  1. Hi all, My Octy's been running much better since I changed the fuel filter, but still not 100% right I don't think. Currently, particularly when cold, the idle seems a little erratic. Only by 100>200rpm, but noticeable between almost dropping into a stall. i don't think I'm getting full power out of the engine and fuel economy seems lower at 40mpg on a motorway run. I used to get around 49>50mpg. I've got no fault codes stored, nor any historic nor any pending codes. On the app, Torque (Lite), I can monitor various element sand I'm getting the required vacuum & boost, MAF is operating as I expect. There is a setting to monitor Throttle Position (manifold). When i enable this sensor I can see it shows 94%, constantly. Now, I have been know to drive like a hoon and imagine the throttle position may often be to the floor, but I do occasionally take my lead foot off the noisy pedal (mostly to change up a gear). Is this an indication of a faulty sensor somewhere and if so, where? So far I've changed the MAF, checked and repaired the vacuum hoses, cleaned the EGR and throttle body. Also given the car Oil Fuel and air filter changes with new fully synthetic oil. I'm thinking this is either some sensor error related to the throttle, or some kind of fuel restriction.
  2. Found my main issues was actually some air/crud in the fuel filter. Gave the car a full service, Oil air and fuel filter change, and found the fuel filter seal wasn't seated correctly, so some air might have been getting in. Filter was a very tired looking black mess. Now it's all running pretty well, but still think I could do with cleaning the Turbo, just seems rather difficult to get to it. I've got the BKC 1.9 TDi 105bhp engine. I also discovered that the metal sump guard on the 4x4 is heavier than it looks when it falls on your face. Difficult to get to this turbo from on top or underneath to reach anything without removing all kinds of stuff. Anyone got experience of this engine on an Octy and know the easiest route to get a tube into the turbo and reach the actuator?
  3. It's an old car being a 55 plate, but I do like it and enjoy tinkering. I'm just cleaning egr and turbo so it's running nicely, but then wondering if there is any recommended upgrades? A remap sounds nice, going from 105 bhp to 140. But don't know if worth spending too much on. Any other DIY tweaking/parts people have experience with?
  4. Cleaned the egr properly now, was completely stuck with crud. Car feels much better, but still will clean the turbo. So much carbon build up, I don't think the old boy I bought the car from pushed it hard enough to keep it clear. Is the turbo easiest to access from above or underneath on the bxe? I've still got the under tray and sump guard on and not had it on the ramps yet.
  5. Hi, I don't have any fault codes. Things have changed a little, started getting a lumpy idle when starting from cold. Then driving it yesterday it's become very jerky in mid range. Been out again this morning and it seems back to how it was before. I'm just off to the shops to get Mr muscle and a couple of tools, I'm hoping getting the egr valve and turbo cleaned out might help.
  6. I'm going to give this a go on my 55 Plate Octy 1.9 TDi 4x4 with the BXE engine. At low revs the engine is a little jerky, stalling a little between 1k and 1.5k rpm. Fine through the rev range, but not massively responsive, until you push it hard and at 4k it's kangarooing a fair bit. I can creep up to 100mph (not that I would, cos that would be illegal), but very slowly accelerating like I'm not getting much help from the turbo the at around 80mph+ it's a quite jerky. No engine light or fault codes on. I've got quite a bit of 4mm silicon vacuum hose left from a previous tdi repair so might replace the lines just to rule that out. I've already put in a new air filter and MAF sensor. I'll also be taking the EGR off properly and cleaning that out. I only managed to get part of it off (throttle body?) and cleaned that, as can't find all my tools to get at the pesky lower bolt on the EGR valve. Cleaned this a little with degreaser and a toothbrush with the hose off whilst on the car, giving it a few revs with the hose off to clear any debris which might have been sitting in the pipe. Anyone got other recommendations of things to try/check? have I covered most bases there?
  7. Ah, just posted a new topic as this one didn't seem to have posted and gave me an accesss error, best go delete the new one
  8. Hi all, I was on here some time ago as Nemesis201077 with a Skoda Fabia 1,9 TDi but don't seem to be able to access the account any more. I think I wanted to unsubscribe from emails and managed to get the account blocked. Anyway, I'm back as I'm the proud owner of a Skoda Octavia II 4x4 with the 1.9 TDi BXE engine. I think I got a good deal on it, It's a 55 plate with 135k on the clock, but as we now that's nothing for the TDI, not yet broken in. Good clean MoT History and service record. It is struggling a little with power, The EGR and throttle body are pretty gunked up, but I've not yet managed to get the whole EGR valve assemble off to clean as I can't find my decent hex keys to reach the bolt underneath the valve where access is terrible. I might remove the whole manifold and clean everything. I will get to that and will probably get some Mr. Muscle in the turbo. Not sure the layout of the BXE, but I'm sure when I have time I'll be able to locate the turbo and how to access it for cleaning out. The Fabia was an ATD and the Alhambra, can't remember maybe ALN/ALH? I'm also going to replace the vacuum hoses as these always seem a failure point and might have some holes in, Replacing them on the Fabia and an Alhambra I had solved my issues and I have some spare silicon hose left. If anyone has other suggestions, or suggestions for tinkering with on a 4x4 then do let me know. I'm now based near Newport in South Wales. I've got an aftermarket Vag Com lead (no cracked software though) also have a VAG Tacho cable and a Bluetooth OBD fault code reader with Torque OBD check installed on the mobile. I look forward to raiding the archives for useful info on how to repair, replace/upgrade the car. EGR blanking/delete may be something I do.
  9. Hi all, I've just bought myself a new car, well, an old car, but new to me. It's the Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi 4x4 estate. Seems like a nice clean motor with 6 gears, tow bar, plenty of knobs and dials and the ability to tow my trailer tent/caravan etc. It's done 135000 miles, but i'm quite familiar with these engines as have had a Fabia, Seat Toledo, and Alhambra with different TDI's in them. Thought I'd register on here as a resource for some of the common issues. It's a little jerky when under load, so going to take a look at the EGR and turbo vacumm hoses this weekend. Failing that it'll be Mr Muscle in the turbo and checking the MAF meter I'm based in Newport in South Wales.
