  1. Thanks using the diesel clean up additives seems to improve things but the problem returns every few thousand miles ?? :-(
  2. Still needing help in this Topic as car still smoking but only very occasionally now and for less than 1/4 mile at a time. Does not use hardly any oil. Seemed to improve after adding one of those bottles of diesel fuel engine cleaners ?? My mechanic thinks it could be a valve that occasionally sticks and causing the oil discharge / ****e smoke but he did not know which or what Can anybody help please ??
  3. OK here is update :-) All sorted and for not too much money. Went to Timpsons Key Cutters in the Insh's Tesco Store at Inverness - they are "automotive key specialists" - their words - but not automotive locksmiths. We go another new blade cut from the original broken key that is the flip type and fits the original Skoda 3 button fob - all for £7 - so that is us back to where we started :-) Also we ordered another complete unit for a spare as we never had a spare key with this car when it was bought - new 3 button fob and flip key supplied and programmed for £150.00 only. I cannot recommend Timpsons highly enough and they were very very helpful - we will be using them again as not only do they do keys but the do engraving, house signs, sewing and clothes repairs, alterations - the list is endless at the Tesco Insh's Store in Inverness.

  5. OK mechanic friend came out yesterday (I was not at home) and checked it over and put all his electronic diagnosis stuff on it and could find nothing wrong - it us using less oil now and the white smoke is less frequent now - when i say white it is definitely an oily smoke as you can smell the oil. But only comes for a short while, a few 100 yards or a couple miles then goes again ?? Is there any kind of valve might be sticking >> Mike the mechanic was thinking this way ?? Makes some sense maybe a vent from the rocker cover or sump direct to exhaust ?? At least it does not seem to be a broken engine yet and shluld not be at 113,000 miles HELP ??
  6. Thanks for the help will reply once we find a solution :-)
  7. Water and Oil do not contain any emulsion and no water used only oil - it is very strange last night I had two miles of white smoke then gone again for 300miles on varoius local and longer runs since then. Cannot pinpoint it too high acceleration or warm or cold engine - just totally unpredictable ?
  8. We have a 62 plate Skoda Octavia VRS DSG Diesel estate ex police car. I have had it since Jan 2016 and got it with 103K miles on and full service history all good. It has now done 113K and has just been serviced 1000 miles ago. However it started to develop a smokey burnt oil smell about a week ago and every now and then for a short while has white smoke from the exhaust that quickly clears up again. In one week and 500 miles it has gone from max to min on the dipstick and continues to smell and occasionally omit white smoke but there is no rhyme or reason to it when etc ? Any ideas what this could be ?? Rings, Turbo, push rod seals ?? Thanks Ruari
  9. OK we got a new key made in Timpson's in Inverness but it does not fit the fob so we have to use them seperately and hold the fob close to the ignition to start it or you get a Non Key message and it cuts out - will try keys in the post and other leads for now - does nobody know a dedicated Auto Locksmith near Inverness ??

  12. We have a 62 plate Skoda Octavia estate and my partner managed to break the key off in the ignition yesterday. We have managed to get it out and we are being quoted between £270 and £370 for a replacement. Any idea where best to go and is it cheaper if you go to them ? We are 42 miles down the A9 from Kinverness at Kingussie. Thanks Ruaridh

  14. Up here I usually have my snow tyres on from the 1st of Dec to end of April but we can get snow outside of that too ;-) They make a huge difference though !!
  15. That is just double dutch to me ?? Last time I worked on cars it was things like Ford Escorts Mk1 and Mk2 ;-)
  16. Just ordered a full set of winter tyres from ebay from Germany with alloy wheels with 225/40 x 18 tyres in 8ins rims. Anybody tried the Nexen Winguard tyres - they seem to get good reviews and are American I think. What do others use and how many months do you leave your winter tyres on for ? Thanks :-)
  17. Intermittant Auto Gearbox Problem - I forgot to pout it in the title and do not know how to edit the post title now ? I just bought this car with 103,000 kms and it is an ex police car with an extensive and full service history. I have done about 1000 miles in the first week with no problems - I enjoy the automatic box and the different ways to drive it. Great handling car. Anyway tonight I went out and reversed down drive about 75m to drive 1/2 mile round to my yard and it seemed to take a little while for forward drive to engage and needed a bit of extra throttle compared to normal. On driving round I noticed it did not change up the gears either ?? Then once round there I could not engage reverse to turn round ?? Lever went in to reverse but no drive. I had a 1 hours meeting and came out and everything was normal again. Temperature was 5 degC so not too cold ?? All surfaces level no hills. Anybody know what might cause this ? Also got a tyre pressure warning light on dash but cannot see a soft tyre - how accurate are they. This car will be used as a taxi - thanks :-)
  18. I am new on here and new to Skoda. I nearly bought a new special edition Skoda Rapide years ago when I was 20 when I was interested in Rallying. In the recent 10 years I have had ex police Volvo V70 TD5 ex police cars estates and now I am trying an ex police Skoda So far very happy with the level of trim, feel, gadgets, handling and looks. Always had a soft spot for Skoda. We will use this car as a Taxi too and it has 103K kms on it.
