  1. Climate control and rear wiper work. Not sure on the changer I havent owned a CD for about 7 years On that note whats the deal with changing out the head unit? Would like Bluetooth if possible.
  2. Done 100 miles in it today. Handles much better than the fabia and feels faster too. Passenger door has a sticky lock but hear its a common problem. Im mechanically minded so should be easy enough.
  3. Hi guys thanks for the help. Ive bought a Silver 55 plate 1.8t with 144k on the clock for £1,100. Which I think is a bargin. Has had water pump and timing belt done 38k ago. FSH been serviced every 10k without fail. He has every MOT recipt and has just had fresh MOT with no advisories. Picking it up today.
  4. Hi all, Im sure this has probably been asked before but anyway... I Have recently sold my mkII Fabia VRS as am now only doing about 2-3,000 miles a year as I am no longer commuting due to a new job very close to home. So now I want something 'cheaper' that's still fun to drive. I have seen plenty of MkI VRS' for sale under £2,000. Looking at petrol, what's considered 'high mileage' for a mk1 petrol? I'm not really too concerned as I will be doing so few miles in it anyway will pretty much just be for shopping and weekend trips away... if i can get 10,000 miles out of one that should last me about 3 years.... what are the usual failures that i should be watching for? What should have been replaced and at what mileage etc? thanks in advance
  5. Yeah mate i got goodwill from skoda finally got paperwork so i could check what was actually done. I have a new base engine and just a whole load of consumables on there. Part no. For new base engine 03C100092DX I googled to find out more and could see what is actually included its 17 parts total. Was out of warrenty but only 30,000 miles and new car to me. First thing i did apon ownership was have it major serviced and health checked by my local skoda dealership then 2,000 miles later i need a new engine. That probably helped my case for goodwill. Dont see any reason why you shouldnt be offers goodwill as well seeming as your mileage similar to mine.
  6. Mine started drinking oil, then started misfiring etc ended up needing new engine was told the excessive oil cunsumption had damaged the internals of the engine. Tho not told exactly what and still waiting for paperwork (14days later)
  7. I know its a CAVE its just been replaced :p meant i dunno what number owner i am :p
  8. Thats why my music is boarderline damaging my hearing whenever i drive anywhere.
  9. Getting 35mpg on short journeys now. Havent done a long trip yet but already seems much improved. This engine work might pay for itself by the end of the year.
  10. I have the same ones as Ant...quite pricey but the black wing bars look real nice. Real easy to fit and remove too.
  11. Finally got my car back today (8 days later) got a 2 year warrenty on all parts replaced and works that have been carried out. However as they failed to give me a proper invoice u have no idea what parts have been replaced and what work has been carried out.... Phoned up to query have been informed it will all be posted to me soon along with the warrenty paperwork.
  12. Also you would probably would need to get the back end in the air a bit. I struggled getting under even with my axle stands, but i am a big guy. However there are cheaper options than axle stands... suppose you could reverse up on a couple of breeze blocks whatever you do just make sure its safe... or as safe as it can be.
  13. H&R is easy as pie to fit with a ratchet strap. You will need to bend it inwards slightly to get it to fit... do not fear it is supposed to be like that. I was very confused when mine turned up and it was a good inch off fitting between the shocks. Thought i had gone and bought the wrong one, but asked around on the FB groups and on here and everyone had the same issue. However the H&R bar is very thick and very stiff so almost impossibly difficult to bend it by hand. Luckily I had a ratchet strap laying around anyway, but u can pick them up from Halfords or amazon for under £10.
  14. I've managed 40mpg once with the brand new sparks.... usually getting 24-27mpg sometimes over 30 on longer journeys could of been down to having a knackered engine however.
  15. Well I've just spent 3 years training to be a flour miller 2 years of which was as an apprentice earning £5 p/h when money finally went up to nearly £30k a year I decided to treat myself to a nice new car as was supposed to be a job for life. Didn't foresee the owners selling the site to property developers however... Ideally would like to stay in the trade but quite a niche job market and no other mills very close by. Cant really afford to move at the moment and with the crappy fuel economy from the fab commuting would put petrol cost through the roof... but i would do any work really ...not sure may even sell the car and get a van and do courier work or something.
  16. Car is still in the garage phoned me yesterday to say will be in all weekend and possibly into middle of next week. Got a horribly slow Diesel Octavia in the mean time. Been looking at possibility of selling as frankly i need a car i can rely on day in day out and i don't think these twin-chargers are ever going to be capable of that....Wish I'd kept my A3 now or gone for the Octavia vRS which is what i wanted to start with but were slightly out of the price range and didn't want one with 80,000+ miles Icing on the cake is now being made redundant in February so cant justify to spending out anymore to get something else would have to be more or less a straight swap at a dealer would be lucky to get £6k p/x value looking at current prices... Anyone got any jobs going?
  17. Hi all my engine is currently being replaced. It is a 2011 CAVE. No warrenty around 31k miles. Major Serviced by Skoda 2 months ago and given clean bill of health. Havent been back to dealer yet only been informed of whats happening over the phone. Wasnt told exactly what haf gone wrong just that engine badly worn due to it burning oil. Wasnt told if it would definatly be a complelty new unit/ partial replacements or a refurb etc just that it will be getting a new engine. Was told cost would normally be £5,500 for the work that needs doing...but dealer had already contacted Skoda on my behalf before phoning me back. They agreed to pay for most of the work which is brining the cost to me down to £1,100. Will let you know more when I finally go down there and get to see some paperwork etc etc.
  18. The place I bought it from is now a long drive from me about 70mins with no traffic. And skoda garage is less than 2 miles away from my house. So really couldnt be doing with all that travel to have the dealership i bought it from look at it. As they are not a Skoda dealer anyway i think it would be more hassel than its worth. Havent heard from Skoda today but have been given a courtesy car free of charge which ive been told i can have as long as it takes. So frankly atm i dont really care how long it takes and im actually pretty impressed with the service ive recieved so far. Considering car is out of warrenty and all. The dealer contacted Skoda on my behalf to get goodwill for me which was all secured within 2.5 hours of me putting the car into the garage. I think my case was probably helped by the fact i put it in for major service only 2k miles ago. I'm imagining its a problem the dealer has seen before as he acted on it so quickly and I think Skoda by this point are probably fed up of arguing with twincharger owners. £1,100 is a lot of money I know, but its not all that bad for a potentially brand new/ refurbed engine Im hoping they just give me a CTHE unit rather than another CAVE with the new bits and bobs. And i will be pushing for at least 2 years warrenty on the new engine and all works being carried out. Quite nice to know if it goes wrong again they are seemingly happy to give courtesy car free of charge. Seems i am lucky in having a decent Skoda garage 2 miles from home.
  19. So is it worth phoning up skoda customer services and making a fuss? Try and get it even cheaper or ideally free? Seeming as it was given a complelty clean bill of health by skoda 2k miles ago. Or as it doesnt have full skoda service history just keep stom and take a new engine for £1,100?
  20. I bought it from a non skoda dealer about 4 months ago at about 28k miles. Put it in for major service and health check (as it had never been serviced by skoda) at 29k. Was told all is well everything came back green on health check. Then last 2 weeks been playing up so put it in. All contact been over the phone so far today but he said engines badly worn due to oil consumption will need more or less a whole new engine. Cost would normally be £5,500 hes already spoken to Skoda who agreed goodwill to bring cost to me down to £1,100. Thing im thinking is unless all the damage has been done in the last 2k miles then they didnt do a very good health check. It was still under warrenty from the place i had bought it from back then i could of taken it back and swapped it for something else of they had spotted it issues then.
  21. So after having a variety os issues with my car the last few weeks. Changed sparks etc and didnt seem to help all the while it was using lots of oil. Put into Skoda this morning hes phoned me back and said the engine has been worn from exsessive burning of oil. Hes contacted them skoda have agreed goodwill on it for me to being cost to me down from £5,500 to £1,100. Seeming as its out of warrenty this actually doesnt sound to bad to me. Thoughts?
  22. Yeah the owners manual was pretty adamant about not overfilling it Filled it in Halfords carpark, was worried about driving any further it with so little oil in it. Thought I better be safe than sorry and just filled halfway. Will be making a 30min trip to the airport tomorrow so can do those checks along the way. Yet again thanks for the great advice mate.
  23. Check oil light came on when i was 10 miles from home on a journey. Let it cool down for a bit when i got home and dipped it and the dipstick came out compleltly dry. Only otange check oil light came on. Just managed to get to halfords before it shut. Reffered to owners manual put in 0.5 litres at a time and stopped at 1.5l when it was half way up the cross hatch.
