  1. Not sure if this is the best place for this query but I will give it a go. I have a Karoq Edition 4wd auto that I am leasing at the moment and I am more than happy with the car. I did the deal on the basis of 15,000 miles per annum which was needed mainly for my daily commute but, due to Covid and my employer changing work practises long term, it looks like my annual mileage will be a fraction of that figure (more than likely nearer 5K). Our work pattern, even after Covid, will be working from home as the default with probably a day in the office so cuts my commuting by 4/5ths. Part of me is looking at the car and thinking that I might be better going through with a complete change of vehicle - I am tempted to buy a camper/day van as that would suit my lifestyle better and would be more affordable given the reduced work mileage. It was not an option with relatively high mileage but on low mileage it becomes increasingly more viable. I know I can contact Skoda finance and vary the agreed mileage (which will reduce the monthly payment by quite a lot) but I am not sure how things go about early returns due to change of circumstance ( I am not in any form of financial hardship so no option to terminate for that reason). There is no information available online about it on the Skoda Finance site.
  2. If you think of the potential bad publicity of a company screweing someone over by strict adherence to T&C after these unprecedented events, I don't think they would want that.
  3. At which point I think the sensor would report resistance to opening in a similar way to if someone was standing there and stop the operation (hopefully prior to any damage being done). Personally, if you are loading the bikes externally, I would either have a towbar mounted rack (Thule for example) or a roof rack. I would not be happy with loading the tailgate with a rack and then having the possible chance of motor damage.
  4. I benefited from a similar error a number of years ago with my Octavia L&K. The customer had ordered an estate however when it arrived it was the hatchback (not 100% sure if dealer or Skoda screwup). An agreement was reached between the dealer and customer as to using the hatch while a new build was rushed through and they took delivery 6 weeks later of the estate. Dealer was desperate to get rid of the hatch so ended up selling it below cost to get it out of their stock ASAP. I would certainly apply some pressure both to dealer and Skoda as orders can be rushed through a damn sight quicker that the normal period if the will is there.
  5. Interesting to read this thread. My current car (Kodiaq Edition 1.4TSI 150PS DSG) has been getting me around 30-35mpg almost irrespective of type of travel (whether short 15-20 minute commute on A roads or longer Mway drive). I am currently trying to decide whether my next motor should be petrol or diesel - it will more than likely be a Karoq Edition 150PS DSG doing about 12-15K per year. Preference would be 4x4 which I realise limits it to diesel but might change
  6. Probably down to the winter additives in diesel.
  7. Good to know - more tempted to go this route now as it will be a hell of a lot easier for me.
  8. I will definitely look at the charges and make my decision with that in mind. @olderman1the bonnet damage is only a small nick (it has dented it slightly) so a chip repair company might be good for that but the bumper scrape is a good bit bigger (about 4 inches long and 2 inches). Then the mirror damage as well makes it a whole lot dearer as I need the mirror shell and to get it painted.
  9. As of now, around six months. I have to sort out that issue with the wing mirror along with the ding in the bonnet (right on the crease as it drops to the side) that the stone chip caused on its way to the mirror and a car park scrape on the rear bumper. Really annoyed as neither problem was my fault but I will have to fork out for the repairs. Either that or I let them repair them and bill me for them (more expensive but easier for me).
  10. Just wondering if anyone knows of a source for buying colour coded wing mirror shells - mine has a hole in it about an inch in diameter from a stone that flew up from the other side of the road. Need to get it sorted before returning it at the end of the lease. thanks in advance
  11. I had Hankook tyres on mine and the fronts lasted around 27K before they needed replaced. The rears still had about 4-5mm on them. Replacing them as soon as that seems way too soon.
  12. Japan won and fully deserved the scoreline. Scotland show once again that they are a team that are capable but totally inconsistent. They can match the best (at times) but also get shown to be lacking at other times - they were soundly beaten 27-3 by a good Ireland side and were 21 points down in a game where they knew they had to win by a clear margin of 8 points (or secure a BP without Japan getting one). This matches with their performances in the Six nations and Autumn tests. If that game didn't take too much out of them, I reckon Japan can beat anyone on the day.
  13. I found out to my cost (£40) that it appears that no locking key was supplied when I went to get my two front tyres changed on my Kodiaq after 29K. Bit late to raise it with the dealer after 2 1/2 years.
  14. +1 on the Worcestershire sauce on a cheese toastie. The addition of a thin spreading of English mustard on the toast prior to the cheese (along with the sauce splashed on top prior to grilling) ramps it up another level flavour-wise.
  15. Now take it to the next level - Gouda with Cumin - link
  16. We do a lot of boiler replacements at work and the findings seem to agree with the general notes above. Most of the boilers are pretty solid but we are currently doing Vaillant on hundreds of properties with very few call outs from them One to run away from is Ideal - we were doing them for a number of years and there were a HUGE amount of failures within the first year (all covered under warranty however). They have effectively been struck of our list of approved products. If you are getting a boiler stipulate a minimum of 7 year manufacturers warranty - some will even go as far as 10. Bearing in mind the expected life span of a boiler is between 10-15 years you can therefore get about two thirds of that period covered by the manufacturer. I suspect conditions will apply such as yearly service/ maintenance checks however.
  17. Just make sure that the joists are treated timber otherwise you will have the same situation that we had when we took the boards of deck at our new house. The previous owner had done it cheap with untreated boards. Every single joist had wet rot of varying degrees of severity - kind of explained the bounce of the deck as it had a fraction of the support it should have had. Ended up stripping the entire deck and replacing it with new treated timber joists/supports and composite deck. Love it now.
  18. Can't post about general reliability of Kodiaqs but I have not had any reliability issues with mine - touch wood
  19. It certainly is in a different place - lost and confused.
  20. Think the shop was in a blind spot?
  21. I can only speak for my experience of the Media creation tool which is that it failed multiple times despite following the instructions to the letter. According to the information they provide you SHOULD be able to use an 8gb USB to do the update without wiping anything. I tried everything from a 8GB USB, 32GB usb and 250GB usb external HDD with the same result - a failed attempt at update. The only way I could get the latest version on board was the nuclear option of clearing it and starting again.
  22. Definitely interested in the quicker route - seem to have spent an inordinate amount of time getting to Trailblazer (quite calming though). I presume you jump in, see if there is anything in the relevant "goldilocks zone" and then jump on if not without scanning every planet.
  23. Think I will play it at least until I manage to get Elite in exploration - I'm quite enjoying the peace and quite of jumping around uninhabited space. Not got a clue about all the updates though - I appear to have missed a LOT in the 6 months since i had last played.
  24. My current standings: Combat - Mostly Harmless 17% Trade - Merchant 21% Explorer - Trailblazer 78% CQC - Helpless 0% Credits - 9,683,166 Federation Neutral Rank recruit 55% Cobra MkIII
  25. Ah but remember that it would be BT openreach that installed it and BT retail that went looking for it - why the hell do you think the two parts of the business would want to communicate???
