  1. Being able to adjust both mirrors together is an excellent feature. It makes reversing into parking spaces, garages etc., simple and assured. The number of people who ask me how I always get my car central in the parking spaces in the works car park speaks for itself. Mind you I just tell them it's the benefit of advanced driver training.
  2. Still a nice looking car in the earlier 'airfix' undercoat pics but looks much better in the later topcoat blue finish.
  3. Did you have the radio on? If so was did you lose sound after the bang? I had a similar thing happen twice in early ownership. Switched the radio off and back on and it worked fine. I'm sure it was a feedback, bad earth, static build up or something like that but it hasn't happened in the last 8 months.
  4. I would think not. Just my opinion but I can imagine the displeasure of owners who inadvertently opened their tailgate by remote only to see it smack against a low car park roof or gave someone a hefty nudge as they passed the rear of the car.
  5. Had my Vrs estate 11 months and done 13,500 miles. Recently had first service and I haven't had a single problem. There I've tempted fate!!
  6. My Vrs has maxidot but I'm not aware of its 'thinks like a picture' ability. What does this function provide?
  7. My Vrs Estate has just rolled onto 12k and the front Conti's (18") need replacing.:( Looking at a variety of threads I seem to be very much on the low side but can I be specific and ask other Vrs owners with 18's to advise me on what sort of tyre life they're getting.
  8. No problem with mine but as others have said more options than just intermittent wipe would be welcomed. Don't suppose anyone has come across a method to override the intermittent when required?
  9. Undoubtedly this thread was just an attempt at wind-up. Anyone with experience of similar Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda vehicles will know that they are truly comparable. Apart from price which is where the snob value exceeds real value.
  10. Be careful of high-ish kerbs and parking head on. Found two locations recently where the front spoiler just grazed the kerb.
  11. The Vrs petrol is a totally different comparison. It is demonstrably quicker than the diesel model and produces large amounts of it's torque from 1700 rpm or so. If you're towing or wanting to slog fom 30 mph in sixth gear then go diesel, if you want performance then it's petrol as far as the Vrs in concerned.
  12. Beaten again but it was a classic! More seriously I haven't had this problem and I hope it stays that way. Seems likely that it's an unintentional activation from your remote although I did have a Citroen XM that used to unlock itself. However the window down activation on the octy requires a definite hold down on the button not an odd mis-press.
  13. Just goes to show that different tests (different drivers/weather/cars) will prodice a variety of figures. I had a Focus ST on trial for a week before choosing the Vrs. The ST was ultimately quicker and it would out handle the Vrs at the extreme but in everyday use not sufficiiently so to make greater progress. Also the fuel consumption when driven hard was only 21-22mpg. Now the only thing I really would like from the ST is the Recarro seats, they were much better than the Vrs.
  14. Strange, as far as I can see the performance figures on test are virtually identical. It could be that the V50 just gave the impression of being faster. Certainly there are still times when I'm surprised at how quickly the traffic behind seems to get very far behind and yet I don't feel that I'm going quickly.
  15. Conti's on 18's. 8500 miles and looking well worn. I'll be surprised if I get another 2 to 3k. I wish I knew how you get 15 or 17k. :(
  16. Quote: It was a 80 or so mile journey mixture of A and B roads as well a motorway and not especially hanging around. It's not uncomon to get high thirties on a journey. 8000 miles and average is 29 mpg. I'm beginning to think my wife may be right, I drive too fast. 'No be sensible it's not loosened up yet, you'll get more as the mileage increases.' Oh well now I'll have to carry on driving like I have been to see if that proves to be true. (Excuse my late post gents but I can now print the above, minus this comment. as proof of what I have been telling my dear lady)
  17. Think yourself lucky with just two services in 38k miles. According to the car I'm heading for the first service at 13k miles so on that basis I will have three services to your two.:(
  18. As my wife uses it to keep her odds and sods in, I think Jumbo's box is quite appropriate!!
  19. Generally more grip than you'll require other than for a track day. Having had a Focus ST2 for a week I can offer a comparison. Ultimately the Focus is better balanced, the VRS is a little more nose heavy but for road use it's not worth the call. On the 'tight winders' where the ST is a bit quicker you really don't want to be because it's too fast for the distance you can see, assuming that there is an agreement that you should be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. If you don't use that principle go for somehing with more grip but please don't drive behind me.
  20. Really this depends upon how much driving you do in the dark and I mean dark. I do use roads that are essentially unlit but not often enough in the dark to make the extra cost justifiable. You just have to do your own evaluation. Plus there are some pretty trick bulbs on the market now that whilst legal are a big improvement upon standard and cost a lot less than xenons.
  21. Stu - what 'sort' of places do you use then, could be useful to know for future reference.
  22. You go away for a couple of days and a million posts later.......... Back to my comment on tyre noise, no I haven't tried 17's but I did say it may be a Conti problem and I also said it was really just a niggle. Having driven a liittle while today with windows down I still think they're noisy I wouldn't fancy a drop top version if that was what you were hearing all the time. But it is a minor niggle, I'll try different boots when they need replacing, but I still love the car. As the guy in the Z4 found out today you can pay for a badge but it doesn't make it go any better.
  23. I have had my Race Blue Estate vRS since Febuary 07, now on around 4,500 miles. I love the car, fast enough for most circumstances (there's always a situation when you would like a bit more even when I'm on my much faster bike), comfortable and loads of carrying capacity. The only niggle I have is road noise, not all the time but it may be the Conti's and as they're on the 18's the profile won't help. Having said that it isn't really an issue just as I say a niggle.
