  1. I too did use it as an excuse to mooch about the new stuff. The Kodiak is really really nice. Anyways, it was indeed a complete waste of time as it turned out to just be an excuse to talk to me about new deals. Also if I wanted to renew for a newer model I'd have to pay through the nose it seems. I honestly can say I wasn't expecting too much but the spirit of curiosity took me to investigate.
  2. I'm at the dealership and have been directed to the sales department.
  3. If that is the case they may be in for a bit of bad news. My millage has been creeping up.
  4. Would upgrading to a 245 seems like an idea if it is that. I've currently got the pre-facelift 230.
  5. For want of a better place to put this I'll it here as it refers to my car that is an Octavia. I got a letter today from Blade with "GOOD NEWS..!!" In large type at the header. They want me to call them and they are adiment it is not a circular. Now call me Mr Cynical but anything titled Good News with two exclamation marks has got to be anything but good news. Any idea what is may be? I can't call them until Friday and now I am worried. I though it might be something to offer me a new car deal but it's only been 15 month.
  6. Hi guys Just got my car in for its first service on Friday and the one thing that came up was that the front tires need replacing pretty soon. Thankfully the dealer didn't try to upsell me on tires from them, told me I'd be better off getting them online (nice one Fish Brothers Skoda!). Anyways, I just want to replace the front as money is a bit tight currently so should I be ok replacing with non-Pirellis? If so, what would be recommended? I know the Goodyear F1 Asymetrics have a great reputation here, but it would be good to get something a bit cheaper at the moment. EDIT: Just looking at Black Circles at the moment and the Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 seem comparable the the Goodyear F1s but are quieter and cheaper. I'm wandering what the catch is.
  7. I must be the only one here that likes it XD Me and my mate have a great laugh hearing it in sport mode. Also, it means I can accelerate with a great sound without sounding like a t**t with aloud exhaust... though I might consider one when the warranty expires...
  8. So I think its like connecting your phone to a laptop for internet sharing. You set up tethering and then the car will allow devices to connect in and use the shared internet connection via wifi. I've got it in mine and it seems a little pointless as most phones can be set up as wifi hotspots anyway. Just something to add to the feature list when you don't opt for the internet connectivity option I guess.
  9. Its most vexing. However a toasty butt and self-clearing windscreen is a winning combination in wintery mornings
  10. As soon as it starts turning the wheel too soon I know so I stop it and move on. Though you can tell its picked up something incorrectly as you know how far it lets you move ahead of the space, if its not far enough then its picked up something wrong. I understand they tried to make the whole thing as simple as possible to use but I would really love for it to allow me to cancel a detected space and head for the next one or offer me a selection of spaces and let me choose. Mostly to let me cancel a wrongly selected space or get the car to park in my spot at home that is right next to a bit of road next to it.
  11. From the options list, I'd say to skip the variable boot floor, most people say its garbage. If you need the flat loading space you could make one As for the heated stuff, don't skoda offer it all in a 'Winter Pack' anymore? Its pretty good though. I've come from a ford and have had frosty mornings and laughed at the peasants scraping at the ice while I just used my windscreen heater. Didn't want to lose that :P Parking sensors are a must, reverse parking camera is excellent too. I'd really want to recommend Park Assist because its ace seeing peoples reactions but it ends up being more trouble than it saves a lot of the time. It keeps thinking a black MX-5 at work is an empty space!
  12. I think I hit 42 mpg on the way back from work once, 30 mins at 60 on a dual carriageway. My 230 is mostly averaging slightly better mpg as my old 2001 1.6 focus. But Its so much bigger and quicker and much more fun to drive. When looking to buy I wanted a 2ltr turbo car. Fuel economy priority aims was no worse than the Focus.
  13. There is some kind of automatic electric breaking in the Octavia as the hill-assist is some kind of automatic breaking I think.
  14. Thats amazing, thanks ahenners. I never even looked at that. I'm not much of a globetrotter and the finance deal says I can't go too far for too long :(
  15. Near-term: interior LED conversions Phone holder upgrade Medium-term: Bonnet struts Boot nets Boot protector Boot liner Long-term/cost-prohibitive: ACC 3G Internet connection 4x4 Bigger rear breaks The internet upgrade thing was the biggest regret. I thought it would be a case of a new faceplate and software upgrade. Instead, you need a different multi-media thingy in the glovebox running at £600+ on ebay.
  16. The badges look a bit rubbish but I like the side graphics. Would be better without the vRS logo on it imho. Speaking of, does anyone know where I get get some decent graphics like that made and fitted? Also how much the dealer will laugh if I ask about the warranty?
  17. I got one of them free inspections when they took it in for some warranty work. A video was provided showing the tire tread depth with the car in the air. Mind you, it was a good chance to get a look at the sports exhaust. I think the middle muffler is a lot smaller as the main difference. Anyways, a quick update on this; the car didn't think it needed a service yet, another 1100 miles it popped up on the display this evening. I called a dealer this morning to book it in for its first service. The guy seemed surprised I was booking it in before 1 year but I told him it was sitting on 12,000+. He told me to wait for the car to indicate it needed a service before booking one. I guess I'll wait then.
  18. Hey guys So Skoda Connect was launched a few months back. Is this available as an update to the pre-facelift models do you know? I've got a Columbus system.
  19. My first car was a 2001 Focus. Heated windscreen was amazing and I was surprised they didn't come standard on modern cars. Bought the winter pack because I wasn't prepared to go backwards. My old focus had wires in the window so wires in the Octavia window wasn't an issue. Only complaint is that the Octavia heated area doesn't go as close to the sides as my old Focus did. Heated seats and mirrors are great but a heated steering wheel option would have been amazing. Ford offer them I think.
  20. As someone asked earlier, it would be very interesting and useful to know what actually happens between the modes. I've got mostly motorway-like road on my 30 min commute everyday and tend to stick to Eco. Simply down to the lower throttle response makes me less likely to gun it. But if you really stab it the car wakes up and hauls. I use Normal as a pre-sport mode when I want more responsiveness. Sport mode is for traffic-light drag racing (chopped a mk3 ST last week :D) and fun weekend drives. Being the vRS 230, the sport mode really does bring everything to bare, to does make the anti-burnout thing go crazy through gears 1-3 though. Up until this thread I didn't know non-vRS Octavias got a sport mode :P
