  1. Hi I have the talex lite unit and although i have been told i can update for free through novus i have never been able to do it despite having the correct cable on both vista and now windows 7. I did manage to update on xp a while back but that is no good for me! I am getting error message 14 or 16 basically saying it cannot communicate. I have tried everything but nothing works!! Can anyone help, otherwise unit will end up in bin!! thanks
  2. Hi Can anyone be of any help here. I bought a Talex lite a couple of years ago and it never had the data cable supplied. I have recently bought the right cable at an extortionate price and am looking to try and get updated. Before i do i notice that the Novus Delta is the same unit with free updates! I therefore followed all the instructions to update yet it didn't work. I noticed that there was a message saying that it may not support windows vista which is what i have. Will this update work for the talex lite on the novus download if i find a friend with windows xp? Looking on the Talex website they are trying to get £3.95 a month for the privilige of updates, however does their software support windows vista as there seems to be suggestion that again it doesn't. I would rather keep using the unit as it is useful having a speedometer and a clock (car clock is broken) so any help would be appreciated.
  3. To be honest i have always found Fiat to be ok apart from rust and on earlier 80's cars dubious electricals!! However a lot of electrical equipment on cars now is standardised with one or two brand names supplying a lot of manufacturers. The main problem with Italian cars in my opinion isn't the cars themselves but the customer service at dealers which is shocking along with their over inflated service charges. Personally I feel the French have many more crimes to answer for. The Laguna series 2 for example, which had no end of trouble and the build quality on the C3 is terrible.
  4. Off to all things Italian eh? Punto's aren't bad little cars to be fair. Italian cars get way too much stick had a few in our family including: Alfa GTV 3.0 24V Alfa 164 3.0 24V (glorious engines in these) Fiat Coupe 20v Oh and not forgetting my mates 1.0 Uno!!! All bombproof with few problems apart from the Uno's metal fatigue!!!
  5. To go back to the first post if your temp is 75oc then a new stat should improve MPG no end as the ECU will be overfueling not thinking it is upt to normal (90oc) temp US gallons are just under the 4 litre mark i believe wheras in the UK it is around 4.5 litres per gallon.
  6. why would you want to turn an engine over with the head off!! There are stretch bolts that clamp the whole thing together in a sandwich to the oil rail at the bottom of the block.
  7. Bit more to insure unfortunately Engine is all rover and not honda, however other bits are shared with Civic
  8. A Rover 400 1.4!! Same year (1998) with 36,000 miles on it.... and before you all start saying about Head Gasket I had Multi Layer Steel Land Rover replacement put on due to a jammed stat blowing last head and a friend of the family not noticing quickly enough!! I have had a few of these before and apart from the gasket issue they have no real problems in the reliability stakes.
  9. My relationship with my £30 Skoda Felicia will come to an end this Saturday as i acquire my mothers car for nowt....too tempting. Now i know others have went off in a huff because of a few simple faults but I covered over 40,000 miles in my Felly and despite a few component changes (shocks, thermostat etc) it never let me down once and i will be sad to see it go. :( Not bad for £30 It is being donated to a friend of the family who needs some wheels so hopefully it will charge on for a bit longer as there isn't anything wrong with it apart from the ever spreading rust!! I will still drop in on the forums though and who knows i may get another Skoda sometime soon
  10. £85 fitted from Exhaust Systems Ltd in Gateshead 2 years ago. Will be about £90-£95 now.
  11. I would try a tin of spray after flattening area and see how you get on. I have sprayed wheelarches (they need doing again mind) in the past and the paint from the dealer is a bang on match
  12. not used on the felicia but my bro fitted HIDs to a citreon xm and it transformed it. The Felicia in contrast has pretty decent lights to start with so an upgrade to better xenon bulbs should do the trick
  13. Try skospares to see if they have a tailgate in cars dismantled by skospares.com for all your skospares
  14. If your thermostat is stuffed and system is overcooling then this would account for your poor MPG if your car is an MPI version as the temp sensor doubles up as a fuel temp sensor. Only other explanation i can think of is a leak in addition to the above to get that poor MPG. If you change everything and inspect with no leaks then try detatching the battery for a few mins as this resets the ECU (or something like that!)
  15. Eddie You live in Gatesheed don't you? I live in Byker if you want to call by. I am happy to have a quick look at your calipers for free!
