  1. For the cost involved it doesn't make much sense, BUT there is still benefit from changing oil without filter rather than nothing at all. I simply couldn't find the filter in my diesel VRS so just changed oil instead :-) ( between official change intervals)
  2. I started to get back pain several years ago when driving longer distances (in a mondeo at the time) I found I needed more lumbar support than typically available in most cars. The solution was cheap and simple. A small feather cushion from dunelm mill. I've been using this now for 6 years accross several cars and it completely solves the problem. The key is that a feather cushion is mouldable and can provide just the right amount of support.
  3. I had a previous model mondeo (titanium X sport) and I was looking at the new mondeos before I got the Octavia VRS. Main reason I didn't go with mondeo was because they had dropped the sporty diesel offering. The Octavia vrs has plenty of advantages over the mondeo - performance, costs etc. Overall I would say the ride firmness was similar in both but the mondeo was definitely quieter and more refined. The only other thing I didn't like in the Octy was the audio quality (Bolero) so would strongly advise higher level audio in Octy if that is important to you. So if refinement is top priority I would go Mondeo.
  4. Just to be clear. Skoda cannot invalidate the warranty just because it has not been serviced at a main dealer no matter what they say. There are clear EU rules preventing this. However you do need to be able to prove you have followed the full service schedule using genuine parts. If you can do this warranty must be maintained. Of course you will not get any goodwill gestures outside of warranty. As for the service log being stored online, how is this supposed to work, how do you keep track of when a service is due or when buying a second hand car how do you check the service history?
  5. Yeh I don't think those brakes look that bad, certainly should be salvageable with a few brisk stops from highish speed.
  6. I had my diesel vrs for 2500 miles and averaged 46mpg. I could easily get over 50 on a motorway run with a light right foot. A 39.4 in the diesel would likely have been 30 in the petrol. I had dsg and it worked great no issues at all, very smooth and flexible it's only really the stop start that is a pain in the DSG but that is petrol or diesel. Loads of torque 2000-4000 revs. I've just changed to a Porsche Boxster (315 Bhp) and the diesel vrs felt quicker under 4000 revs.
  7. As said, there is no wear on your clutch in this scenario, clutch is fully engaged so wearing no more than when driving up a hill. There certainly would be wear on your brakes though if using them regularly on long descents, in addition you may overheat them such that if you need to stop at the bottom you could struggle, you may even warp the disks.
  8. Indeed, the 35 means the profile height is 35% of the width, so if the width increases by 10 mm the profile will increase by 3.5 mm.
  9. Mine certainly isn't like that, in fact I can't move the trigger in the manner James says either, it's just a spring loaded trigger that you push as you move the lever and it springs back out into position, very little 'play' in mine.
  10. I've had advisories before and done another 20k, garages seem extreamly over cautious on these things. I would just take a look when you get it back, I bet they are fine with just mild pitting.
  11. I have two in the compartment under the passenger seat, couldn't get my 'large' one under the drivers seat
  12. I'm using a 64gb card, mine is just a cheap one from 7dayshop works fine. I just use 192-300k MP3 files and strangely it seems to sound better than the CD player even for the same albums, not sure what they managed to do with the cd front end but it's not great. MP3 files seem better balanced for some reason.
  13. Did you just replace the tyres yourself? Did this resolve that particular issue. Did you inform the dealer of the 'strange noise'? Is it still the same strange noise you have now or something different? I can't see how wheel bearings can affect hesitancy of the engine so I'm a bit confused.
  14. It is typically more efficient to produce light at the bluer end of the spectrum ( daylight colour temperature rather than warm ) so it's certainly possible for some bulbs to produce more lumens than others at the same wattage. E.g. You might expect a 5000K bulb at 55w to produce more lumens than a 3000K bulb at the same wattage. Whether this difference is enough to make a significant difference I don't know, and as said you could find they don't last as long, though I don't think there is any specific reason they shouldn't last as long.
  15. You can ask, but I guess it would be purely a goodwill type of guesture, it's frustrating but just like buying something in the shops and then seeing it in the sale a week later. Skoda will have done the 0 % deal to get more business in that period, they already have your business so I can't see much incentive for them.
