  1. Hi everyone. After a little more probing. I think some of my engine mounts might have gone - hence the wonky handling (must be the engine shifting around under load) I've noticed that when I shift quickly from reverse to first, I get a clonk from the front of the car (around the pedal box area) I also get a slight clonk when changing gear up until fourth. And if I 'rock' the car on around the bite, I can get the car to produce the same noise. The gearbox seems to operate fine, apart from an occasional crunch into reverse. If I rock the engine from the front it seems to move a fair bit on the mount on the LHS of the engine bay (not gearbox side) How much movement would be correct? Which engine mounts would be the right ones for a 2007 1.9 PD 100? (There's 100s on them!) Many thanks in advance.
  2. Hello everyone. As some of you may know, I have an 07 reg 1.9 PD fabia Estate. It has Bilstein B4 shocks on it, Eibach pro-kit springs (35mm drop), H&R spacers and a new set of (refurbished) MK4 Bora Sport wheels with Sailun Atrezzo 205/45/16 tyres on them. All major suspension components have been changed as well (But the NS front wheel is running - 1.0 camber due to pothole damage..........I have been told this is within tolerance though) However, when the car is unladen (with just me driving) and the fuel is below half a tank, the handling goes to pot! (Not that I'm bombing around) Any bumps in the road and I'm almost catapulted to the moon, and the car gets dragged off course by camber in the road. Fill it with diesel and the handling is much better. Reminds me of the old Capris where you'd stick a bag of sand in the back to keep the arse in check! Any ideas? Many thanks in advance :)
  3. Wheel Name: VW Bora Le Castellet (In custom grey 2k paint) Diameter: 16 Inch ET/Offset: 42 Width: 6.5 Inch Stud Pattern: 5x100 Centre Bore: 57.1
  4. Hello again. I've whipped a couple of the bolts out, and after measuring them (you just measure the threaded part, right?) they seem to be equal length on the front and rear (35mm) would this be correct even though the spacers are different thicknesses? (I'm sure it is, just wanted to double check, as my little boy travels in the car and I don't want the wheels coming off!)
  5. Hello everyone. I am running these spacers on my Fabia estate https://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/car-parts/skoda/fabia/hr-trak-10mm-20mm-per-axle-hubcentric-wheel-spacers-boltsfabia-6y-pcd-5100-centre-bore-571-bolt-thread-14x15 https://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/car-parts/skoda/fabia/hr-trak-15mm-30mm-per-axle-hubcentric-wheel-spacers-boltsfabia-6y-pcd-5100-centre-bore-571-bolt-thread-14x15 and I was wondering if there's anywhere (ebay etc) that would stock locking 'radius bolts' (as I was told I would need this type for OEM alloys, as I have a set of Bora sport wheels I'd like to fit) that would work with spacers? Many thanks in advance
  6. Hi everyone. The starting issue has been hit and miss over the last month, until today when the car sputtered and cut out after trying to fire the car up. If it is an injector seal, is it an expensive fix? Would it need to go through a special diagnostic first? Thanks.
  7. Just found this number on the inner frame, but haven't managed to find anything about the sunroof online. Thanks again.
  8. Hello (again!) My bonnet and roof have been wiped out by stone chips and the local moggies. After seeing a VW van in black with a carbon bonnet wrap today, I'd like my black Fabia estate to get the same treatment. I've phoned around some companies near me and have been quoted up to £400! This seems a tad expensive. Does anyone know of any decent companies that'll do it for a good price in my area? Many thanks in advance
  9. http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/product/Gear_Knob_Insert_VRS_-_(Fabia_04>07)_6Y0798002 Part No. 6Y0798002 Would a new insert suffice?
  10. Thanks, matey. I'll have a look round on the mechanism etc, for a serial number, then have a nose online for a diagram
  11. Hello everyone, long time no type! I hope you are all well, my Skoda brethren. I have a problem with the sunroof cowling/cover that integrates into my headliner. Its dropped down by about 2 inches, and I can't find any screws holes or clips to remount it. I believe the sunroof was an optional extra - its made by Vermeulen Hollandia.
  12. I Hi, and sorry for the late reply. My Son has been very ill over the last two weeks...... I'm still at a loss as to what causes the squeak/groan over speed humps. At a recent service, I had all of the suspension rubbers sprayed with GT85, this nothing. It seems to be something to do with the twisting of the chassis, as I also get the noise going around corners etc. If I go one wheel on, one wheel off on a speed hump, the noise only happens on the OS wheel hitting the speed hump and not the NS wheel..... And I did try and adjust the bonnet, but made a hash of it, as it now sit proud of the NS front wing....
  13. Thanks for the help. The car seems to be much better after properly pumping up the tyres! I've put 32 psi in all of them, and the car doesn't wobble around so much under cornering etc Could low psi in the tyres thrown the tracking out, hence why the wheel is at one o'clock? (daft thought, I know)
  14. Think could Thanks everyone. The car started poorly first thing this morning, which filled me with dread but, touch wood, the starting was smoother throughout the day. It did make me think that it could have been down to the fact that it was very wet here yesterday. Do you think that some damp got into the leads etc? Which electrical parts do you think could do with a shot of WD40 etc, to drive out moisture? I did look in the owners manual and it states that you should wait for the glow plug light to go out, and to fully depress the clutch (as to not labour the starter motor) before starting the car.
  15. I'll map out in my head, as and when it happens and let you know. I just wondered as I'm in and out the car quite a bit in a short time period if that might not help.....
  16. Hiya Sep. It's normally when the car is hot. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see when it happens. Would a failing glow plug throw up a fault code? Is it an easy fix?
  17. Hi everyone. I have a quick question about my Fabia estate and its little quirks when starting it. 7 out of 10 times that I start the car, it will fire quickly and smoothly. The other 3 times it will fire quickly, but you get a jerk/hop from the engine (like it jumps on its mountings) the car always starts though. I do a lot of town driving - could it be that the car is getting 'backed up' a tad? I've checked for fault codes, and there's none present. The car had its fuel system purged and a full service a few weeks ago. The car drives well otherwise...... Is there a nack for starting a diesel (1.9 tdi pd 100), compared to a petrol car? Am I being to keen on the key, if I start the car in quick succession? Many thanks. Could it be something to do with this.... http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/73777-1-9TDI-hot-starting-problem
  18. Er, guess who? That's right, its me again. And guess what? I'm still having alignment issues with the Fabia. The car was steering beautifully for a while, after locating the problem of the camber issue on the NS front etc and the tracking was done by the garage who fitted the replacement console bush housing and ball joints to fix the problem. So, what did stupid do? That's right, whilst the snow came, I hit the NS front, not once, but twice (at low speed) on some kerbs near to my home, knocking the steering out (the wheel has to be a certain degree to the right, or the car veers to the left) I went back to the garage again who fitted the last set of parts (and who last sorted the tracking so well) The tracking was redone, and now its miles off again! Also, I have the problem back of a definite change of grip in certain direction of corners. If I'm going round a left hand bend, it sticks well - if its a right hander, then it almost feels like I'm driving on the outer edge of the tyre again, and everything just feels off and 'wobbly' Oh and the wobbling when braking has returned.... It seems that I am driving on the outer edge of the wheel on that side, as its wearing the tyre across the outer edge (only slightly, but enough to see it compared to the OS) The garage I went to last, of course, want the car in for a full stripdown on that side, to ascertain the source of the problem (which will cost a packet) as there's 'Nothing wrong with our equipment mate, so it must be the car' Will I need a four-wheel alignment done again? I can't go back to the garage who last did it, as they ripped me off a treat, and bodged repairs to my wishbones to get the camber right. Would it be better to whip off my spacers, and replace the wheels with 6.5j items (I'm running 6js at the moment) , and then run the same profile tyres etc? Is it bad that I've been to four different garages who've all screwed me over? I've lost the will to live! Thanks again for all the help and sorry for the long post....
  19. Thanks for listing all the parts for a service, Stuart. I forgot to post that my Father-in-law's best mate, who runs a little garage managed to get all the genuine parts I needed for the full service (air, fuel, pollen, quantum oil and filter) and run injector cleaner through fuel system for £120 Inc. labour.
  20. Thanks again, JW. It would be nice to find some 'VAG-family' 15 inchers, to replace my standard alloys (Sort of OEM+ I suppose) I really like the newer Mk3 alloys, but they sell 2nd hand for a fair bit.......
  21. Hmmm, I'd have to say that just doesn't look right on the Avus 2s, JWvrs25. What do you think? (would they look better in gunmetal?) here's a set colour matched to the car....
  22. Hi, back again! I've been offered a set of 15 inch VW golf (mk4) avus 2 alloys as a straight swap for mine. Has anyone run a set of these wheels on their mk1? I've had a look above for a photo of these wheels on a Fabby, but no luck. The VW part number is 1J0 601 025 Q Z31......thanks.
  23. That's a great write-up, P. I'll grab some WD40 ASAP. I've read that warmed-up (room temperature) Waxoil spray works well. Is there anywhere at the rear of the car that could need spraying, as well? On the parts replacement side of things, I've had; dampers, springs, top mounts, droplinks, wishbones, bearing and carrier and consoles bushes and carrier! Still squeaks the same as the day I bought it......
  24. Thanks, Palatinux. Sadly, I have hosed every bush I can find in silicone spray, but the car still groans and squeaks over every speed hump. It's doing my head in. The only way I can stop it is if I go two wheels off and two onto a hump. Could that point to arb bushes? (As I haven't greased them, as I can't get to them?)
  25. Hi 7600ee. I've just added soundproofing to my 1.9 tdi estate, and it has helped a fair bit....... I have also added this foam-based product to the underneath of my bonnet (and placed the original soundproofing mat over the top of it) https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F222373475182
