  1. Hi There. 1.8 TSI 118kw has a fairly good MPG and can be fun to drive. However there are some main notorious things to be careful with: - If you have CDAA engine (from year 2009-2011), then you will have a problem with oil consumption. How bad it is depends on the style how was the car driven. Problem comes from bad design of piston rings, which has been refined later on (Second half of 2011 ??). Combination of carbonization with long oil change intervals leads to the "destruction" of piston rings and oil leak to the combustion chamber. Skoda has a "revised" set to replace these piston rings. (±1300 pounds job) As far as I know BZB engines should be fairly ok - Hydraulic tensioner has been problematic and will lead to the quite expensive destruction of the engine head. (±330 Pounds to replace chain, tensioner and stuff around) - 7DSG - This is a dry version of DSG used in VW concern. It should withstand torque up to 250nm. This box do not like stop and go traffic and can and WILL overheat, leading to the "judger" when after shifting into 2nd gear from 1st one and going in slow pace. The clutches cannot engage 100% and torque flows inadequately, thus the juddering. If you are willing to invest some money to have a problem free engine, then you can consider 1.8TSI. I am an owner of 1.8 TSI 7DSG (only missing kessy and ventilated seats) and the car has been great, but required some love from my side as well in the last 20k miles and 1 year.
  2. Hello fellow Skoda owners. Recently I had the worst kind of experience a car owner can have. Do something stupid on own car During cleaning I decided to get rid of tree saplings, bird's thingy from my twindoor hatch. Of course my wonderful idea was to used only thing at hand : Rim cleaner. Together with dishwasher aplicator. No wonder, in the end I have ruined my paint so that now it has lost glossy finish and apparent swirl marks are present. Do you know how much effort on the scale from "Do it on you own" to "Repaint the hatch" would it be to get it to almost perfect state ? Any tips or Ideas from seasoned detailers ?
  3. Hello everyone. If you experience rattle in your sunroof, it is high chance that source of this rattle would be the back difusor of sunroof. (Vertical movement displayed in video) https://youtu.be/FOBzzHTZ5SY I have searched quite a lot and found this following guide: A4 sunroof, nevertheless same principle applies also to my Superb 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrAqgXrYaow In order to fix it, you need two hands, ideally one more person to help you put out the sunroof, T25 screwdriver, pry tool. on scale from 1 to 10, 10 being extra hard to do , this is 1. Step 1: Remove the sunroof shade. Quite easy to do. Open your sunroof by 1/3. Take you pry tool ( I have used old credit card ) and insert it to the middle of shade. You can even pull it gently downwards. Notice: be careful if you have filthy hands !! If you are not very careful you can put dirt on our interior lining around the shade. Most of the you would have a see-thru glass. Mine is actually solar powercells - Independent ventilation energy source. http://imgur.com/0V65IPq Step 1.5: Check from outside how much is sunroof glass sticking out of the car body (The information is needed to align the glass at the end of the process) http://imgur.com/za596Em Step 2: Roll the shade backwards, Open Sunroof to ventilation position. [We keep it in Ventilation position during the whole process] Step 3: Now you are going to unscrew 3 screws holding the sunroof. (3 per side, 6 screws in total). These screws holds the glass on the rail frame. Also they are used as "height" adjustment of the glass. Therefore when reassembling you will need to play a little with the height to get it right. Use T25 torx screwdriver. Unfortunately I did not took a picture for this :(. Just look for T25 screws. Step 4: Remove the glass and store it somewhere safe. Store the screws. Step 5: Locate the rear difusor rail. it will be either before or behind the difusor. Mine was behind, however with a long screwdriver I was able to pull it back to me. https://youtu.be/wtrgJ4Wy1Uc Step 6: You need to position the difusor back into the rail housing. There is small clip with no physical "safety" switch. It just needs to be aligned properly. I would recommend to disconnect the difusor from sunroof frame. It is connected only by pick which starts as narrow one and grows outwards. With help of pry tool you can get it separated. Step 7: While we are at it, give the rails a little lube . Mine were 6 years old and lube look like someone jerked on it 6 years ago. All stiff. Step 8: Connect the difusor back with Sunroof frame. Step 9: [Highly optional] Check functionality. !!!! Be careful !!!! Without the glass on the frame, it tends to jump out from desired rail path. That would cause the sunroof to fully open. - Protection against sticking fingers while closing . Also In the front of the rail, there are white lubed "covers" for leading pieces of frame that holds it in the rail. They tend to come out. So just align them back again. Step 10: Revert the process. After fitting the glass, align the height to the original position. Since them I am running rattle-free.
  4. Hello my fellow skoda owners. I have experienced rattle while having roof window open for ventilation. After detailed inspection I have found out, that right side of the supporting structure of the windows is "jumping" on the right window rail/slider. Left side is rock solid. Video for more detailed explanation. https://youtu.be/FOBzzHTZ5SY Do you have any experience with this ? I am afraid that in oder to fix this I would need to put down the roof lining from interior :(
  5. I am getting 36 MPG (measured by refilling, not maxidot) on average over last 10k miles 80% highway (85 mph) 20% city driving
  6. Hello there. As these are my observations over one week: - Conditions under which vibrations occur: Warmed up car (1+ hour driving) Pulling out from low speed, 2nd gear, low RPMs In this state It seems like also something is loose in the transmission (Driving around 2nd gear) - To me this seems like totally design flaw, as obviously the DSG cannot handle normal load in summer temperatures (After cold start everything is fine) - I am already booked to see my dealer, I am wondering what he will say. - In the service history I have found that at at DSG service, based on the history they have filled it with about 16l of oil To me it seems like the guy entering the data into the system didn't know that 7DSG is dry clutch and entered the "prescribed" materials for 6DSG.
  7. Thanks a lot for the correction !!!. Knowing that Europe is out of this oil change really bothers me ... Will be hard to get it done then. In the meantime, today my DSG is working as before, no vibration or anything. Even after 15 kilometers. On the other hand Ambient temperature was just 15 degrees instead of 24 ... I need to wait for hot days to see if it decides to vibrate again
  8. To me it seems like the Trany can't handle high ambient temperatures in combination with workload. Since it is dry type and clutches are not sitting in the oil. Also I need to double check with Skoda if I have the "updated" oil type in DSG. I think it should be switched from mineral to synthetic. It is little off topic, but I am kinda skeptic with services from dealers. Yesterday I have found out that After Engine oil change, they did not top it off !!!. On the paper they wrote that they have used 4.6 l of Oil, however the oil dipstick is at minimum level :peek:
  9. I feel like I have called this upon myself when reading thru these topics Yesterday I have experienced for the first time vibrations in 2nd gear. It was a shocker for me, as I had problem free 12 000 km since purchase. Situation ? City driving, going from 5-10 km per hour and slowly accelerating. It does it only when heated up and in D mode, in range of 1200-1800 RPM. S mode/Manual is problem free. Called the dealer already for diagnostics, gonna hit it sometimes next week. I am gonna try first the software update, then I guess if it won't help then new clutch pack. :( 82K km on the clock, filter and DSG oil changed at 60K mark.
  10. Finally me and my friend had some time to take some fotos of my S2, enjoy
  11. Hello everyone. As promised, here is a video of the noise mentioned above. Sorry for the quality, I have used only phone. I can record also cold start up if that would help to solve this mystery https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Qmgv9JOvjE&feature=youtu.be The noise is present on the start up only when engine is warmed up (80 Degrees of Celsius and up). Started with the beginning of Spring (During winter I had no such problem) In the meantime I have changed Engine Oil and all filters ... I do not have any water leaks. If somebody recognizes the source of this weird sound I would be very thankful
  12. Hi there !. I hope you will get you DSG sorted out soon with reasonable price . Regarding the RPM revving, is the movement of RPM needle considered unusual, when on cruise control under full load (4 people + things) and the needle moves just a tiny bit ? How tiny ? well if the needle is right on the top of markings, you can see it "shivers". Response of the gas feels normal ... it is just strange thing I have noticed.
  13. Hello there ! I would like to share my experience with buying/running my first car, Skoda Superb II 1.8 TSI 7-DSG. I was thinking of buying my own car for quite some time, circa 2 years. Mainly was I a dreamer. My car of choice was BMW e60, but over two year not a single one was good enough for me, or for my kind of budget I could get only ones with really high mileage. I really liked the big interior space, robust drive and elegance. However I started to look after something else, because I realized that maybe I am too picky and I should maybe go for brand new car or slightly used. 2 weeks before the Xmax I saw a deal on official VW reseller site. Superb II , 2010 Plate, 43000 miles, petrol, automatic trany, beige leather. The description of equipment was not so generous on the site, but it looked interesting. However it was 300 miles way. On 29th of December I went to buy Mazda3 Skyactive, however when the guy told me that it would arrive only in March, the deal was off. Having nothing to do on that day, I told myself: "Whatever, lets check out the Superb". I gave a call to the dealership to make sure the car is still there and fully charged and went on the trip. I was never driving an SII, so my first impression in the interior was simply said "WoW". I liked the car on the first glimpse. After I gave it a test drive and checked the service history I decided to went for it. So 300 miles back to get on the same day. And on the next one 300 there and 300 back. So lets have some figures Two days, two crazy guys. 1200 miles, 1 new car, 10 000 bills out of my pocket. So here are the specs: SII Elegance, 2010 Plate, 43000 miles on the clock. 1.8 TSI 118kw CDAA, 7-DSG dry type (250nm torque limitation) Spec: Driver memory seat, heated/auto dimming side mirrors (+ rear mirror), bi-xenon lights with cornering function, navigation system, audiosystem, roof window with solar panel, parking assist, parking sensors, light/rain sensor, heated seats front/back, two zone climate Specs missing : Keyless system, ventilated seats, video, heated front window .. you tell me Things I have done with my car: - New Battery - Oil service - Filters (except DSG, was done recently before purchase) - Spark plugs Things I am planning to do: - some minor trims to give it a better "sporty" look .. I was thinking about some OEM boot spoiler, front bumper lip etc.... - change Halogen lights to LED ... not rushing anything - exterior detailing (wax, sealant) And now some pictures: (More will come later after I can shoot some)
  14. Ahhh, slick name it is then. Thanks for clarification. I will try to located the weird sound source.
  15. I just checked the service history and only coolant pump with its running belt has been changed at 31000 miles. So the water pump and its belt have not been changed yet.
  16. Hello everyone. As the winter went off its way and temperature is rising, my beloved car has started to make strange noises which it was not making during winter (I am owner of the car since January, so this is my first summer) 1st) After turning engine off, strange noise is coming from the direction of front wheels - It sounds like a hydraulic boot opening, kinda reminds of how Air suspension is trying to keep the steady altitude. Which is nonrealistic for SII - repeats about 15 times in 5 second intervals, then go off 2nd) When Engine is heated (80 - 100 degrees of Cel. Oil temperature) start up is not so clean - This one would probably needs sound recording ... will add later - To me it sounds like sound of steel running against the steel, without the oil (which is not good) - Checked the oil, sits steady in the middle of the scale I am running with SII 1.8TSI , 50 000 miles Has anybody noticed these strange noises before ? If so, I would be happy if you point me in the right direction, whether it is normal or I should worry. Thanks a lot !
  17. Hi There. Something similar (or not) happened to me couple weeks ago. When I was starting up the car early in the morning, it was not a smooth start up and the dashboard flickered. When I was trying to start up later that day, Maxidot was telling me to set the Transmission to P position (even thou it was there) ... Then all kinds of faults started to jump out. Cornering lights, TMPS, ABS etc ... But columbus was working all right Changing the battery solved everything (Called skoda assistance, they jumpstarted my car and It was okay for the next day, however I have changed the bat for better feeling). After the change I could notice a LOT better starts. If you connect a healthy battery to the car, it should help you diagnose if it is really because of battery. If you decide to change battery, the steering assistant and also TMPS will stay on the dashboard ... you have to drive aprox 100m to make them go away. Also do not forget about folded rear mirrors. I have noticed they stay folded and reset on second Engine startup.
  18. Hello fellow Skoda owners. I am an owner of Superb 2 1.8 TSI with 7-DSG. I am very happy with overall performance but I am little worried how is the tranny is setuped. While driving around town in D mode at 50-55 kph 5th (1500 rpm) or even 6th (1300 rpm) is engaged. I do not think these low rpm are healthy for the car. One workaround is to go to manual mode and tell the tranny to have 4th gear in (2000 rpm). Another option is to be in S mode. But in S it stays in 3rd and wont go higher during town driving. if I want to have 4th while in S, i have to turn cruise mode on(during cruise it goes to min consumption setting regardless of S mode), it switches to 4th , then disable cruise and it stays in 4th while maintaining speed. Is there any better way to tell the Tranny to be in 4th instead of 5th ?
