  1. And seriously, yes will do.
  2. My neighbour (now deceased). had an old Astra. Three tyres were just above the minimum tread and one was worn well below. Just before his MOT he replaced that with the spare (just above minimum as well) so it would pass - they don't check spares I think (or didn't used to). After the MOT, the illegal tyre went back on. How silly is that!
  3. If it were me, I would have had the brakes fixed ASAP, as I would think the braking distance of the car must increase as the efficiency of them has decreased, but my son is... .. well you can take a horse to water but can't make it drink. Anyway, surely if the garage, which also does MOTs had thought it was a safety problem they would have pushed for it being done very soon. That is what makes me think the situation isn't too bad.
  4. He eventually went to have it checked today. CV joints (as guessed by members - thanks) and uneven brake wear/contact. Joints not dangerous and brakes to be done next MOT time - May. This garage spent time checking and discussing with my son whilst he was checking it out and showing him the problems.... and didn't charge him anything. He doesn't want me to say which the 'bad' garage was in an earlier post, but this one today was recommended to him and was a Mr Clutch (Sheffield)
  5. Not in the West Midlands. Sheffield. A while back there was some squeaking round corners but he says that noise is rarer. Just clicking now. Thanks for your comment, though.
  6. Thanks all. The obvious message has been conveyed to him.
  7. Cheers. I will pass on the suggestions to him and hope it makes him do something about it.
  8. Thanks both of you for those thoughts and reinforcing my suspicions. There have also been some squeaks. Quick question. If this has like this for a long time, is it getting dangerous? I realise it is a guess.
  9. My son has had our old fabia vrs for 5 years - it is now10 years old. I have been a member of this forum for a long time but at the moment do not have a Skoda (though have had 6 various ones in the past). I would be pleased if someone would give advice: Clicking sound from near the front wheels when going slowly round corners. Had it for over a year. This is the crux - a local (non-Skoda) garage has told him it is the bushes (sorry can't be more specific) and if he wanted them doing, the parts are cheap but it would be a very long job as the engine has to come out. Is this true? He hasn't got much money and is reluctant to go and get it looked at another garage because of the cost of just looking. He does not live near me so I haven't seen them. Thanks for any advice. I did a search but as it is not specific it is difficult to know if the posts are relevant.
  10. It was a pleasure selling it to you. A long drive for you and you kept to everything you said. Cheers
  11. I have now received a deposit on the car. Thank you to all who were interested. I will PM those who were on the verge of buying. I really needed to sort out selling the car quickly and have a conclusion to it.
  12. Due to unfortunate circumstances during the last week (son's had brain haemorage and my father's died - please no sympathy needed, son's car for sale as he cannot drive. I've been a forum member for over 11 years. DETAILS: Fabia vrs Silver Year 2006 (EDIT: 55 plate) 54136 miles Full service history at Skoda main dealers – last service, Feb 2011 iPod connector fitted to stereo. An extra piece which was bought (by accident at the time) allows the iPhone 4 to work. MOT: January Tax: Just bought new tax disc which starts August 1st. If I don’t sell, of course, this will be cashed in for refund. Cambelt changed at correct time (4 yrs) Never had the rain leak problem or any problem that needed seeing to except had tracking done last November but I don’t think anything was amiss. Tyres: 2 brand new Toyo Proxes T1-r on front – perhaps done a few hundred miles at most. Rear tyres (EDIT: Continental Sport) have 4mm. Full size spare tyre. A few scuffs on rear bumper and a sratch about 6 cm near rear wheel arch. Some curbing on alloys. If there is much more I will try and look later as it’s in our garage at the moment and other cars are blocking. I will try and post some pictures when I have time but will not have time to 'tart it up', though it is very clean inside and out. Price? Fair offers that fit near guide price (?) Location: East Lincolnshire (Skegness). He has had the car for about 2.5 yrs and is not a ‘boy racer’ type. Never been modified. This is the first point of call so far to sell it. EDIT: hopefully some pictures will upload. For those who have sent me a PM, I will be out from 12-45pm to about 3 pm. As for price, I will look into it but just a fair price will do- better than a garage would offer just to take it. It originally was bought from Horton's in Lincoln then traded in by its first owner. When we bought from there we got GardX applied. I covered the sctrach with some silver paint a while back. Not the best job but was just protecting it. On the picture of the rear, it looks like there is a big scratch on the door. It isn't a scratch, just a light reflection PRICE: Looked at Parkers and WhatCar - see picture. Ok I'm not saying I will get their values so... Is about £4500 fair(?) WITH the new tax disc (starts Aug 1st cost £125)If not please PM with offers. Thanks New Price Since the last post I have been offered £3750 from a Skoda dealer without the year's tax and they know about the scratch etc - sent pictures. So this is like £3875 with the tax. I therefore think £4150 is a new fair price including the full year's tax. I've got a couple of litres of the correct oil spec. I'm giving away with it. EDIT: Some have asked for extra photos including the bumper, wheels etc. There are 3 interested (I am not just saying that - I have more important matters on my mind at the moment! and I'm not trying to start an auction - just give info.). I haven't got time to forward all the pics individually but if someone wants a close up of a couple please ask. The rear bumper isn't bad. What I thought was a scrape was actually a spray of tar specks which I've removed with polish. There are one or two nicks as shown One of the alloys is not curbed. The others have some as shown in the pictures. Some haze on the bumper is remnants of polish. The seats are good but not perhaps as bright and clean as the photos suggest!
  13. I've had no reply, so if any Admin. person is reading, would they please contact me. Thanks
  14. Cheers - will do Silly question... How do I contact Admin - can't see a link.
  15. Need to sell the Fabia vrs fairy quickly - unfortunatley my son just had a brain haemorage and can't drive it. Thought I would try the forum first. I have been a member for over 11 yrs. Thanks
  16. EDIT: Please ignore below. He has now been told after a bit of discussion that they will do the screws and seal for £60. Son's Fabia vrs in the garage at the moment (MOT + service) It's about 6/7 years old. They say intercooler pipe is leaking and it will cost £50 to reseal. Is this about right? would a new one be more cost effective? ALso, all the screw underneath (what ever that means!) need replacing - £60. A quick answer would be most welcome Thanks
  17. Thanks Benjiman - that fits in with what he was told - fortunately
  18. Sorry to bring this up again but just spoken to my son (who paid cash so there was no receipt ... VAT etc)!! Just want to check the repair man wasn't being deceitful when he said he only repaired the bush at the back which looked of poorer quality but the one at the front looked stronger and seemed OK. Are the bushes at the front and rear and are they identical to each other? Thanks
  19. I've always found the Fabia stable in the wind compared to some cars so I wouldn't be concerned
  20. Just to say thanks to all who helped answer this in such a short time.
  21. Thanks for that info. Didn't realise two would be twice one i.e. thought the labour for two would be less than twice one as some duplication would take place. :wonder: Hence thought they may be trying to get him back in a few months for the other. I will text him to let him know. My wife and have had 5 Skoda cars and his vrs was one passed on to him (for a price). All our Skodas have been very reliable whereas my VW Tiguan has had quite a few problems. Schern, was your £160 from a main Skoda dealer or non-franchised garage? Cheers
  22. Thank you for the replies. It was just one bush that the garage said was replaced. - 'the rear one' They did not replace the wishbone. Should a pair have been fitted? Would there be a problem with just replacing one of them? Would the normal cost be around £80 for a pair or one? Thanks
  23. Has my son been ripped off? Fabis vrs When he had 2 tyres fitted they said something worn like the wishbone or could be a bush. Today he took it to a 'back street garage' and they said they replaced the rear bush of the wishbone (does that make sense?) and he was charged £80 for cash with no receipt !!! What would be the normal cost (1) at a non-franchise garage and (2) a Skoda garage Thanks if you could tell me as he asked me to ask on the forum.
