  1. Thanks for the info. I have the exact same tyre sizes for summer and winter and also the winter tyres are like new (used them 2 weeks in town driving). I did not notice the yellow sign in dashboard when wheel spinning maybe because it was kicking in yet. You also responded to one of my concerns .. sometimes when i floor it from standing still (even in summer) i hear that loud bang like i hit a large pothole. That was a concern for me .. because i thought it was TC but i wasn't sure because of the loud noise. So is this kind of TC with loud BANG noise normal ?
  2. The only reason i asked the original question was to know how TC works and when it supposed to kick in .. so i could notice if is there a fault in the TC system or not. So if i set the speed warning in the system for winter tyres .. should make a difference in power delivery ? i thought this was only for a warning .. not interact with car parametrs.
  3. Hi, For this car yes .. first time winter tyres. In general i have driven almost 10 years in winter with winter tyres so i have experience with them .. but not with a car with TC and so much power. I was coming from an Opel Corsa with manual transmission and 90 HP petrol car .. and there i rarely got wheel spin on let's say dry road. Maybe because of less power. These things are happening more often when on the road is a little water from air condensation and i am trying to pull off quickly to enter a busy road or something like that. On the Octavia i have 180 HP TSI and DSG and i thought that maybe it's something wrong with the traction control system, but if it's normal to have some wheel spin if the road is a little wet or have snow .. then i will try to adapt my style a little bit.
  4. Hi, I recently replaced the summer tyres with new Winter tyres. My car is new (2 months old) and everything on it is also new .. even the winter tyres. My car is 1.8 TSI with FWD. I discovered after i switched the tyres that with these winter ones .. if i push the accelerator a little harder .. let's say 30-40% the tyres loose traction and spin until i release a little the accelerator even with the default traction control ON. This never happened with the summer tyres (i know .. they have more rubber contact with the road .. but still .. i have traction control) Is there a setting somewhere to tell the car is on winter tyres or is there a problem with traction control system ?
  5. So basically is the same as Amundsen only with a larger display. So it's not really HD
  6. Hi, I searched and i searched the internet but i could not find information about Octavia's Columbus MIB2 screen resolution. I could find only for Amundsen. Does anybody know the screen resolution for Columbus MIB2 ? Thanks.
  7. Hi, I live in Bucharest (Romania) which is a very busy city with lots of traffic (i do 10 kms in about 40 minutes to work) and the consumption for this stop/go traffic is not really very representative but i will give you some figure. My car is normal FWD 1.8 TSI and it has only 3000 km on board so this may improve. In the conditions above i have like 11-12 l/100km (between 23.5 and 25.6 UK mpg) In the summer when the traffic was "normal" i was between 9 and 10 l/100km (between 31.3 and 28.2 UK mpg) My last trip outside the town was a 900km trip in the country on national roads (not highway) and i drove pretty fast for those roads and i got an average of 6.3 l/100 km (44.8 UK mpg). The only time i drove only on highway with constant speed of 140 km/h i got like 8 l/100km (35.3 UK mpg) with 4 people on board. I like to mention that it is a DSG and have 17 inch wheels and i put 95 RON petrol in it. I hope these figures will improve slightly when the car will have more miles on it
  8. Nice to know about this half down pedal. I found about this by mistake. Thanks.
  9. I was not flooring it. I just pressed more the accelerator and it was changing gears at around 3300-3700 and getting to cruising speeds quickly. So i think it's not the best way just to barely press the accelerator because it will take time to reach the cruising speed with more fuel burned for the same thing. As GainfulShrimp said .. it is a balance that need to be found by practice
  10. Hy, I just bought a brand new Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI DSG last month and it's been great so far. I did like 3000 km in this time and everything was fine. Now i observed something about how to drive to obtain better consumption and i wanted to ask for second opinion. This is mainly for town driving with lots of traffic lights with a lot of stop go driving. I always leave it D with Normal everywhere and i tried to pull away from stop gently until i reach cruising speed and then maintaining the speed. With this technique i observed the consumption was a little bit high. Some day i wanted to play a bit with the car and accelerated more violently when leaving from stop lights and then cruising at the same speed as before. Now i observed that the later technique was giving me better consumption. Is this possible ? I thought that driving off boost is more economically. Is this the advantage of the turbo compressor or just some weird coincidence ? Thank you.
  11. Thanks for your answers. I got really lucky last evening when i was a passenger of an Octavia RS that had this. It was completely unexpected, because it didn't knew the person. The story is : I got into the car and just talk to the guy and watched the road ahead talking about the car. At some point i wanted to ask about this heated window and i watched closely the window when i noticed he HAD this windscreen. The lines were not visible until that point because i was focusing on the road ahead. So you are right .. the wires are NOT visible if you pay attention to the road ahead. It was daytime and sunny so i can't pronounce on night vision with lights from ahead, or rain or fog. I'm now convinced they are not a problem in the daytime. Only thing i want to know is about the problem user "norsko" mentioned, about the grenn or blue tint after window cleaning. Is this common ? If yes how we can get rid of it ?
  12. Thank you for your replies. I was worried about this feature reading on forums about driving at night or/and on rain. Maybe it's dependent of the person. Can someone post some pictures from driving position to the windscreen and a macro of the wires on daytime to see the difference ? Thanks.
  13. Hy all, I just ordered a brand new Skoda Octavia Mk3 Style 1.8 TSI DSG and one of the optional i have put on is the HEATED WINDSCREEN. Today i found by mistake a lot of forums where people have different opinions about seeing the wires in the glass or having vision problem in the night or/and in the rain. I'm addressing to all the Mk3 owners that have this option to tell me their opinion. Are the wires visible on this Octavia model ? Is glare appearing in the night with/without rain ? I'm thinking the technology advanced so much the wires are thin enough to not be visible, but who knows. Can some owner of this type of windshield take some pictures from the driving position and a macro of the windshield ? I'm really thinking to remove the option if it's really a vision problem at night or if the wires are visible. That is why i'm mainly asking Mk3 owners .. to see if the technology evolved. Thanks.
