  1. I've had that checked, thanks. Maybe it's me. My biggest problem is the comparison with my last car, a 14 year old Camry. It's just so annoying that the ride in a new car, packed with the latest technology not available back in 2002, is so obviously inferior. I'm not the first on these forums to note older cars were better in this area. Maybe the manufacturers have a reason for the change in emphasis to a firmer ride.
  2. If it works for you, great. Hopefully there are excellent orthopedic surgeons working in your neighbourhood.
  3. Sounds good to me. Superb engineers have apparently said that without DCC the car is basically always in comfort mode. However, once you have DCC it looks as though the car decides it's own interpretation of 'comfort'. It's most noticeable at lower speeds. Drive over a speed bump with DCC and unless you reduce speed to around 2mph it's like driving with concrete wheels. Maybe for those wanting a softer suspension a car without DCC is the better option.
  4. I've now sold my Superb. The suspension was too hard for me, especially at low speeds, but I'm still wondering why this should be with Dynamic Chassis Control. Looking at the car configurator, on the less expensive models there is a 'Drive Mode Selector' at £100 and 'Dynamic Chassis Control' at £750. The info for each is: Drive Mode - Allows the driver to adapt the car’s behaviour to their preference or needs. Four driving modes are available; normal, sport, eco and individual (which allows the driver to configure customised settings). Dynamic Chassis Control - Allows the driver to adapt the chassis properties to their preference or needs. The system continuously evaluates and responds to various driving situations, adapting the damping and steering characteristics. The available modes for DCC are normal, comfort and sport. Also includes drive mode selection. Reading the above suggests that, even when you select comfort with DCC, the car will provide it's own interpretation of comfort based on various factors, which may or not be what you had in mind. But with simple Drive Mode Selector, what you select is what you get. Can anyone throw any light on the difference between the two?
  5. I guess it depends how low you have your seat. If you like your seat high to give a better view of the road the mirror position is not ideal. Just realised there is a camera on my model situated behind the mirror that facilitates smart light and lane assist. Just checked the car configurator and the L & K mirror appears 2/3" lower than on other models.
  6. Is there a mod to put the mirror somewhere other than halfway down the windscreen. Obscures the view at junctions if you're tall.
  7. A few have tried swapping and the improvement in road noise, if any, has been marginal. I also have a noisy engine. The stop/start is very noticeable and yet another poster has praised it for being so quiet he can't even tell when the engine has restarted. Another example of Skoda selling different cars to different people. As others have reported, there's also, a sort of 'boom' possibly coming from the chassis which affects my ears on occasion. Beautiful car, looks stunning. I just wish it was as quiet as others obviously are. But for me anyway I just don't enjoy driving it and I'm happy to take a small loss.
  8. I can't believe there's much difference between peoples perception of hard or soft suspension. We can all identify whether a cars ride is soft or hard. To me, if some are saying their cars ride is too soft in sport mode and others are complaining it's too hard in comfort mode, then it points to a problem with how Skoda screws the cars together at the factory, or maybe some computer glitch that produces differing results in individual cars.
  9. UK roads aren't the best. But they didn't trouble my 14 year old Camry. Very hushed.
  10. Thanks. Had over 90 'clicks' on Autotrader so far. Although I can imagine most will be very sceptical of someone selling a car privately with just 200 miles on the clock!
  11. Mine is exactly the same. Road noise and hard suspension are so disappointing I've decided to sell after 200 miles. 66 Plate L&K 2.0 TSI with an equivalent 16% discount if anyone's interested. Cappuccino Beige/beige leather trim. Have a look for it in Autotrader.
  12. No Nick, other than a test drive in a 2.0 diesel which seemed fine, but that was a very short drive. I know I'm going to have accept the tyres, should have done my homework, but the engine should definitely be quieter and the suspension less firm. Been busy lately, when I've more time I'm going to have to find a solution. Just to add, although the engine is noisy, it's still very refined. Maybe it'll quieten down over time.
  13. Hi s4lty, sorry you're still having problems. Certainly some pressure issue involved, similar to when you go up a mountain. Tyres obviously contributing to much of the noise, if only I could turn the clock back I'd never have got 18" wheels. Like you the ride is firmer than expected. One reason I bought the Superb was the Autodefuhl review which raved about the cars silence and even compared the ride to a car fitted with air suspension! Suffice to say I shall treat all future reviews with a huge dose of scepticism. Shame because the rest of the car is brilliant.
  14. Thanks. Just checked a couple of reviews suggesting they are very quiet. Which again ties in with the reviewers comments. I guess if Autodefuhl request a car to test, Skoda aren't going to give them one with noisy tyres.
  15. You mean this? http://steeringnews.com/skoda-details-2015-superbs-canton-sound-system-14565/ Supposedly reduces road noise dramatically. Media, settings, sound, canton. Can't see how it reduces road noise other than a setting to increase music volume as the car goes faster.
  16. Yes, I noticed that. It would explain why in this Autodefuhl (German) review (15.35 in) he raves about how quiet it is. At 1.28 it shows the tyres. can't quite make out the make but doesn't look like Pirelli.
  17. Just checked out a German skoda forum and they appear to have similar noise problems with the Superb. Using google translate found this guy making his own soundproofing solution. https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&sl=de&u=http://www.skodacommunity.de/threads/geraeuschdaemmung-verfeinern-noetig.109045/&usg=ALkJrhgmP46IXowSCHuYS-YuIG_10c36zA You need to use google translate if you navigate anywhere else on the forum.
  18. Thanks psycholist. Sadly, a little beyond my capabilities. I'll ask the dealer to have a look.
  19. True, German roads are better. But there again all his test drives are on German roads so if he raves about how quiet the Superb is, this would indicate a quieter car than the competition. And although our roads can be poor they're the same roads my previous 14 year old car used, which was significantly quieter.
  20. I test drove a diesel superb which didn't seem too noisy, although It wasn't the L&K so believe it only had 17" wheels. Anyway, never been keen on the diesel hum. Watched reviews on You Tube and the one from Autogefuhl on the L&K 220 petrol went into raptures about how quiet the petrol engine was. 15.35 in. In the video you can hear him talking with virtually no noise from the car, other than when he did an acceleration test. But just general driving all you can hear is his voice with total silence from the car. That's nothing like mine. Maybe the German cars have more sound insulation.
  21. Yes. 235/45 18" P7's. The 18" wheels don't help but I think it's something else other than that.
  22. Thanks psycholist. Had a look in boot but can't find any vents. When you say 'back corner' is this the bumper end of the boot?
  23. Took delivery of a 2.0 TSI L&K today and think I have the same problem. After just 30 miles my ears are hurting. Test drove a 2.0 diesel which seemed fine but after watching Autogefuhl videos where the petrol was praised for its quietness I chose that. Tried the differing suspension settings but to no avail. Maybe it's the tyres. Before the Superb owned a 14 year old Camry which had a few rattles, but on a smooth road was far quieter then the Superb. Love rest of the car but the noise is so annoying.
