Been having the above flash up at random in the dash. Flashes on, “bongs” and then goes off. Will go a week without doing it, then will drive me insane by bonging every 10 seconds on a 20 minute drive. Took it to dealers today to check the codes and they have confirmed it is a fault with the hands/presence sensor in the steering wheel. As it is a sealed unit, they have now ordered me a whole new wheel! I had read over on the Golf forums that Mk8 owners had this issue as well and it took them a lot of messing around with the dealer to come to the same conclusion and fix, so glad they called it out first thing! I am waiting for the dealer to come back to me, but in the mean time I thought someone here might know! My 2021 Superb Scout (NZ market) has no SD or DVD etc - just a blanking panel in the glove box. The manuals all seem to refer to the old SD method of update for the maps. I tried to use a USB A memory stick plugged into the port in the centre console but the system didn’t seem to recognise it - I haven’t tried using the USB-C port yet… Any ideas?

I learned my lesson with the 19" EXTREMES (ugh) on my Octavia VRS. They ride hard and loud, cost more and are more prone to curbing on the lower profile. My new Superb Scout had the 19" as standard but I have got the dealer to swap them for the 18" Braga Anthracite - suits the NZ roads so much better and whilst they don't look *quite* as good in the arches as 19"s, I will suffer that as they are superior in every other way! (IMHO of course...)

Couple hundred bucks for registration and warrant is all. My one belonged to the “Brand Ambassador” as a demo car and has 6500km on the clock. I got it in this fully loaded spec for NZ$73k which is GB38k, so not sure how that compares? The new list price with the extras was NZ$83k The Scout has a *very* slight lift, some additional under-body protection and an “off road” mode in the drive select which is good for NZ roads. It also has the 7 speed wet-clutch DSG so I think is faster 0-60 than the equivalent year sportline which has the older 6 speed here.

After just under 6 years I am trading in my trusty Octavia Wagon vRS mk3 for a new (well, ex-demo) 2021 Superb Scout Wagon. I really enjoyed my Octavia overall and whilst I had a few technical niggles, it never once left me in the lurch and my dealer experience here in Auckland was very positive, so I am staying on board the Skoda train for another lap. My new car is the 2021 200kw spec (lost a few hp due to the ppf!) with 7 speed DSG & AWD and is well kitted in Brilliant Silver with Matrix LED, Columbus 9”, Canton, heated front, back and steering wheel, digital dash, park assist etc. Looking forward to collecting next week and saying farewell to the Octy!

Thanks all - sounds promising from that aspect then! I do have the 19” currently as well which I wouldn’t bother with again. That said, I am thinking now of bumping up to a 206kw Superb…or maybe even stretching to a Cupra Leon Sportstourer. Hmmm….

So my 2016 vRS is coming up for replacement. I would consider the MkIV as it is better equipped, better looking, slightly faster etc than my existing car, but the biggest issue I have with mine is the roadnoise on coarse-chip road, of which there is an abundance here in NZ. Does the newer model make any significant strides forward here against the Mk3?

Specs all seem pretty speculative rather than being based on new information from Skoda? 0-60 time seems pretty ambitious from their estimated specs for a FWD as well when compared to the current model! Google Translate: "The new Skoda Octavia will certainly be available on petrol. The car should have a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo with around 260-280 hp and a maximum torque of about 380 Nm. The maximum speed will be 250 km / h and the sprint from 0 to 100 will be burned in about 5.5 seconds . This version will be equipped with front-wheel drive combined with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission."

I had mine mounted on the inside right flank of the glovebox - works a charm

Over the last few days I have noticed some noise under light to mid braking up to about 60kph. It is a very light scraping noise - more like a "hiss" than a squeak. Braking performance doesn't seem impaired at all, it goes away (or perhaps I just can't hear it!) at higher speeds and if I do a full hard emergency stop, it seems to go away for a short period. Is this signs that pads/rotors need replacing? I thought the 2016 vRS had sensors which told me when this needed doing? The car has done just under 50,000kms and is running the original pads and rotors - is this a reasonable lifespan? Could it just be some crud stuck in a pad? I can't see anything obvious in or around the brake gear...

Also worth considering: I had an issue recently where everytime the start-stop "started", the MFD would switch views as if I had moved the roller with my finger. This went on for a week before two cells in my battery utterly failed! Once I replaced the battery, all was back to normal. Would be worth getting a full battery test - each cell in detail!

Could it be something in the travel of the suspension making a noise/scrape, rather than something scraping on the hump or wheels? If you push down on the front/rear when the car is still, can you hear or feel it?

Does this one push/drop in, or do you need to remove the bolt?

So we have agreement for a goodwill replacement. Car booked in for next Friday to do that along with the "Leave in P" gear-switch issue. Giltrap Skoda in Auckland continue to be a good dealer for me.

FWIW Giltrap Skoda in Auckland have confirmed they will be fixing this for me gratis. 2016 vRS Petrol Wagon - just coming up to 6 months out of warranty. They have also agreed to replace the creaking front bushes/mounts as well.

The inconsistency here is infuriating! I had no problem in NZ getting my dealer to agree/arrange a free repair for this very issue - car is 6 months out of warranty as well. Weird...

So I have checked through previous threads and am relatively convinced that I need an insert to mitigate the awful wheel-hop in the wet or other lower traction situations. Why? Any of you with the plastic inserts had any issue with them melting/welding themselves to the mount? Anyone had any knock-on issues with wear/tear/faults attributable to the insert? So I took it in and they did a thorough investigation...they have concluded that the steering is all good and the issue is the suspension top mounts... They are applying for Good Will resolution from Skoda NZ and hopefully I will hear back this week. *shrug*

I have just given up worrying about the symphony of rattles and buzzes TBH. If you are going to own an Octavia and not go mildly insane obsessing over the various noises, you need to adapt and learn to tune it all out or turn the music up louder. Never going to get them all, you will always find new ones and the old ones will always find a way to come back stronger than ever! *shrug*

Yeah this definitely sounds like my issue. Bugger. Looks like I will need to take it in and hope given that I reported it before the warranty expired that they will extend some goodwill and sort it if it is indeed the steering rack!
