  1. I remember first having this issue in my Octy. What you have to do is go into the audio settings and boost the signal strength (Or something similar, was a while since I changed mine) Mine was defaulted to medium, but if you up it to high you get the type of volume you would expect. I would guess this has been put in place to reduce noise from the iPod? I am no sound engineer so can't say for sure. Hope this helps!
  2. I remember reading somewhere that the Bolero isn't capable of showing such information sadly. There may be an upgrade/modification you can make but I certainly haven't been able to come across it sadly. If there is, I too would be very interested in it! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(
  3. My 2.0 TDi VRS 2010 reads 73mph speedo and 70mph on SatNav. My old '09 Fiesta was around 80mph Speedo and 70mph SatNav! Not sure if my SatNav is wrong, but I have compared to another SatNav make and that gives the same reading. But all in all, yes, it is meant to over-read
  4. Turn out the marks are on the outside. It would appear a previous owner has tried to clean the glass with a solvent which has attacked the clear plastic and left marks. Time for a trip to Motorhog or £50 for a new one on eBay! I managed to take it all off and replace it with no issues so thanks to everyone who helped!
  5. This is exactly right. Same as mine. But I am a lazy person so I want the boot to open automatically for when I arrive at my car. This is why I use the 'Unlock Boot' option. In an ideal world I would like the 'unlock boot' button to open the car as well and leave it open as not to lock my keys in there!
  6. I went out to the carpark after work to drive home on Friday. I was walking and chatting with a colleague so was slightly distracted. I popped the boot on my car (I have the spring modification, so the boot fully opens) and I put my bag down in the boot. With it being a new car my colleague took interest and asked about it and I shut the boot and the car locked as I had only used the middle key button to open the boot. Once he left I went to unlock my car and go home. However, it wasn't just my bag I had left in the boot... I had left my key in the boot and the car had locked itself. Needless to say I was rather annoyed at 7:30pm on a Friday! Luckily a family member was able to bring my spare key from my house to me, but I might not be so lucky if this ever happens again. So my question is this: Is it possible that when you unlock the boot it actually unlocks the entire car? and when you shut the boot the car stays open? I have had a look in the manual and the car set-up and I found nothing. I guess you could unlock the car with the unlock button and then press the boot release, but I was hoping there is a more elegant solution? I hope someone can help! Regards, Alex (And yes, you are allowed to laugh haha)
  7. Thanks for the links! They shall come in very useful. Might give it a shot today and see what happens!
  8. I have searched high and low about the key in or out dilemma and I can't find anything! Nobody mentions the key so I would assume that it needs to be out. A lot of people have had issues with the immobiliser after disconnecting the cluster, but 99% of these have been caused by not plugging the wires back in correctly. Still a bit hesitant due to the immobiliser however...
  9. Hello all, I recently purchased a used Octavia and while I was driving, with the sun low in the sky, I noticed severe smudging and smearing on the instrument cluster glass. After copious amounts of window cleaner the marks are still as bad as before. Because of this, it leads me to believe the marks are on the INSIDE of the glass. Is there any way of removing the glass so I can clean the inside and remove the marks? From looking at it it may be possible with a suction cup, but I don't want to start pulling and crack it all! I hope someone can show some light on this issue and may be able to advise. I have attached an image and you may be able to see the marks I am on about. Regards, Alex
  10. I went to the specialist and sadly it cannot be done. When they try and edit the VCDS data string to enable this, permission is denied and it won't change. I guess I will just have to get used to it! Thanks to everyone who helped!
  11. It is interesting to hear of this light sensor. My lights aren't automatic, but when I am in a multi-story, or even starting the car at night the dials don't come on. Maybe something to look at...
  12. Ahhh, okay. I shall enquire about VCDS and also AVCI. I would assume they have VCDS as it seems to be a pretty standard bit of kit for places like this.
  13. I am going to pop down to my local VAG specialists later who do all sorts of crazy modifications and tunes to cars. If they can't do it I don't think anyone can!
  14. In theory, yes. But I would like a more elegant solution if at all possible.
  15. Hello, I have recently purchased a Skoda Octavia VRS 2010. One of the things I have noticed about it is that the dials on the instrument cluster aren't always illuminated. It's only when I turn the side lights or dipped lights on that it illuminates. Sometimes if the sun is in the wrong position it is difficult to see the dials. I have had a look in the hand book to see if there is a setting to alter this, but that hasn't returned any results sadly. So I was wondering if there is a way, and if so, how can I do it? I shall look forward to your replies. Regards, Alex
