  1. Mine came without a manual too. Popped into the dealer to see if they'd got any spare and the director told them to take one out of another one and give it to me :-)
  2. I think the recent change to the grille / headlamps freshens the look up a bit (just as the midlife facelift to the Mk1 did). Still not quite as "classic", or "elegant" (or indeed "ambiente") a look as the Mk1, though. Might consider one next time (in however many years time that is), especially as the supermini-estate sector isn't the most crowded. Not such a no-brainer as buying my Mk1 was, though.
  3. I've always thought it a little daft that it's not possible to turn JUST the rear fogs on, but it IS possible to turn just the front fogs on.
  4. Hi all On Wednesday I locked driver side door mirrors with another car whilst squeezing past a van. Not enough room. Other driver's right of way, my error, no complaint. The other driver's mirror was undamaged and not wanting the hassle of dealing with insurance he just decided to leave it at that rather than swap details etc My mirror basically destroyed. It was body coloured, electric and heated. A couple of questions: 1) Is it likely to cost more to get it replaced myself or to go through insurance? I had a claim for a skid on the ice in January (which was my first ever in several years) so my no claims bonus will be pretty much wiped out by making a second claim. About how much would I be looking at if I went directly? 2) If I choose not to make a claim am I obliged to inform the insurance company and would the repair centre do so if I didn't? If I informed the insurance company, but did not claim would this have a similar impact on my premium to that of making a claim? I don't believe the other driver is likely to change his mind (and didn't appear to be scrutinising my vehicle's details), but could I get into trouble for non-disclosure if he does? 3) Is it legal to drive my car (at least to the repair centre - I don't intend using it for usual business until it's sorted). Cheers
  5. The owner's manual advises switching on except in a few specified instances. Would you agree, or is it just for situations where you might anticipate grip difficulties? Any impact on mpg? Thanks
  6. Red 1.9 TDi ambiente estate arrives next week:-). My old Felicia, meanwhile, retires hurt (hit in the rear, written off) on 113.8k.
  7. Might be getting a Fabia, poss estate (see threads passim). Quick question, do the roof rails fitted to the estate with Elegance trim compromise the aerodynamics and hence performance economy? (Obviously they would when being used, question is whether they do when not being used.) Ta
  8. Weighing up petrol v diesel for my next car and probably going diesel for the 1st time (esp if I go for a Fabia). Slight concern over diesel price hikes or even shortages over the next few years as increased diesel demand relative to petrol is not met by production (refining capacity constraints and the nature of crude oil and simple supply vs demand). Anyone have any thoughts on whether this is likely to be a major issue for UK drivers in the next 5 years or so (the length of time I'd budget to keep this car). This is not meant to be a thread about absolute prices, taxation etc. btw
  9. Thanks, will let you know what I get.
  10. Was considering a Fabia estate (probably a 1.9 tdi if budget stretches) as reluctantly concluded hatch might be a bit small luggage-wise (need at least as much space as in my venerable Felicia hatch). Does the estate involve noticeable or significant compromise on performance / economy vv the hatch? Alternatively, feel free to persuade me the hatch is roomy enough
  11. Is it simple to fit a new stereo to a Fabia originally fitted with a radio/cassette unit?
  12. Apologies if either or both of these appeared on previous threads.... Currently have a Felicia and looking to get a Fabia as next model. Read usual reviews and ruled out 2.0 petrol and old 8v. Usage pattern makes petrol / diesel equation not 100% obvious either way 2 qs: 1) Real world mpg will never match published figures, but any anecdotal evidence that some come closer than others (in order to better compare). 2) Heard via another VAG forum about timing chain slippage on 1.2 engines. Has this been a problem with 1.2 Fabias? Has there been a fix or ar later models just as likely to suffer? Thanks
  13. Autotrader - Skoda Felicia Hatchback 5-Dr 2.8 VR6 200 BHP Scary........
  14. I'd say £1,995 was optimistic at 13k, let alone 130k! Auto Trader UK - SKODA Felicia 1.3 Popular
  15. Check out the diesel at £675, silver with 139k, described as "very ecumenical and reliable". Would suit minister of any denomination.
  16. Hello My Felicia 1.6 is smelling of petrol (inside and out). Guess it's not good, and that there might be a leak somewhere. Anything it's likely to be (so can point garage in right direction). Should I just take to garage or is it a bit more complicated?
  17. I'm thinking of getting one of these in the near future. I understand that this is available in 75hp and 100hp forms. Which is most common? Does the trim level give a clue (e.g. more likely to be 75 if Comfort, more likely to be 100 if Elegance)?
  18. I have a T reg Felicia 1.6 SLXi. Lost one key, so ordered a replacement (not wishing to be left bereft should I lose another). Garage received key then advised that they couldn't programme without 4 digit code, no longer on the database since Skoda UK changed the codes, couldn't find in documentation, rang garage that first sold the car, no longer a dealer. So I may be able to find somebody to decode and make me another set, but then again I might not. Timpsons "may or may not be able to help; they'll have to see the key in their hand". Does anyone know where the immobilser codes could be found? If I lose the one remaining key, what can I do (or am I forced to get the car towed away and scrapped if there is no call out in my postcode?). Does this feel a little shoddy to you? OK, it's a few years since they stopped building Felicias, and I didn't pay much for either of them, but I was considering getting a Fabia next and what if they remove Mk1 Octavias or Mk1 Fabias from the database a couple of years down the line? For want of a nail, indeed. I have had a good relationship with the two localish Skoda dealers over the past 4 years, but something seems to have gone wrong over the past few months, whether down to the dealers or Skoda UK.
  19. Hello I'm looking at getting a 2nd hand Fabia hatchback. However (depending on how much money comes through an inheritance) my budget might only be 3-5k, so it would probably be a fairly early model. Anything in particular I should look out for, engines to avoid? In general would this be a good use for my money or would I be better advised to hang on for a few months and up the budget (currently driving a 1.6 Felicia, which I was very happy with until 3 weeks ago, but had to spend a lot on the MOT and had a fairly expensive breakdown (fuel pump failure).)
  20. Just had a fuel pump failure on my Felicia 1.6. Is this common?
  21. Sorry if this has been answered earlier, but does anyone know if the Fabia cake is based on a particular engine and trim? My local dealer has some cake for sale. Anyone tried it and is it good? (More a savoury person myself, though.)
  22. 82k - 1999/T Felicia 1.6 SLXI (was 63k when I got it one year ago) Previously 112k - 1997/P Felicia 1.3 GLI (was 47k when I got it in 2003, had it 3 years) Previously 95k 1992/J Citroen AX 1.1 TGE (was 46k when I got it in 2001, had it 21 months) Had a lot of trouble with the Citroen, including oil leaks, stalling, fluctuating idling speed and some muppet failing to fit brake pads properly, which let to the brakes failing completely (managed to stop safely with gears and handbrake). Should have got rid at the first sign of trouble. The two Felicias have been more reliable, a fair amount spend on usual wear and tear replacements, but then they were both cheaper than what I could have bought. Ought to try to wean myself off the habit of running up high mileages in older cars.
