  11. I've got all the bits but I'm stumped on how to get power to the aerial booster. Would it be possible to use the power antenna/amp remote out as a power supply?
  12. I can't help on th diagnostic front (other than suggesting swearing at it and making treats of physical violence unless it bucks its ideas up), but I can confirm that my 2007 does not show a crusie control light or symbol on the dash either.
  13. My 2007 Fabia II went in for an aircon service at a garage local to my office in Bucks did I have been using for a decade. Reason for poor aircon performance: zero gas in tbe system. Works better now... The garage are great (except for phoning you to let you kow the work is complete) and ate certainly good enough to to work on the cars owned by Jay Kay
  14. It' a standard rectangular double din shape. I'll search in evilbay and see what I can find. Cheers Pete
  15. Morning all, I've bought a replacement aftermarket double din stereo (a Sony if it makes any difference) and I'm pomdering a couple of things. Do I need an aerial booster? Does anyone have a recommendation on a fitting kit? Cheers Pete
  16. I assume that it will be easier to swap the whole beam rather than removing the drums and fitting the disc set up, if this is the case, what vehicles should I be looking at as a donor (other than a Fabia II)? Cheers Pete
  17. this is the tyre: A new (9 year old) unused standard sized tyre, which is quite a lot nicer than the tyres fitted to the road wheels.... If you can get the wheel nuts of with the standard chocolate wheel brace, you can get them back on tight enough to prevent the wheel falling off on the way home IMHO. I carry a breaker bar with a wheel nut socket on it, so all I need to worry about is trying to avoid skinning my knuckles on the road whilst using the standard jack, I won't be carrying around my trolly jack like I did in my last vehicle (a mk2 Caddy van) as there isn't enough room in the boot. Maybe I should've bought a Roomster......
  18. Afternoon all. whilst having a nose around my new (to me) 57 plate Fabia, I took the spare wheel out and it has this sticker on it: As this is a full sized spare with a standard tyre, do I really have to stick to 50 mph? Cheers Pete
  19. My brakes are fairly wooden, but I will be driving 150 miles to work tomorrow morning so they may perk up with a bit of use. The car has been sat on a garage forecourt for god knows how long so there is some surface corrosion that needs removing. I ran a tape measure across them yesterday and they appear to be 288s rather than 256s. I might just get new (good) discs and pads and see what that does. any recommendations of decent discs and pads? I have used Black Diamond (on my T4 camper) and Green stuff pads (on various vehicles) in the past.
  20. I have an '07 1.9 tdi 105 with 288 brakes and the last MOT had advisories for brake disc pitting, so as I'm going to need to change them I thought why not upgrade whilst I'm at it. So my question is this: can I just get a new set of caliper carriers and use my existing calipers with 312 discs? Cheers Pete
  21. I live up hill just up from the Shell garage on Burton road. I have a vw camper too so I'm well used to random people waving at me....
  22. Thanks for the welcome. I'm busy searching for all sorts of info, a new car means a new learning curve.....
  23. Hello, I'll be picking up my orange Fabia PD3 1.9 TDI on Saturday. I Live in Lincoln but work in Buckinghamshire so I commute about 4-500 miles per week, so my current car (2002 VW Caddy TDI) is starting to show the strain, it will have ticked over 165K by the end of this week, which is not an issue in itself, but the toilet door aerodynamics and my heavy right foot mean that it only does 42mpg, so it has come time to move to something a bit more frugal. I think that I will keep any modifications to a minimum, probably just a remap and maybe some mild lowering with new springs. I had coilovers on the Caddy, but they aren't as comfortable as proper struts IMHO. I may consider a stainless exhaust, but only if/when the current one is shot. I'm on a load of other car forums, mostly vwcaddy.com, retro rides and the VWT4forum, but somebody already had my usual user name (village) so I added a Mr, mainly to differentiate me from my Wife, Dr Village. I'm a 39 year old/young Fire Engineer who likes cars, reading, beer, morris dancing and the telly Cheers Pete
